SPU's are not RAM. They are processors. They accept data from the bus and process it, not hold onto it as storage place.

Finally, a statement in this thread that makes sense!

Bubbles for you!

Red's right in my opinion. For everyone going on about choice, that choice is going to go away unless Sony releases BC via full software emulation. Sony has already said that Europe will no longer have BC once the 60gb model is gone there. The 60gb is nearly gone in the US and the 80gb is a limited edition.

If you think it through to the logical conclusion, Sony's hardware revisions will become standard across the product line. There may be multiple SKU's with different hard dr...

I'll bet that you're wrong. Sony changed the PS3 to create the 40gb model to reduce manufacturing costs. Components were removed. I'm betting right now that they have stopped producing the motherboard that allows for BC and when the current stock of PS3's with BC is gone there won't be any more.

Think about it, they've already stopped making 60gb models. In North America the 80gb box says that it is a limited edition. I bet that after the holidays you see Sony go to a configura...

I guess the guy was right about one thing, the Sony fans are out in force defending the PS3. I think the holiday season is going to be the best indicator of how the PS3 is doing. So far it seems as if the PS3 is in line with what the PS2 and 360 did in terms of sales for the first year. If the curve stays the same through Christmas then the PS3 is going to be fine. If it falls behind, Sony is going to need to worry.

I think that the writer of the article was right about someth...

I can't wait for this one. Hopefully both the PS3 and 360 versions are identically good.

I hope it isn't delayed too long. I'm looking forward to this one.

I don't recommend Vista for anything. That's a dog of an OS.

Game Informer is always a month behind the web in news. There's no way they have a real review in the new issue.

I remember how much crap many of the same people who are now saying that BC is not a big deal gave to 360 owners on this issue. Why is it that? Why was it important then, but not now?

BC is one of my favorite features. I like only having to have my PS3 hooked up to play PS2 games. I'm glad I got a version with the hardware built in.

There needs to be multiple consoles to spur innovation. There are really only three current-generation console choices and two handheld choices. Why is that too many?

Nice graphics. I can't wait to find out what this game is.

Real gamers don't choose sides.

The decision to remove BC from the new PS3's is going to have the die-hard fanboys eating crow if nothing else. I remember how much crap they gave 360 owners over this topic. Now Sony has echoed what many have said all along, that BC is not as important as it used to be.

Personally, I like BC. I have purchased PS2 games since I bought my PS3 and I'm glad I was able to do it.

Do you think that eventually Sony will bring BC to this version via full emulation?

I'm glad to see this model coming to the US. I bought my 60gb PS3 when they dropped the price on it to $499 and I have not regretted the decision. I hope that Sony reconsiders the BC and finds a way to emulate everything in software, because (nearly) full BC has been a trademark of the PlayStation brand.

I think that buyers need to beware, though. By releasing this model with no BC and two USB ports, it is almost guaranteed that Sony has redesigned the motherboard in the system...

Good article.

I'm sure that unless some effort is made many PS3 games would be too big for the 360. I'm glad that I have a PS3 and I'm glad that I won't have to miss out on great games. But I can't quite make up my mind whether developers are going to make better games or not due to the storage capacity that they get with Blu-Ray. Does removing limits foster or hinder innovation?

The one thing that has made console gaming so good is that consoles have set system specs, so developers know exactly what they have to work with when creating games. I think that Sony and Microsoft flipping all of these different SKU's at customers it does lead to consumer confusion. Parents and grandparents shopping for gifts don't know what to buy because they don't understand the differences and terminology.

I'm not convinced that Bungie was driven away because Microsoft couldn't manage them. Moving from a first party studio to what essentially amounts to a second-party studio can't be anything but mutually beneficial. For all we know the deal was structured in such a way that Bungie would become an independent studio once the Halo trilogy was complete. We don't know.

What I do know if that Bungie gets out from under a restrictive corporate umbrella and Microsoft still retains the ...
