I agree, fans will be shocked a little at first at how much earlier the 720 or 1080 Xbox is coming out compared to what they were expecting but once they hear the specs and the game line up at launch (new Halo, Alan Wake, new Oblivion, etc.) all will be forgiven and the pre-orders and hype will take off.

I don't think it will be Halo 4, it will be Halo Zero, a prequel covering the early days of Master Chief.

Or maybe they are shedding studios so that a merger or partnership with EA on the next console will get government approval. Just throwing ideas out there.

I don't see why MS goal of owning people's living room would stop now; I think their 3rd attempt will be "shock and awe" - don't underestimate MS and their deep pockets.

Some are in denial when they say it is impossible, I agree that it is possible. Wait for Gears 2 and Fable 2 to have their holiday 08 effect, then around April-May 09 announce the next Xbox for holiday 09 with some big hits at launch like Halo Zero, Alan Wake, etc. Reassure the troops that it will be backward compatible, that people's scores and accounts will transfer over and that the 360 will be supported for some more time.

The doom thing I believe is a viral campaign aimed at convincing developers to stop supporting the PSP and start supporting the new handheld coming from a competitor.

Most laptops generate a lot of heat, I think their approach is that for most users it's not an issue because they use their laptops normally (on table, trays, etc.). For the few that put their laptops directly on their lap while naked, they can get free repairs to make it cooler.

While I'm sure I'll get a lot of disagrees for saying so, I agree with your comment Sonarus because even though I tried all the new RPGs that came out this generation, none have match so far the kind of quality RPG we had last generation.

Ironically, this is kind of what Microsoft should have done if they wanted to enter the handheld market, that plus Halo at launch.

Pandora is using Linux so Microsoft won't be interested.

If this thing picks up and actually makes it to the stores, I might give it a try. Most of the DS games are too kiddy for me and the good PSP games are too far apart in between.

I think also that their reviews are influenced by advertisers. So like you said, their reviews can't be trusted.

Sounds almost too good to be true. There must be a catch. First potential problem, pricing?

Secondly, why only 3000 units? I guess it lacks financial backing.

Some of this reminds me a little of the Phantom gaming console that never saw the light of day.

Don't get me wrong, it sounds appealing, I'm just a little skeptic due to the red flags.

Is it just me or does the character in the story picture look like a black and white version of Marcus Fenix from Gears of War?

It's sad that a developer would do that. Pay real money for in-game money. What is next? Pay for leveling up, pay for costumes, pay for accessories, pay to customize your controls, pay to adjust the sound volume, pay to adjust the contrast, pay to see the end of the story, pay for achievement points?

Early reviews seem to indicate that it's not the best game Square-Enix ever did, so far it got 7.1/10 at IGN, a B at 1 UP, a 3/5 at GamePro.

In the end, it's all about the games (we're all gamers right?). If they release good first party games and convince enough good 3rd party developers, people will move to the new consoles. Some people might grumble but most will move on. There are a ton of people (including me) who put up with defective consoles, a console cycle is just another hurdle to keep gaming. Still ends up cheaper than upkeeping a top of the line gaming PC.

Reading the review, it sounds a bit like the reviewer was tired of playing games as a whole (rushing to meet review deadlines, not really playing for fun). Several places it says things like it's a lot of fun, undeniable joy... but in the end the score is low because it's too familiar and repetitive... You just said earlier you had fun, isn't that the point of gaming? People like that just need to step away from gaming for a while, go play any sport (like tennis, how repetitive and familiar...

I looked at the patent and it relates to determining and avoiding bad sectors while recording an optical disc. So it cannot apply to the PS3 since it is a read-only device.

That being said, they can target the Blu-ray burning factories of Sony and other companies. It kind of means that they need inside knowledge about how Sony and others burn their Blu-rays. I thought discs in factory were written blindly and then checked to throw away the bad ones. If so, this suit might only...
