My take on the PS3 Motion Controller naming or lack thereof is that Sony didn't really want to do it. They had worked on this years ago as per the videos going around but had decided not to pursue it.

Then they got wind that MS was working on Natal for the 360. Having had to suffer from the media with comparisons when they didn't have rumble and didn't have achievements\trophies, they decided that they needed a 'motion' thingy to complete the comparison checklist.

Roper316, I feel the same way. My suggestion to you is not to trade in good games, keep them as classics to be played later with the good old two-thumbsticks controllers once most new games have jumped on the motion bandwagon.

Motion controls are great for accessibility, it allows kids and grandparents alike to pretend to play; but for fast (no lag) and precise (no misinterpretation) gaming, direct input controllers is the only way to go. Hopefully developers will understand...

I agree with the list of the above posters. I would add Prince of Persia 2 (Warrior Within, following the excellent Sands of Time, I expected more) and Final Fantasy X-2 (again, following FF X, I expected more).

Edit: actually Blaze929 already had FF X-2 :)

Edit 2: just remembered a recent one, Bionic Commando, concept was promising but the execution was poor (controls, boxed in by radiation, etc.)

To be honest I think all these 4 games, 5 games, 10 games lists are pointless. People have different tastes and expectations, nobody will ever agree on them.

When the Wii came out, a few people came out and brought up fears that if Nintendo was successful business-wise with that approach, that the other companies would follow them at the expense of the core gamers by being tempted to make just incremental HW improvement and casual games. Most people dismissed them and said it would never happened.

Well, this E3 showed those people were right after all. With both MS and Sony now diverting their attention, funds, marketing, and talent...

I have a lot of doubts about both Sony and MS motion controllers as far as benefiting non-casual games but at least in both cases it is just an optional add-on.

As long as they also keep making traditional games with the time proven 2 thumbstick controllers, then everybody wins. The casuals get more choice and the traditional players still get to play the way it makes sense for their games.

I agree it is always better to judge yourself. My recommendation to you (since I think you have a 360 and maybe a PS3 too), just rent this game if you can rather than buying it.

Definitely borrow it or rent it before buying. Personally I was disappointed and happy it was just a rental. My personal take is that if you only have a Wii, this is an ok game; if you also have either a 360 and/or PS3, there are much better shooters out there to spend your time on.

Bubble up to Kushan and Xi for the informative and civil discussion. Rare nowadays on N4G.

Reading their article, the real title should be "Ten reasons not to buy a PSPgo ... if you already have a PSP"

I agree, I think software however is the most important here. Even if it comes out a bit pricey, with a killer game it will sell. However, if it comes out cheap but all the games are shovelware, then it won't sell because people will just stay with their Wii for that kind of games.

Choice is good. Just like people have the choice to turn rumble on or off. Even if only a small portion of people use that option, it's nice to have for the minority who cares.

@ 8.2 Achievements and trophies are not optional since they get recorded whether you want to or not and are available for others to look at. If you read the article, it talks about people that feel pressured because of what their friends will think. I know some people like that so I can relate.

In a way, having an opt-out choice would be like a privacy setting. It would be real easy for Sony\MS to implement, purely optional, would only benefit some gamers while not affecting ...

I agree with this article and I know the two types of gamers, those who care and those who don't care about achievements\trophies. They should make it optional, they should just make it a profile\account setting where you can completely disable your achievement\trophies counting. That way people could choose. I think Sony\MS would be surprised at how many people would turn it off to go back to the days of just enjoying the game.

@1.13 I agree it could always be better. As prices continue to trend down and once the country comes out of this recession, I would expect the quantity per month to improve.

I just think actual sales figure are more important and indicative than a limited online poll of intent. If the sales figures year over year were to slow down at this stage of a new product introduction, then I would agree that this 'lukewarm' label might have merit but it is not currently the case.

@1.8 40 players a month, I think you're missing a few 0s

@1.7 72% increase of actual sales is a good increase, I don't consider that 'lukewarm' like the poll implied. It's a healthy growth rate for any new product.

You don't know what you are missing then. Even my wife who isn't into technology and who didn't use to care about HD now asks for the Blu-ray versions of her movies after seeing a few movies on Blu-ray followed by a regular DVD.

The first time that happened she asked me if something had gone wrong with the TV, I said "no, this movie is just a DVD since it's not out on Blu-ray yet", she was disappointed, even she can tell the difference now.

Also, info quoting NDP: "A new report by the NPD Group indicates that Blu-ray video technology has moved "further into the mainstream." Indeed, first quarter (Q1) sales of stand-alone Blu-ray players in the US increased by 72 percent..."

Good question.

Maybe Sony learned with the Eyetoy that a camera only solution didn't work for the kind of games they were aiming for, hence the camera\wand solution.

Natal seems to aim more at casual games (from what they showed so far) so their choice of technology may work for them.

In the end, both approaches have a lot of challenges. Only time will tell how their technology and application of it ends up working (not from shows but once people have i...
