I have a PS3. A Wii, too.
Panasonic didn't actually own 3DO. Trip Hawkins tried to do something a little different than before by designing the platform and then licensing the technology to other companies. The 3DO company owned the specification and Panasonic, Goldstar and Sanyo licensed the technology and made players.
I think that the idea was to try to create the first true multimedia platform that would include games, movies and other forms of interactive entertainment. If it hadn't been so expensi...
Your post got me curious, so I went out digging. I found this:

Holy crap! I/O bandwidth of 35GB/s inbound and 40GB/s outbound, with an aggregated bandwidth of 25.6GB/s at 3.2Ghz. That's got to be bandwidth to spare.
There must have been a concentrated effort to remove your bubbles, Bladestar. I've never seen anyone's bubble count drop so fast. I'd like to think that an admin would investigate that perhaps lay down some bans if it turns out that you were ganged up on. Of course, you could have really struck a nerve, too.
Anyway, as for what you're saying, I believe that ultimately the PS3 is going to outsell the 360 in this generation because of the brand recognition of Sony and how loyal t...
By 6 years of work are you implying that the PS3 is going to set the standard for the length of this generation? Because if Microsoft releases a more powerful box in another three or four years it could put Sony at a disadvantage with their expected 10 year lifecycle. Sony had the advantage with the PS2 because they were the biggest kid on the block last time around. But expecting to be able to do that again could ultimately be a problem for them.
I think that you are going to ...
So there's a bus between memory pools that is bigger than the pools themselves? Are you sure you aren't confusing gigabit with gigabyte?
When I was in college the first CPU I learned to work with was the Intel 8088 microprocessor. By that time the processor was over 10 years old, but it was still good to program for since it was an introduction to the x86 instruction set. It had 16-bit registers with an 8-bit bus, and we learned assembler for it.
I remember how hard it was in later courses to move from the 16-bit architecture to the 32-bit architecture of the 80386, which was top of the line at that time. The I...
I'm sure that one of the biggest differences between PS3 and 360 development is tools. I think that the advantage 360 developers have is a better toolset with a better API to develop against. For the last two generations the initial development kits were tougher to work with but evolved over time.
If developers don't have a good API then they are going to have to do the extra legwork to work with the Cell architecture. But even with a good API, I'm sure that a CPU with that man...
Hopefully if there is no male-male romance people won't politicize the game. I prefer solid story-telling to having to break things up to accommodate specific themes so that people don't get their feelings hurt. I would rather creativity not suffer.
Anyone who thinks that Microsoft is going to tuck its tail between its legs and run home if the PS3 surpasses it in this generation has another thing coming. First, Microsoft doesn't enter a market to lose. Second, Microsoft knows how much money there is to be made in the entertainment market in the future. Things like Xbox and Zune are loss-leaders to establish Microsoft as an entertainment provider in the future.
This generation is just another battle in the larger war for fu...
It still surprises me that this title made the jump from PlayStation to Xbox.
I don't see a compelling reason to upgrade. The only true hardware difference was HDMI, and now all 360 consoles with have that.
The only way I think an upgrade would be justified for me is if my console were out of warranty and I wanted the extra HDD space. The hit you take on a trade doesn't make up for the difference between upgrading and buying a new 120gb HDD.
Let's be real. For the majority of Xbox 360 owners shipping the console back for a couple of weeks is no big deal as long as they don't have to pay for the shipping and repairs. It is a minor inconvenience considering just how good many of the games really are.
The whole issue with the RROD has been blown so far out of proportion that it is a huge joke now. It doesn't have anything to do with being a fanboy or any of that other garbage that gets posted here. People have made an...
It's also pretty much saying that people can't moan about free speech rights when they delete the inevitable vulgarities that the PlayStation Eye is going to allow people to create.
If the motto violates the TOS then I don't see where someone can complain about a suspension. The TOS is clear on what can happen, so it isn't like people don't know.
And from that list, how many can I buy and play today? I'm looking forward to games, but listing games that haven't been released doesn't make sense.
You have to admit that there probably isn't a company out there that has more Draconian copy protection methods than Sony. And at some point they all fall to hackers. The PS3 and it's use of HDCP over HDMI will also fall. Just a matter of time.
What games don't get cracked? Pointing out that it has happened to Halo 3 is pointless considering it has happened to practically everything before Halo 3.
Piracy of everything is rampant in these countries. Mark my words, it is just a matter of time before Blu-Ray falls victim to piracy as well.
All problems have solutions. At this point in the game it seems odd that a developer would just now be bringing these issues out. Are these problems that are being discovered as a result of optimization?
Looks to me like someone went down the line and disagreed with everyone.
