The ending is so vague, I don't see how it is considered a spoiler; except maybe a spoiler to learn that the ending is vague.
I'll still play it, while there are games I play because of the story, Halo isn't one of them. That's why I watched this clip. I play Halo just for the gameplay.
I agree they should stick with Samanosuke. Maybe they could do the popular thing nowadays to reboot a franchise: do a prequel. Young Samanosuke in training!
While by all accounts it's a great game, I think historically GOTY go to games that are more accessible. Without an easy mode to make it accessible to all, a game like this is bound to frustrate some percentage of players, enough to make it loose a GOTY vote.
I have it pre-ordered, I just don't expect it to win a popular GOTY vote.
I hope they will do like Muramasa and support classic controls.
I agree with you by adding "He won't get far with the hardcore gamers" but just like the Wii did, they could do very well with the casual gamers that go for convenience and novelty more so than precise\responsive controls and lengthy rewarding gameplay.
I agree. For me the next generation of handheld (whoever it comes from) should have 2 joysticks or thumbstick in order to bring full 3D game controls like we've had on consoles for many years now. The tricks with the bumpers or the touchscreen to move a camera in 3D just isn't working as well.
Wow, I must say that it looks good and it appears they have kept the same kind of gameplay with exploration and the battles. I'm impressed and really looking forward to it. Trailers for KH 358/2, Okamiden and Fighting Fantasy are making me change my stance about 3D games on the DS. Just need to play them now ;)
Played them both and I think they were both great games, each with their unique style. People not playing one or the other just because of some allegiance are missing out on some fun gameplay.
I would look forward to sequels to both games to be honest.
SpoonyRedMage pointed me to some gameplay video of KH 358/2 and I must say it doesn't look as bad as this preview make it sound. It actually looked close to the PS2 version as far as the battles go, so I'm looking forward to try it now.
I will rent it and try it for sure, that's the only way to truly know for sure if a game is right for you. In a case where controls are "not as good as having an analog stick but it does work" it all comes down to personal preferences. Some people will adapt to the compromise and some won't.
I did see another article about a 3D game on the DS and looking at the video it was better than I would have thought possible:
I'll definitely try it and do my best to enjoy it but my expectations are lowered now that it is on the DS. So far the DS games I have enjoyed all have have been 2D ones; I can't remember a decent 3D one (and no I haven't tried 358/2 yet because it isn't out here).
I love Okami, played it on the PS2 and then again on the Wii.
I wished they would have at least brought it on the Wii so we could have graphics at least as good as the original game and also so we could use the nunchunk for movement. Either it won't be real 3D and therefore not like the original gameplay or else the movement\platforming will be awkward.
In the end though, it's not about our wishes sadly. It comes down to them making a decision based on a business model, they have to believe it will be profitable. Designing hardware isn't cheap; they would probably need a partner.
If they came out with a handheld with 2 thumbsticks, some shooters like Halo and maybe the ability to download and play most 360 Arcade games, then add an achievement tracking adding to the 360 gamerscore (for the junkies :) then I think they would have a shot at capturing some more money from the 360 fanbase.
If they tried to go the mini-games, flash-games, using partial controls, like maybe just adding to the Zune, then it may make them a little money from casuals but it won't ...
Even though some are labeling it as just an expansion, Halo 3: ODST will make a killing. It's coming out at a great time, before all the big games of the fall and at then end of a summer that was slim with high profile releases. Just as "thirsty" gamers jumped on the Arcade games lately, Halo 3: ODST will be like an oasis full of water to dehydrated gamers.
It's very common in retail. If you allow them to sell early, chains that got their shipment sooner get swamped and make most of the sales for the area and other stores that just happened to get their deliveries later lose out. Those dates are there to even the playing field and make it fair to all the retail outlets.
It avoids stores being angry and complaining because of deliveries, it avoids complaints from angry customers coming back empty handed from a store because they he...
Similar here, been a PC gamer from '82 (I know, just aged myself) until about 2004 but I started mixing console games starting in '98, PS1 then later Xbox\PS2 and now I have DS (fat), PSP (fat), 360, PS3, Wii. I mostly play 360\PS3, maybe 80% of my playing time with the rest spread to the handhelds and the Wii.
As for Natal and PS Motion, I will only consider those if I see good non-mini-games getting released.
EDIT: I'll edit too :) In '82 I had a TRS-80, it wasn'...
There sure has been a lot of strange choices that defy logic going on at Square Enix the last few years.
