Socoms all about teamwork and communication, I don't think a cover system will ruin anything. It's a tactical game, a cover system will only make it more tactical.
Maybe MS was pissed about them making a timed exclusivity agreement with Sony, and decided to show everyone else what happens when you make a timed exclusivity agreement with Sony. I know Sony forces companies to add exclusive content if the game is released on their platform late, maybe MS has a more stern approach.
I'm thinking that MS only didn't require it in FFXI because they wanted a final fantasy game on their platform.. Now that they have it and now 13, they want to enforce gold membership, so they get a chunk of the pie. Considering FFXI players on 360 probably didn't buy too many other games, and didn't have gold memberships - MS sees it as a loss.
I'm sure there's a substantial amount of returning players that will pick it up from FFXI, which was very successful. The game won't flop. If the returning players will put as many months into it as FFXI is up in the air though.
I really hope the smaller file size of this game isn't due to them thinking it needed to be scaled to fit on DVDs, because of a possible 360 version.
Game sharing would be awesome for co-op games, it just really sucks everyone has to buy the game to play co op. A lot of my friends are more casual and won't buy every game so I'll never get co op. It would definitely make me buy more co-op games if it didn't require my friend to buy the game too.
I think everyone missed the point, and what Bobby was really referring to is the fact Microsoft doesn't allow for free DLC. Remember the Epic incident with Gears 1?
Good to know Sony won't be throwing in all new features as subscription only - like another company does when it adds something to live. I was a bit worried everything new would be plus only.
Games are always imperfect on an emulator. They tend to have all kinds of issues playing especially with timing/speed - not to mention the specs your PC needs to run pcsx2. And and even the time/effort it takes to get all the settings right is a chore. It's much better to have a proper team remaster the game, and add trophys, bump of the frame rate and do other enhancements an emulator won't do, and have proper testing on that game so it won't freeze up.
I'm just uncomfortable with the fact you have to be subscribed to access the 'free' stuff. Meaning after my sub runs out I'll have to renew several times over if i want to play what I've gotten.
I don't see why they can't add in like $5 worth of home stuff free to it, its not
like it would cost them anything.
From what I remember though, with zipper being tied up making MAG it was his or Sony's idea to make a 'PS2 Budget' Socom for the fans - which turned out to be Socom: Confrontation - rather than make fans wait 4-5 years on the franchise. PS2 budget ended up equating into a half-game, and half finished game 1 year after it was supposed to come out. Socom 4 is the full budget real thing, I wouldn't give up on the series just yet.
Wrong. Listen to the podcast. He approached zipper with the idea of Socom. After Socom 2, he started working on the business/PR side of things, and was less involved with the games themselves.
If you listen to the whole podcast, He's practically responsible for Socom ever even happening, and he was largely in charge of 1 and 2. He's got a lot more say in Socom 4, so we'll see how that goes. Everyone disses the guy yet, he's the guy that came up with the idea - and was responsible for the best 2 games. Just cause he was the spokesman for zipper/slant6 after socom 2 doesn't mean he really had much say in what happened with those games.
I understand the core gamers aren't the market, but how are they going to sell this thing on word of mouth if no one buys it in the first place to show casuals what it does? Nintendo had Zelda to go with wii to get it started.
they're a bunch of upgraders, I agree; I know several people at work that mentioned that they wanted to upgrade after seeing the new add on tv. The real question is are those people going to go through the trouble to sell their old system, and are people going to buy used rrod capable 360s?
I thought I heard somewhere what was left of incognito was working on something, but I also heard there's pretty much nothing left of them. I'm going to assume it's lightbox, though it would be awesome if it wasn't.
DLC takes time and effort away from a new game, would you guys all want DLC at the cost of delaying the next game from Quantic Dream a month or so?
'optimizing' the data to fit into less ram really sounds like using less detailed textures to me.. Looks like I'll have to build a top end pc soon :( I can only hope the large delay will mean they're going to make sure nothing is skimped on for the PS3 version.
