What lies are you talking about specifically?

The game is literally about standing up to bullies, not about being a bully.

Man people really should learn to read before they write

Clearly someone that knows nothing about the game

Those idiots pay for your free content.

@PlainSimpleGarak

If these so called whales will spend money no matter what and make up 97% of revene like you claim, then your solution is actually more ineffective than something like this.

Also, in the scenario you put forth more people playing a game with microtransactions do not equal a higher % of whales, but a lesser %. At least if we go by your reasoning. Also in such a scenario we have a situation where "whales" fund content creation fo...

They used him in marketing material. Not just the character, his voice too. Without asking him or Konami. Technically this would be considered a breach of copyright, and he has every right to speak up.

Unless the game is using stolen assets, which happens in china all the time, then this is a non issue. Some people are acting like copying style and gameplay aspects is akin to breaking copyright. That is false. This is how genres are made and it is historically how the industry works and evolves.

It used to be that every open world game was named a gta clone, every 2.5D action rpg a diablo clone, every fps a doom clone. And so on, the list goes on forever.

I dont understand how tweaking gameplay has anything to do with Asset and content creation. It is likely that any ending to the game was finished before the game left alpha. At least in the traditional sense beta is supposed to mark the point where all assets and content exist within the game. The rest of development is therefore supposed to be the adjustment of gameplay and polish. Of course nothing ever follows this to the letter. But it is how games always have been developed.

Ehm. Normally how? All games are getting adjustments to gameplay up until and after launch. In what world is that normally not a good thing?

I feel like this is another piece of conjecture that is putting too much self importance on themselves as gamers. The Witcher series, aside from having Henry Cavill, which is a self professed fan of the series, does not seem to take the games into consideration to the degree this article makes it out to be. Neither should it be expected of them. The show is based on a series of books that predate the games both as a publication and within geralts story. The games were already set up as a pote...

This person is a writer for a economic and marketing publication. He seems to have no understanding of the games industry.

Pulling out numbers about market shares of "hardcore" and casual gamers as if that in itself is any indication of succes.

It has been proven again and again that you need to appeal to the core user base as they are always the early adoptere and the drive the market.

Wii and Wii u also showed us how dange...

Ehm.. Did you not realize that the change that made a difference was not "NOT" to "NON", But "PLAYABLE" to "PLAYER"? As these two words have completely different meanings.

The irony is of course probably lost on you. Anyways. Have fun making jokes that makes no sense.

Well they are extremely formulaic in their design methods that is for sure. But watch dogs 2 in particular deserves a lot of Credit for what it did with npc interaction. Because while the game was generic the potential in npc interaction was quite innovative and is still unrivaled. Miles above anything anyone else has done.

Because of this there is reason to hope this might not be as Bullshot as you fear.

They are using some fancy new voice modulation software to make up for that apparently. Whether it is successful or not reminds to be seen however.

And I am sure there wont be big deviations from the main story. But that is not really what they are claiming, just that the player experience might differ wildly, due to the nature of characters one choose to play with. I. e. Tone, Gameplay.

2418d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

No it is not. There is no mutual exclusivity in the word "Non Player" and Playable. Every character in Legion is an NPC until you make them your player character. Which means the correct way to describe them is Playable Non Player Characters.

It is absolutely not an oxymoron.

2418d ago 2 agree5 disagreeView comment

The P in NPC stands for Player, not Playable. Many games have made non player characters playable before, just never to this extent.

Being playable and an non player character is not mutually exclusive by language as you are indicating.

2418d ago 1 agree3 disagreeView comment

NPC is the acronym for Non-Player Character, not "Not Playable Character".

When used correctly it makes perfect sense. Playable Non-Player Character. Many games have featured playable non-player characters. Because NPC does not talk about whether a character is playable or not, but rather whether or not that character is the players character.

Also the way it works in Legion, when you do start playing a NPC they are no longer NPCs, but becomes ...

@lodossrage

you are trying to redefine the word risk. And you are playing extremely loose with both the literal and the figurative definition of the word gambling.

Even if you don't receive what you want, that does not mean you are at risk of loosing out. It's like you want the figuratively and the literal use of the word gambling at the same time. It doesn't work like that.

Literally the word gambling is about the risk of...

Nope. There is no risk of loss in a loot box. You always get something.

It depends entirely on the game and how they chose to implement throphies.

For some people the idea of a plat is enough to entice them to do an entire game. And I have myself done that many times. But often it doesn't add anything to the experience to do so.

However going for the throphies has also, many times, forced me to experience an game in a way I probably would not have otherwise. And when that happens the value of doing it moves from just an ...
