Ha ha! Downgrade!? Said no one ever!
The latest video looks amazing. Having been a gamer for nearly three decades I was honestly blown away. It's the sort of image quality I've been dreaming of since the Atari 2600 days.
It looks almost CGI ffs. If this is what is possible from the PS4 mere months after launch then the future of console gaming is bright indeed!
I can't believe people are criticising these visuals! Seriously your e...
Blown away by both The Order and Driveclub.
If rumours that Uncharted looks even better than the Order are to be believed then it's truly a glorious time to be a PS owner!
Also, off topic, but we so need a new Motorstorm PS4 game. 3d support update for the PS4 and Motorstorm 3d PS4.
Pacific Rift in 3d was our 'go to' party game. Such epic fun and looked sensational in 3d on a 130" projector screen!
I happy for MS to prove me wrong, but common sense tells me that true 'cloud computing' of real time game assets are many years away.
We may see it come to fruition by the end of this gen, but I wouldn't be holding my breath if I were an Xbox1 owner.
Look at MS track record of delivering on promises thus far, just saying......
Awesome news!!
Cant wait to play some clasics. Such an amazing back log of game for SONY to choose from too.
Now all I need to do is find to time to enjoy the gaming greatness!!
I'm sorry but all Sony have to do is show up to win E3.
They will have the more impressive line up (Sony first party studios will blow anything Ms shows out of the water) plus they will have the definitive version of any multi plats shown.
There are more exciting new IP's coming for PS4 than Xbox1 add PS Now and Project Morpheus and MS are the one's that really need to bring their A game. They are on the back foot afterall.
Its quite possible. But MS will never "own" the market in the US like it did with the 360.
Even if (and a big if) the Xbox1 ends up leading sales in the US it will never be by a huge margin. And SONY will continue to lead global sales by a huge margin.
My prediction. SONY to lead MS by 2:1 globally by September. And gap to continue to widen.
Is this a new "slim" revised console? Or just the same giant brick just repackaged without a Kinect sensor?
It would make more sense IMO to wait till they have a "slim" version to re release. The entire console needs a redesign and re release.
Yes. Most definitely. The difference is huge.
But... IMO locked 30fps >>>>> unlocked 30-60fps
Rock solid 30fps with good quality post processing and motion blur should be industry standard (absolute bare minimum) anything less is unacceptable for this gen.
A better question would be "how many people can see the difference between 60fps and 120fps.
For example myself I can notice a perceivable difference up...
Tiled resources, Mega Textures, Partially Resident Textures. It's very similar technology and offers similar advantages.
The difference is the way the Xbox1 hardware handles the tech. Apparently the Xbox1 hardware was built with tiled resources in mind and as such can use the tech with very little performance overhead.
The same tech can and has been used on other hardware for a long time now. I'm not sure to what extent it's use will effect games ...
After reading through the comments and having a jolly good giggle I realise just how little people actually know/understand about lighting in games.
All game engines use a combination of Static (pre baked if you will) and dynamic lighting.
Obviously it basically comes down to the light source in question. While certain effects/visuals can only be achieved with dynamic lighting, many light sources can remain static without negatively effecting image quality ...
So a Developer making "good use" of available hardware is news worthy now? I don't get it. So Crytek found a use for the eSRAM. WOW! I'm sure their the first one to do that!... Not.
Woop di doo! It's one use (of which there are countless) and any developer worth their salt should be doing the same. I just don't understand why this is "news" and why anyone cares?
If Forza is a "sim" then we might as well start calling the NFS games sims.
Forza's racing model is far too casual/arcadey to be classed as a sim. Handling is not accurate enough.
GT and Project Cars are sims. Even Drive Club is more arcade racer than sim.
Back on topic. Forza looks nice, but there are far better games to show off what the Xbox1 is capable of graphically. It's was one of the few games I bothered playing on ...
I'm hoping Battle Front too. The Starwars universe is literally the perfect environment for Ea to create epic large scale battles.
Everything in Starwars is large scale. 16km long battle cruisers, 120km in diameter battle stations, at-at walkers dear god people. It's all there waiting for a decent game to be created around it.
I think Cod returning to ww1/ww2 would be an awesome idea. The whole "future solder" thing has been done to death and IMO is boring as f'k.
Some of my favourite COD experiences were from the earlier games set in the past. Everything after MW2 has been utter shite. Literally the same recycled shite over and over.
I'm stoked that you have access to that much free with PS+. If I really enjoy the experience and want to access the rest of the game then I'll buy the retail digital version.
I don't see what the fuss is about. It's not a free to play game after all. The majority of PS4 gamers have a PS+ subscription so they wouldn't sell many copies if everyone with a PS+ account got the full game for free.
They have to turn a profit ffs.
To say the Xbox1's eSRAM is a "bottle neck" is not quite correct. A more accurate statement would be to say the Xbox1's memory sub system is a bottle neck.
The Xbox1's performance is better with the eSRAM than it would without it. So it's not the eSRAM so much as it's the memory system as a whole.
The eSRAM definitely has some advantages for specific tasks but it's not some magic performance enhancer.
I know ...
Here's a crazy idea. Claim a replacement under warranty instead of writing stupid flame bait articles.
Misk007
Agreed. GTA5 is an impressive technical feat, but it also clearly shows the limitations of last gen hardware.
The Next Gen versions are going to be very impressive visually.
@Septic
I thought I read that ND already had their engine (the same engine that the UC games and TLOU used) running on PS4 hardware "for some time".
And that they had no need to develop a new engine from the ground up specifically for the PS4 as their existing engine was so powerful and flexible it could be customised to make use of the PS4 new technology.
I'd expect both TLOU and the next uncharted game to run off an evolution...
These maybe 4k screens, but no way they are ultra settings. Way to many jaggies, LOD of objects, even in the middle ground are way too low to be 'Ultra' assets.
