As long as things are not blown out of proportion, public discussions and public protests are a good thing. It's a benefit of democracy and free speech. It helps (but it's not perfect of course) to keep public office and public companies to keep their customer's needs in mind and not grow so corrupt that they feel they can do whatever they please.
EA for exemple has improved some after a lot of negative customer feedback, Lair's developers finally (although too late) put a patc...
A new game, new IP using new game mechanics absolutely needs a demo. It also needs to be a good demo with both tutorial and gameplay sections. The one other thing this game needs to have a chance is not to launch at the same time as well known hyped sequels.
I've said it many times: Choice is good. Whether it's giving a choice of motion versus non-motion controls, or as in this case between old and new mapping; choice is always good. You can please more players, have better reviews, less backlash, etc. Not to do so is stubbornness from the developers, reminds me of Lair.
@4.5 I hear you too. There is no arguing that it was a decision made on market size ($$$) but as a gamer who really enjoyed DQVIII, I was expecting the next sequel to at least be equal or surpass it. Notice also how all the previous platform listed were... consoles which mean those games were made on top platform of their time. I was in the end just voicing my preference, it doesn't change anything, I just hope it won't take too long for DQ X to get made and localized (which it might). <...
@4.1 Thanks, at least they are not abandoning consoles
@4.2 I have a DS and a PSP and did enjoy Crisis Core. However I couldn't say with a straight face that a game like Crisis Core can compare with a full fledged console version, like FFXIII. I think it is ok to make spinoffs of major franchise on handhelds (like Daxter for the PSP, like Crisis Core which you mentioned, like Metal Gear Portable Ops, Dragon Quest Monsters, Dragon Quest Heroes, etc.) but to take the core of a ...
I'm a little disappointed that the next real sequel (not a spin off) following the excellent DQ VIII will only be on an handheld and not on a console. A portable, either the DS or PSP, just can't support the same experience as modern console games. I know gameplay might still be good but it would have been even better on a console.
It seems based on those bloggers that we have WDF Activate! Windows Defense Force btw, if it wasn't obvious to some.
I agree, my biggest gripe against some platforming Wii games and an infamous PS3\Sixaxis one (Lair at the beginning) is that there is no choice to play with a regular controller. The more choice you give, the more players you will rope in and satisfy.
I understand that some new kind of games may only be practical with new controllers but when you make a 2D scroller or 3D platforming game (that have been done on classic controllers for generations) then suddenly deciding not to o...
Gameplay looks like a mix of Heavenly Sword and God of War. Looks promising.
@5.2 Really? Didn't know that. Did you try it? Does it work well?
This will work with PS3 controllers! Could be a workaround for people asking for 2 thumbsticks. Would be nice if some developpers supported that option for all 3D games.
Thanks for posting this Sev. It looks like another winner for team ICO, now I can't wait to play this.
I can think of 50 million reasons why it won't happen...
Hardware improvements are nice but the PSP needs more new games. There just isn't enough coming out each month.
100% agree, not only does he have the same look (if he dyed his hair darker) but also his acting in Firefly is almost spot on with Drake's character.
From what I am reading, given the resolutions per bandwidth and lag issues, I think they should have aimed for the Wii market first: kids, seniors and mini-games fans. All those targets don't mind lower than optimal resolution and small lags. In fact, many of those people would welcome not having a real console. Those groups also don't put in as many gaming hours as core gamers so bandwidth caps would not be a worry either.
OnLive just need to shed that controller and replace ...
Sadly, even when articles like this come out or you talk a friend into trying a great game like that, so long after the release it only means that they will go borrow\rent the game or buy it used. Which all means that the developers\publishers do not see any increase in sales and are very unlikely to ever fund a sequel or comparable project :(
Folklore and Valkyria Chronicles are both great games that not enough people have played. Folklore starts out slow, so it takes people that can stick with a game a little while before they become interested in all that can be done; the story gets better the further you go in too. Valkyria has a mixed style of gameplay, so it takes people with an open mind; once you get used to it though it is a great game with a JRPG grade story.
I'm not saying not to get this but just be aware that Civilizations plays by turns, not real-time. Just a difference you should be aware of, it changes the gameplay quite a bit.
I agree, I think XBL and PSN is the perfect solution for some of their games. Not for all their games but their action games would fit with that audience and it would keep their development cost low, at a Wii level. Win-win for gamers and them.
