It's probably a patent issue...
I agree. I used to have problems with games that required holding the R2\L2 button for extended periods of time (like racing games) but with those trigger add-ons it's never a problem anymore. After just a few gaming sessions you forget they are there. I would be hard pressed to have to go back to a controller without them.
No need to turn everything into a console war. You have to put things in perspective. He has two young little girls. Without going last-gen with a PS2, of course the Wii is the most logical choice. Now, if he had older teen boys, then it would be different.
I think it's time to ban Chinese manufacturing from any product that affects health and personal safety (food, medecine, kids toys, pet food, electronics, etc.). The truth is that they underbid by cutting corners, disregarding safety and quality measures and making undocumented material replacements. Too many US, European and Japanese companies now have outsourced all their manufacturing and are at the mercy of places like that.
This lawsuit will go nowhere. They waited all this time and their evidence is made or magazine articles?! Microsoft has become really really good at covering its tracks. They waited this long because they have no proof. Unless they get a subpoena for MS records (which are probably gone by now), they won't have any real evidence to back up this lawsuit. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get thrown out altogether.
@1.4 thanks, bubble up!
Since you were in the beta I have a question, I've seen a lot of fun levels but all were for 1 player. I thought there were going to be levels where you had to be many players to get through. Is that still true? Maybe it just wasn't in the beta?
Like you said the article is vague. They mention though that the device monitors if you are relaxed or tensed... which leads me to believe that it is just an on\off control. That company has made a lot of headlines lately, they must be hungry for capital.
I think it's a bit of self-fulfilling prophecy based on their own choices. By aligning themselves with westerners and changing their offerings to try to cater to western tastes, they have lost their identity. And just as Japanese games always did better in Japan than western games, their attempts at western games fall short of games made in the US and western Europe.
The more they continue to sell out and ignore their identity, the less relevant they will become.
It doesn't look as bad as some made it to be. In any case, there aren't enough platformers nowadays for my taste so I will definitely try it out.
I agree with you, the PS3 is a great deal for people looking at everything like games and Blu-ray movies, but for parents\relatives looking to buy a console as gift, they will go with the cheaper good-enough 360.
Sony here is being a little stubborn and a little arrogant. I would expect based on this that the PS3 will remain in 3rd place for at least another year, will loose more exclusives, and the press will remind all of us of that every single week.
@1.6 no need to get personal because you don't agree with some comments, there is a disagree button for that. I actually follow the forum rules, if I post something as a joke or something that may be viewed as biased, I use the open zone. Looking at just the posting summary fails to show you where each comment was posted.
Once Gears2 hit retail we shall see how much of the available DVD space is used, if it is not >90% filled I will be really surprised. I expect a solid dev...
I'm not a big fan of QTE, I hope it won't be overused like in the Bourne game. It was ok in God of War because you only relied on it in the end boss battles and each time it was a short sequence. I hope they learned from that.
@1.7, that's what I said but got a bunch of disagrees. They improved visuals, made the maps bigger, etc. Of course that is going to take more space even with compression. And given that the 360 DVD format has some space for DRM, of course it will be filled up. I think the developers are pulling a technical miracle to fit as much as they are already on a single DVD.
And yes, I played the first Gears twice (single and co-op) and already have Gears2 on pre-order. DVD has a limi...
DVD probably filled up.
I'm a little skeptic to be honest. I don't see how mp3 and a camera will impact games. Realistically the 360 console has music in-game and it hasn't make a big impact for game design, the PS2\PS3 both had interactive camera (a much better camera) based games and those games remained small niche products. I don't see how a lower grade implementation on an handheld will suddenly impact gaming where the same features on consoles failed to impact gaming after many years.
I only se...
The MS approach: competitor's death by a thousand cuts -- pay for timed exclusives, pay for exclusive content, pay to add unplanned 360 version, swag bags to reviewers, etc. It must be nice to swim in Windows monopoly money and be able to bribe your competitor's suppliers.
I only disagree with their last comment that says that only games that have high critics ratings will sell well. We all know and have seen many times that it is rather games with the most hype that will sell well. The two are not exclusives and critics can sometime generate hype but there have been many cases of bad games with hype selling well and great games but without hype (new IP) not selling as well.
So to recap, hype is the #1 factor in game sales, reviews\critics is sec...
Oldest trick in the book, it's called FUD. Just before the big holiday season put doubt in the mind of consumers that another version is coming so they shouldn't buy one now. You could take any product, make your guesses at a possible revision and then make an article based on that speculation with no sources or credible backing.
What about another one: "If your device is intended to play 3D games, put two thumbsticks." Although it could be included loosely by the 3rd one, "don't skimp on features".
