From software set out specifically to make games that were harder. Games where failure meant more. These are not just arbitrary things that enhance or doesn't enhance your experience. They are the experience.
The very core of their games and their storytelling is the death mechanic. Which is one of the very things everyone is arguing should be changed in an easy or more accesible mode.
Dying is one of the core aspects of the game. If you never get to ...
What he is insinuating seems to be the same. I dont really see how it matters.
I think Cory is in the wrong here. His design is more about creating an emotional response through story. While from software is trying to create an emotional response through its "difficulty".
Just as he recieved pushback from the industry for creating a story that focused on the emotional impact of fatherhood so is From software getting pushback for creating an emotional response through its punishing worlds.
I am actually very suprised he is...
I really doubt they would dare to "re-envision" demon's souls. The gameplay formula is arguably what made the game great more so than anything else. It could use a remake treatment, but I don't see a re-envision treatment fitting such a title.
It would have to be a game that needs more of a shift in it's core design. Something like changing viewpoint, fixed cam to free cam, or going from 2d to 3d.
I don't know what it is, but I...
The difficulty of these games lie at the core of their design.
Having one dev tell another how to make their game easier is kind of like one guitarist telling another to make his riffs simpler because some people are unable to play it.
No respect for the art of game design.
Everything does not have to appeal to everyone and that is fine.
I have a hard time making a top list, because all of the soulslike I have played each have certain strengths and certain weaknesses.
Lords of The Fallen has arguably the both best, and the worst, boss design of any souls-like. Even including, in my opinion, from software titles. Because every boss has a unique mechanic that forces you to adapt your playstyle quite a lot. Most From software bosses usually depend on very intricate visual designs, but very simple combat mecha...
God of war borrows the control scheme from the soulslikes, but it really does make it into it's own thing.
I remember being hopeful that God of War could potentially evolve the soulslike to be more arcady. To see if such a formula would still work without the punishing mechanics. However God of War did not actually do that. I would say that god of war actually plays a lot more like God of War than any soulslike, despite using the soulslike control setup.

I really do hope Sean Murray can get some positive momentum behind himself and the team. They really did get a raw deal. He is a visionary and the industry needs more people like him. Even if the majority doesn't seem to want to accept it.
None of the soulslike games are difficult like that though. People that haven't really delved into them seem to think these games are hard just to be hard and requires incredible amounts of patience and hand to eye coordination. A thought that seems to be further pushed because the people that love the games often tell people to "get good" when questioned on the subject.
The thing is that these games, while utilizing difficulty in a different way, really aren&...
After all that build up this trailer felt like a letdown. Not that the game has to be bad, but that trailer felt very lackluster to me. I dont know if it is the editing or the music, but to me it comes of as trying to be hype piece without any hype.
Interestingly enough. That is not what the review is criticizing. Seems to be played by someone familiar with the genre.
The main critique is that the stealth is too easy.
I don't know if fortnite does it justice or not, that is kind of irrelevant. I am sure there are better examples out there.
Point is that you made it sound like spending money on something that is free to play is dumb, the assumption was that it is dumb because it is free. However I guess you are just against free to play games in general.
I personally think some games are probably served better by the free to play models than not, but there are sur...
It is elitist because yes they are arguing that the new skins should cost more, because they paid more for the old skins. It is defacto elitism.
"I paid more for my fun, therefore everyone else has to pay more for their fun"
It is however also true that buyers remorse is what is driving it, but buyers remorse would be asking for refunds. Which would still be entitlement without prerogative.
Not sure if I like or dislike the idea that they are sticking with the retro sci-fi look. It is almost like the game feels dated/nostalgic with shinier graphics.
Still early though so I am sure this is probably not indicative of the final game. Just stood out to me a bit. Like the classic looking keypads, the 70s lights on everything look, and the very square based level design. All things that made the video feel a bit like a fish out of time. Still, this might be a posit...
You do realize that if no one spent money, the game would not be free to play, it would be dead.
The ignorrance of the attitude you are showing is just beyond me.
Games cost money. The free to play model is built on the idea that some people are willing to spend more than others. Without those players spending more, the game would not even exist.
So you are pretty much saying that games should not exist.
If they lowered the price on the old ones the outrage would be much, much, much, higher. Then the people that bought them early would actually have a better reason to complain.
What they are asking for is the new skins to be more expensive, not the old ones to be cheaper, as the people that are complaining are the people that already bought the older skins.
They want to keep skins expensive so they can feel good about their purchase. And that is all.
Because the argument is that the new skins should cost equal to the old, or more, so that the people that bought the old skins can feel better about themselves spending that ammount of the earlier skins.
It is pretty much a text book entitled elitist cry baby argument.
Epic lowering the prices on microtransactions would be considered a net positive by absolutely everyone else.
No one is unhappy about this. The select few that are are elitist bastards.
Not that I play fortnite, but this argument makes it seem like a childish argument between two entitled parties. And considering that a huge majority of people playing Fortnite is kids, and they don't even care, this comes of as the author is the one that is being the entitled elitist.
The problem with that is that while the majority of gamers are casuals, it has been proven, time and time again that you need a core of hardcore gamers to drive the success. There are countless examples.
MMOs that have failed by focusing too much on appealing to casuals, are a plenty. Because while the majority of players are casual compared to the hardcore. If you don't have a core group of people playing your game that is actually willing to spend money, you are not ...
He is actually saying the oposite though. Saying that making something more accessible would not impede his vision. Clearly indicating that it is silly to say or argue that upholding some form of inaccesibility because of creative vision.
