I think that a problem that is just as big is off-topic posting.
The first week? The battle for sales isn't determined in a week. The full effect of this price drop is going to be seen over the next 4 months during the holiday shopping season. At the current prices, if the PS3 still manages to sell more than the 360 this holiday season then Microsoft has something to worry about.
I think the new price puts Microsoft in a very good competitive position if they can produce and market games that appeal to a more casual audience. I hope Microsoft doesn't forget about the 20 million of us that have carried them so far. The new dashboard and talk of motion controllers makes me wonder where their heads are.
That $199 SKU isn't aimed at people who weigh the advantages of a hard drive in gaming. It is most definitely aimed at people who are buying gifts and people who occasionally play for fun. I think it is a direct shot at the Wii market, especially when combined with the new dashboard this fall.
I think it's a decent enough hack. I wouldn't want to use a full-sized keyboard with the PSP, anyway.
I saw the ad on TV yesterday. It was stupid. I think Seinfeld has lost his touch. Either that or Bill is just a humor black hole and none of the funny can escape.
No kidding.
People grasp at anything if they feel it can help make their case. People also confuse a change in rank on Amazon as an actual sales percentage increase because they don't read the fine print.
Sony only makes quality products? The original Playstation and their cheap, warping CD drives that caused FMV to skip. The PS2 and the massive DRE failures that led to a class-action lawsuit. Exploding laptop batteries. Laptops that burn people. Not being able to bring the Chotto-shot camera to North America because of risk of fire. And now increasing reports of PS3's no longer reading discs.
People need to wake up.
Interesting how within two posts people shift it toward the 360. Microsoft did better than a recall on the 360. They fixed them for free and it didn't require a court order.
You make a good point. When mom or grandma is out shopping this holiday season they aren't going to be looking at which system has the best exclusives or the ability to play HD movies. They're going to be looking at price.
They'll go to Amazon, Best Buy, Wal-Mart or Target where they won't get any high-pressure selling from a fanboy retail clerk. So many of the arguments people are giving for why one or the other will be the top seller are irrelevant. The 360 is going to have bet...
Since when are Amazon sales charts the standard for measuring the success of anything? If everyone bought from Amazon then Gamestop wouldn't be printing money like it is.
That bundle was so attractive that nobody bought it. Are you sure that attractive is the right word?
I always find it funny when people put the cost of Live in with the cost of the console as if you have to buy Xbox Live to play games. I seem to be able to play games on my 360 just fine without Live.
You know what's even funnier? I rarely go online with my PS3, even though PSN is free. And yet I'm able to play games on my PS3, too.
It's always about the games, right? Why buy a console if it doesn't have good software? That's what Sony did right with the PS and PS2.
Microsoft entered the game too late with the Xbox. The PS2 already had a substantial lead when that console was made available. Microsoft has done a good job of securing good software for the 360, and 20 million sold is a good indicator of that. While the 360 may not win this generation, they've made an impact. There's no denying that.

Japan hasn't been the center of the gaming universe for a long time.
What one person calls desperation anotger person would call normal. The 360 has been out for nearly 3 years. The price should be dropping like this. Some would say that real desperation is discontinuing models, cutting features and dropping $100 off the price within the first year to try to jump start adoption. I'm not saying that's the case, but history speaks for itself.
A $400 console is not going to sell at Wii levels. It will take more than one game to do that.
I'm with you on this one. While the console kiddies are here arguing over who is better Square Enix is going to be laughing all the way to the bank at their expense.
@gamersday08
The difference is that on the 360 you actually have a choice. If people were forced to install on the 360 like they are on the PS3 then you would have a valid point.
@barom
The PS3's load times with installs are not really faster than the 360's without installs, and it certainly isn't half the time for PS3. GTA IV and SC IV are perfect examples of that. The load times between 360 and PS3 are virtually the same, with maybe 1-2 seconds faster ...
