.......? Did you think it was a different game?
My new Sony W800B TV is PsNow ready, so I'll be giving this a go over the weekend. Pricing is pretty poor but I'm sure they will drop pretty quick if no one uses the service.
Sony need to set the example and price their games correctly. Maybe then the other publishers will follow suit. It's not really Sony's fault the other publishers are greedy.
I will only ever buy a SONY Tv. The latest, a 50" W800B is crazy value for money when you take into account features and overall performance.
IQ with my PS4 is eye wateringly good ;-)
Congratulations to SONY for turning it around.
I bought on PSN. I only buy digital now days so I can swap from game to game without having to change disks (lazy I know, but it irks me having to get up and swap out a disk each time I swap games).
Back OT. Preordered digitally and then sat there looking at the clock count down till I could start the download lol. Then realised I needed to download a minimum of 11Gb before I could start playing (47Gb total!). So then had to wait about 50min for the download! Was literally th...
I agree that Naughty Dog have done a stellar job. But let's not get too carried away.
For one, the geometry is basically unchanged (environmental/objects) the main character models are improved but from what I could tell from my brief play with photo mode, NPC and enemy models (geometry wise) seem unchanged.
The rest of your comments are reasonable praise, but AA and AF filtering are still very basic. The jump to 1080p has helped IQ more than any advanc...
Having played it for several hours last night, I can say the differences are huge. None of the vids or pics do the final result justice in any way.
The jump to (almost) locked 1080/60p improves the whole experience to the point that there is no way I'll ever play the original again. And this is from a guy who thought the original was essentially "the perfect game".
It just feels like this is the way the game should always have been. And kudos to...
None of the reviews I've read mentioned the 60fps shadows as "poor quality" or "distracting" so I'm thinking for the most part it will only be a major issue for photo mode. And only become really noticeable when you pause and deliberately go looking for them.
The very rare instances of dithering/flickering would be distracting though. Thankfully this seems extremely rare.
I know it's off topic but the weird flickering shadows ...
That's awesome! And I fully expect heaps of DLC as the game evolves. I'm thinking new planets and systems as we take back what the darkness claimed hundreds of years ago.
What I'm not excited about is the prospect of having to pay addition fees each time new content is released. I'd pay for a one off season pass (like BF4) but Activision can go eat a whole bowl of d**k if they try charge for each DLC separately!
Shadow detail, like any other graphical calculation, require more resources at higher quality.
To increase the quality of the shadows means each frame takes longer to compute. Obviously at 30fps they had spare compute time so they could afford to bump the shadow quality. But they could not maintain this quality at 60fps due to having to draw twice as many frames in the same time frame.
Edit. As to Uncharted 4. The next uncharted game is being written from th...
I think it is you who should stop drinking the kool aid my friend.
Teo72 comment was a very eloquent and we'll written analogy of software optimisation. Especially in relation to the PS4 and it's ability to carry out fine grained asynchronous compute (GPGPU or otherwise).
I think ND have done a stellar job of porting TLOU to PS4. Especially considering the massive differences in architecture from the PS3.
Jaggies have no place on current gen IMO. It was one of my "pet hates" of last gen. I'd hoped they would be a thin of the past this gen..... but alas no.
Destiny is a fine example. As good as destiny looks the jaggies are terrible. I'm all for 1080p render targets, but I'd happy play @900p with a proper MSAA solution over 1080p native with horrid jaggies! Post process FXAA is woefully inadequate in this day and age.
Not sure what AA sol...
Totally agree. And excellent explanation. If only there was more common sense thinking like this on N4G.
The exact same thing happened with the early BF4 footage last year. All the Xbots were saying the same thing. Sharper image, better colours ect. And look how that turned out. PS4 version offered noticeably better IQ.
If you see both versions of the beta side by side (in person, not some shite compressed video/pics) you can see the PS4 version has noticeabl...
What I find strange is that you can play games in 3d (have been able to for ages) and yet no 3d BD support?
Makes no sense really. Surely if the current firmware supports 3d gaming, 3d BD should work too?
Totally agree. Digital foundry are one of the very few sites that do completely unbiased comparisons.
They go to great lengths and use extremely expensive equipment to analyse games on a purely technical stand point.
Just because their results don't mirror YOUR personal bias, does not mean their analysis is skewed. Facts and figures don't lie bud.
Bha ha ha.
I'll wait for a digital foundry analysis if I were you. Guarantee the PS4 will have the edge with both a more solid framerate and slightly better IQ.
Why for example did the Xbox1 beta only ship @900p? Obviously they were struggling to maintain a locked 30fps at 1080p. Something must have been sacrificed so the Xbox could achieve res/framerate parity with the PS4.
SONY has always had the best exclusives. I don't know why this is even an argument.
Not only does SONY have the most talented first party developers. It has far more first party studios. And they also continue support for their systems for much longer than MS.
Just look at the state of first party exclusives for the Xb360 currently and over the last 12-18months. MS gave up supporting development for the Xb360 ages ago. Where as SONY continues to support...
OT.
The soundscape was one of the highlights of the original. Had several "brown pants" moments playing late at night with the sound turned up.
Glad to hear they've stepped up the sound quality to match the upgraded visuals. Cannot wait to experience this amazing game all over again. An absolute masterpiece of visual entertainment!
I know it's off topic but have to totally agree. Just bought a set myself (especially for destiny beta) and for the price, they perform exceptionaly well!
They are by no means a "high end" head set. But they are a very good budget headset.
Wow! This again!? Why oh why are we having the same argument we've been having for 12months+....again!
Nothing has changed in the last 12months. PS4 hardware still > Xbox1 hardware. And it will still be the case in another 12months.
I hope to f'k we are still not feeding the same BS flame bait articles by then. Then again I thought that 12months ago too....
Sigh.....
Surely people cannot be that silly?
I personally think Mulk's comment was just a failed attempt at trolling.
OT. Everything Naughty Dog learnt while remastering TLOU will assist in the development of UC4.
It bodes well for the development of UC4 that ND were able to achieve these kind of results on the TLOU remaster after only 6months of development.
