If you think removing OtherOS put a big target on Sony's forhead - which i don't understand (why wouldn't they go after MS's console since it never allowed linux of any kind and still doesn't) Arresting one of their kind would certainly cause a s***storm of hackers onto their console.

true but a proxy server is much harder for the 'average joe' to get working than putting something on their thumb drive and booting up via usb. I do suspect they'll take it away, why do you need to update via usb anyway? - I'd think the latest disks would contain the firmware you need to play them.

I don't think they'd bother with just the account, they'd just go strait to banning the console itself.

If the graphics are pretty horrible what are you comparing them to? I hope it's not Halo:Reach.. If it is you should watch the vid these guys made. I do agree they gave too high a score for Resistance 2, but I also thought they gave too high a score for Halo:Reach and it was done to please the xbox fanbase.

They do make a good point out of it, that while reach was praised for it's graphics, Resistance 2 got buried under Killzone 2 hype. Not many people are talking about Resistance 3 right now - and this time Insomniac isn't having to rush their game, they're already done with the campaign for Resistance 3, and have most of the year to tweak the hell out of it.

I already do those things for the most part you outlined at the end of your statement. Honestly I believe advertising and consumerism is pretty evil the way it conditions us to think buying whatever will give us what we're looking for in life.
I don't want this to happen in video games - and yes companies should be put on the hot seat when they try push it into our games. We need more articles like this one seriously.

I'm willing to bet they'll give KillZone 3 a 9.0 as well based off this score.

True say they put like the option for you to run your own programs from the XMB - but they had to be under 50mb.. People would just run Emulators, which would certainly piss off most of Sony's 3rd Party Publishers - so it won't happen. They tried by allowing linux, but most people saw that as a hassle having to leave xmb and there was no hardware acceleration in linux to run better emulators.

It will probably be a cat and mouse game between Sony with new firmwares and hackers finding what Sony's detecting and making their firmwares appear legit. They'll probably make it onto PSN, but many will get banned in the process. We can only hope it will be very difficult for them to get online.

5554d ago 2 agree4 disagreeView comment

I don't see why Sony won't be able to detect users without proper firmware, you connect to their servers you run their code, which will lead to bans.

The kinect never really had to be 'hacked' it was left open, calling the homebrew development 'hacks' is just a jazzy term to generate buzz. Kinect homebrew just doesn't catch your attention. I do get the impression Kinects 500mil marketing budget may have something to with some of them.

Sony probably can:
-detect and ban users with custom firmware from PSN.
-launch firmware updates more frequently required to play all the newest games.

They really should make a golf specific version of the move, as a golfer i find the thing too short, and too round; sure it tracks my swing accurately, but it doesn't feel right. I can imagine one with a golf grip, and top heavy weighting, that would be awesome.

They'd rather have Nintendo's money for not releasing a PS version.

@Arup02 no kidding to think it's actually a game that could be played with kinect controls, big loss for 360 owners.

Bigger and more players doesn't = better game. I do agree that PlayStation fans seem to be much more critical of their games, and Call of Duty may have made more progress if it had to overcome specific negative feedback, instead of generalized hate cause it's popular. I think CoD could have been a better game as an exclusive, but it wouldn't have made more money as one, and that's really what matters to most publishers.

What kinect games can you play sitting down, though? I'm interested in finding that cause I have one. I seriously want someone to answer this question. The hand mostions work better than I expected, but really - do I always gotta stand up for every game? "They're working on it," is just a cop out - they've had almost 2 years to sort that out - I'm very skeptical if it will ever happen, or maybe for just one game.

If the blind lobby can force automakers to include sound when driving electric cars, the people without the use of their limbs should be able to do something to kinect - like force them to include play for people sitting down.

I'm predicting we're soon going to get an update that disallows any kind of firmware updates via usb.

I would have to assume there were performance enhancements gained in leaving the security system as a faux - they wouldn't just screw it up for no reason. Security features do come at a cost, generating that many random numbers has to tax the system, no? Is it a fail, not really; it kept everyone thinking the system would be impossible to hack at the same time had minimal effect on system performance. Can you blame Sony for them ditching security so your system runs faster?
