There has never been a case where the release version of a playstation looked anything like the dev kit.
So while Editoral and Reviews are technically considered as branches of journalism. They are, by their very nature paradoxical when it comes to journalistic integrity and/or ethics.
Why? Because both practices go directly against the values proposed by journalistim ethics.
Namely the following points.
"Independence and objectivity: journalists should avoid topics in which they have a financial or personal interest"
...
And as I said. They are the exception, not the rule.
Games Media does not operate like a news outlet. It operates as a marketing company. I know. I have worked as a games "journalist".
My anecdotal evidence aside. The actual journalism that happens within games media is so rare that it only exists as the exception that confirms the rule that they should not be considered journalism.
Most news reported on within games media ...
This argument makes the assumption that games media is or was journalism at some point.
That is simply not true. Reviews in themselves is not journalism No matter where or what it is about.
It is marketing and it has always been marketing. The author even realizes this when it is argued that the lack of reviews hurt sales.
The fact that games media is so focused around reviews, something inherently subjective, hurts its journslistic i...
@Gaming101
Which is fine. I don't even think I really agree with the premise of the article, but it is never put forth as anything more than food for thought. Which is fine.
@Obscure_Observer
You have to be trolling. You just called Horizon: Zero Dawn a service oriented game. How on earth can you justify that statement?
I mean you are cleary concern trolling and seem to be trying to turn facts around to fit your narrative, but this has to take the cake.
Horizon: Zero Dawn is a single player open world game without microtransactions. It has 1 expansion, that was arguably so good value that it could have been...
I see people have the standard knee jerk response to anything that might seem to defend the idea of microtransactions.
The article actually never does that. In fact it echoes what Masterfox is saying. So he clearly did not read the article. The point that the article makes is one with a lot more nuance. Which is about the idea that when EA launches a game with no microtransactions it usually means they are not willing to support it. And why the fact that they did not do it ...
I dont think you read the article.
That is blatanly false.
The reason bioshock always gets mentioned When this is brought up is because the silent protagonist is not only not a detriment to the story, but actually part of the core storytelling, and crucial to make the story work at all.
Yep Support. They are talking about video output. I. e. Being able to support displays with native 8k.
Perhaps with a some form of checkerboarding to enhance the experience.
8k graphics in itself is an oxymoron. Graphics themselves are not 8k, the resolution is. It's like when people are talking about hd or 4k textures. Like the texture are actually HD or 4k. They are not. As that would be incredible pointless and stupid.
This art...
Which is understandable. For some there is never going to be something like the first time.
However there are some very real arguments to be made about how the design has improved. Or at the very least evolved.
Demon's Souls was f. ex. very linear, something which dark souls and bloodborne tried to change up and Bloodborne's Central Yharnam is, from software's, epitah of that. Arguable to best level in any soulslike game. The way it slithers...
And how can you make such a claim? Considering it goes against all common sense business practices?
Wow started making news with players selling items for absurd amounts of money?
This has been around as long as it has been possible for players to trade in virtual items.
So that was, at the time, old news. It happens in every mmo released.
well that is not true. There are plenty of ways to spend money to expand your experience in DnD.
Destiny for all it's faults still feature best in class shooter gameplay.
I would also argue that the looter aspect, although arguably worse, still carries more weight in destiny because of the interconnected gameplay modes.
But that argument goes both ways. I. E. Borderlands is a singleplayer game with optional coop and therefore doesn't require any balancing. This gives the game and its players more freedom, but on the flip side it also makes ...

Not my article so I dont care.
@kernel
No my reading comprehension is fine. You are making the exact same argument the article is making. Which is that optimizing the settings of a pc game is often beyond the capabilities of the user base.
I dont disagree, neither does the author of this article. I am pointing out that you are using the same logic, but coming out with an ilogical conclusion. Which in this case is that you...
To be ignorant of something you have to be ignoring some aspect of that which you are ignorant of.
Well no. There is objectively a smaller mark up on the components in a console than in a pc.
So objectively you are getting more valuable components for your investment.
Subjective value is what matters to everyone, yes, but there is objectively a value to compare here as well.
Nope i just cant stand people that dont use logic.
Using a similar effect and shot composition might leave a bad taste in some people's mouths, but it is not considered ripping off. It is simply similar concepts, it could be considered inspired by or a homage, but considering how generic these shots are it could Just as likely have been a coincidence.
Regardless, none of the creators assets where used, shot composition is not protected as an ip. Moving on.
