I hope they do something awesome with Halo 4. I was a bit disappointed by Halo 3. I'm thinking that a new developer might be just what the franchise needs. I'm hoping for a good single-player mode to go along with mindless hours of online fragging. I felt that Halo 3 came up short, but I have hopes that it can come back.

I guess I was a bit harsh. Halo 3 wasn't *that* bad, but I didn't like it. Maybe that's a better way to put it.

And I do hate to read "Xbox 720". That makes no sense to me. :)

Not to disparage the PS2, because it's held its own, but 3 of those 120 million were mine.

Sony can send me a gratuity any time they want to. ;)

The more hardware sold, the more games publishers are likely to make. I hope the numbers for all systems keep going up!

Any article that calls the next Xbox "Xbox 720" is automatically full of crap. Considering the crap that was Halo 3 it wouldn't hurt my feelings to never see another Halo game.

I disagree. That article doesn't rant. I think it pretty clearly explains what the $199 Arcade is really about. We're all fooling ourselves if we think that the Arcade is aimed at the PS3. They want the market that the Nintendo can't satisfy due to the shortages.

What makes a company a winner is if they come out profitable at the end of the generation, not whether they've sold the most hardware units. What good is it to sell more if you're losing money on them? That's why software sales are so important, because that's the gravy on top. If it weren't important then attach rate wouldn't be tracked.

Typically the profits made on hardware at the end of a generation barely offset the investment made at the beginning of the generation when the...

The $199 magic price is based on history. $199 is when the PlayStation and PS2 really took off because in the past the market research showed that parents weren't willing to pay more than $200 for something that they considered a toy.

If nothing else this generation has showed us that what we believed to be true about console gaming could easily go out of the window. Who would have thought that consoles would sell relatively well at $399, $499 and even $599? That's what crippled ...

I think that it's fair to say that the $199 model isn't really aimed at anyone who is reading this site. Parents and grandparents are who this thing is aimed at, because like the article says, when there are no Wii's this is going to be a lower-cost alternative. There are going to be lots of crumbs falling off of Nintendo's table due to their shortages, so why not capitalize on that?

To be honest I've thought of buying one of these to put on another TV in the house. Why not? It s...

The only thing Amazon represents is Amazon. How many people look at retail store ads and then go buy the thing on Amazon?

Unfortunately business is rarely about the employees. Businesses are consumed and dismantled all the time, and often when they are profitable. Most development houses, like Ensemble, are normally seen as cost centers for companies and not as profitable in and of themselves.

It sucks that people could be out of a job. This is a hard time for a lot of people.

Installs for consoles are still such a new concept. I think that's what the flap is over. It's really only an issue because to have more than 6 or 7 games installed you have to upgrade your hard drive. Which is something else console gamers have never had to do.

Doesn't bother me all that much. If I get low on space I just delete something. I don't keep my life stored on my console's hard drive.

Looks like the PS2 is evolving into a PSOne-type product. Pretty soon you'll see them in bubble-packaging with a few games for $100.

It might be worth a rental to try out the motion controls.

It would be nice for sales numbers to actually be reported before we start the vitriol, don't you think?

A monopoly? You can go to Walmart, Kmart, Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's, etc. to get your gaming fix on. How is Gamestop a monopoly?

lol @ people using Amazon.com as an overall sales benchmark. The only thing that Amazon.com rank represents is rank on Amazon.com. If it actually meant anything it would say that the 360 and PS3 are being outsold on a regular basis by a plastic steering wheel.

I find it funny that they said they have no direct line to billing. I've experienced frustration with Microsoft's billing department, too.
