Yes, good discussion, rare to get those in the open zone :)

I was a PC gamer before being a console gamer so I experienced the shift away from PC games for console games because they saw more money there. It worked out in the end because compared to early console games the console games matured with the later generations. Maybe the same will happen with motion control games, anything is possible I guess.

Interesting points. Time will tell.

I remember 1-2 years ago being part of discussions about fearing that the Wii-casual craze would force MS and Sony to do motion-casual gaming to address that market. Back then most people brushed off those fears as "would never happen" and two years later here we are.

Once Natal and PS Motion Control launches, if one of them picks up (I'm betting Natal has a better chance due to marketing) it will be interesting to see ...

@1.2 I hope you're right but I am not so sure. When I hear rumblings of Bungie\Rare\Lionhead\Insomniac \NaughtyDog\etc. being asked to make games using the new motion offerings, to me it means it will divert their attention some. I don't think hardcore games will go away but I could see there being an impact.

That's why I kind of hope that both Natal and PS Motion Control don't sell well. Because if they do, what you just outlined for the Wii would happen on the 360\PS3. Developers would start making mini-games that cost less to develop and sell more and make less hardcore games.

@1.1 Thanks for the vids, Operation Flashpoint looks interesting with their realistic approach.

I have some doubts about Section 8 and Alpha Protocol, meaning I will rent those first.

Good level headed comment. Hopefully with both consoles being cheaper fans from either side can get the competing console, enjoy new exclusives and enjoy more great games.

Even being conservative, if you say that each console has 2 great exclusives a year, over a conservative 5 year span, it means owning both a 360 and a PS3 you get the option to play 20 great exclusives rather than just 10. Definitely worth it if you can afford it.

@9.4 I agree, the way the information is gathered is quite different between the two approaches. They both need post processing and require some interpretation however, that is why will yield the same end results (less responsive, less precision).

I couldn't agree more. I tried the motion sensing on many PS3 games and with the wiimote on most major Wii titles and in all cases it's just not as responsive and not as precise as a direct input controller. Don't even get me started on EyeToy and PS Eye games.

These gimmicks do allow more casual-gamers to play games but it doesn't lead to better games or more enjoyable games for real gamers. I just hope that casual-gamer sales don't encourage studios to drop traditional games ...

Also, the 360 and PS3 don't have enough kids mini-games to make a good kids' console while the Wii was marketed for kids and family. The soccer-moms also have the illusion they may get in shape with Wii-fit at the same time.

It's all about demographic and the size of the market aimed for. It has nothing to do with quality or having the best to offer.

I think they just don't want people going and doing stuff like Rapelay or whatever it was called.

Also, if a game is at the limit of mature ratings it becomes a nightmare to publish on a download format like that because different countries have different rules and various intolerance to specific content.

@1.7 So it's not terrible then, just not great? Would you rate it as average? Below, above?

What recent game would you compare it to?

Thanks for taking the time to share your time with the game with us.

The game comes out tomorrow and still no official review... not a good omen. That means even publications and sites hungry for early hits would not compromise themselves to give it a slightly inflated score; again, not a good sign.

To the easily offended, please note that the following is sarcasm:

Well Maddens_Raiders, Nintendo is thinking of hardcore gamers like you. You will be soon be able to attach a Vitality Sensor to your finger. With every heart beat your score goes up! When it stops, well it's game over, a voice will boom "Fatality!". How hardcore is that?

Bubble up to Unicron, Covenant and Serg just for mentioning amazing games like Okami, Psychonauts and Shadow of the Colossus. Such great memories.

I agree, that advice applies also to games, movies, etc. With too high expectations you set yourself up for big disappointments even if the end product is decent but not perfect.

It's like every time they make a movie from a game and people because they want it to be good expect too much... and we all know how that turns out.

Personally, I never hit the times those people brag about. I like to explore, experiment, and enjoy my games. I think a lot of those listed times come from QA testers or reviewers that just speed run through a game to be done with it.

I agree with you guys above. I read a few of his write ups and this "analyst" Divnich is just as bad as Patcher.

They should have left the sensor out of this conference, they had enough content and they had some good games to show at the end for the surprise factor so it wasn't really needed. Once they have some game or some demo related to the sensor, then it may make more sense but by itself it was just LOL.

I'd like to thank Nintendo personally. I was watching a live feed of their conference and when they presented this I burst out laughing, then they kept talking about it all seriously and I kept laughing so hard my eyes teared up. They couldn't have rehearsed a better comedy act in my eyes, it was perfect, the delivery, the content, and then they showed no game for it. Thanks Nintendo for the great laugh.
