I've never been able to afford a console "day one" before. I've always had to wait till the first price drop.
But since the PS4 and Xbox1 (to some extent) are so affordable at release, I've opted to buy at release.
For me the novelty of having my PS4 day one is the main reason I've pre ordered.
I'm 33yrs old now, and with family and career commitments I only manage to game 3-5hrs a week so only having a couple of...
@ all the people who are on about the eSRAM being a good thing.
It's one of the biggest issues. It was a band aid solution to the bottle neck created by the use of DDR3 ram for the system. Its fast yes, but there is nowhere near enough of it, and it creates unnecessary complexity for developer to deal with.
Basically eSRAM = fail
It will always be a hindrance and a bottle neck, no matter how "experienced" developers get with i...
Sorry, double post
@MMEHTA
eSRAM - "As for the eSRAM it plays the same role of what Cell did with the PS3, to unlock more horsepower for the console."
LMFAO!?! You should really do some reading before you post dude! That is the stupidest statement I've read in a long time.
Cell is a processor, eSRAM is well... ram.

Agreed. Love the fact that we have seen a lot of variation in the level design and some interesting gameplay mechanics. That little floating bot thing could open up some good strategic options??
lol
My favorite shot too. It's funny how such a little detail can add a level of realism to the shot.
Ever since they released vids and pics of the early builds, I've been very impressed with the FOX engine.
The faces and lighting in particular look amazing, realistic but still retain that sharp, gritty MGS feel the games had always had.
Fingers crossed they can deliver on the final product :-)
Oh Joy!! That looks both sensational visually and a metric crap ton of fun.
This vid just made my mind up. KZ-SF will be day one digital download.
Was going the BF4 route, but think I'll hold of a week or two and play the crap outta KZ first.
AO will fix the lighting and contrast issues. Jaggies and the lower resolution will remain unchanged by the inclusion of AO in the feature set.
That being said both the PS4 and Xbox1 versions are not final builds so they could very well make other improvements before launch.
Can't wait, and am happy to see both versions are looking great.
True, but I'd rather they pushed it back than rushed out unfinished POS.
I loved Planetside 2 on the PC. Spent a lot of hrs playing. Have high hopes for the PS4 version.
The Jaggies was the first thing I noticed. In some parts of the campaign vids they are really bad.
They will be more noticeable when you see the game running in the flesh. These vids are so grainy and full of artifacts that they blur most of the detail.
Trust me In the flesh the Jaggies will stand out like dogs balls.
Honestly both look great. Smooth with some very nice next gen effects. The only place the XBOX1 falls short in my opinion is the Jaggies (aliasing is quite distracting)
Otherwise they are both impressive. I happily surprised. That being said. Going on the strength of these vids I'm glad I will be getting this on PS4 as aliasing was one of my pet hates of last gen. I find it very distracting.
For me decent anti aliasing is much more important than the magic 1080/60p target this coming generation.
On my PC gaming rig I'll always sacrifice resolution for the sake of a steady frame rate and high levels of anti aliasing and post processing.
Let me tell you. 720p with high levels of AA and a silky smooth frame rates is infinity superior to 1080p and low levels of AA and a shoddy frame rate.
Experimentation has shown me that even ...
-Woefully long loading times
-Terrible aliasing
-GTA4
-The failed promise of true 1080p gaming
And finally,
- The rise of the angry, abusive, bitter little fanboys (this is for all platforms) such negativity! It makes visiting most tech/gaming websites and forums almost unbearable.
And sadly this last complaint seems to be just getting worse and worse. Fingers crossed once the this upcoming gen is finally released they will a...
I was intending on going mostly digital as I have a decent Internet connection and a 200gb limit before the speed slows down.
But since the size of game data files have emerged, and the announcement that the PS4 can cache game data instead of having to do a permanent install. I think I'll mainly stick to buying the actual physical game.
Think I'll still grab a couple of launch titles In digital. Just to see how the whole streaming as you play thing w...
@FanboysAreGay
Thank you!! I Feel the exact same way. The general negativity and elitism on this site is really disappointing, and saddens me as a gamer.
At 33yrs of age I have had the great joy of growing up with gaming from a very young age and having had a system (or two or even three) from every generation of gaming since the Atari 2600 http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

Caching http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
Essentially the PS4 allocates a portion of the hard drive to cache game data for the game you are currently playing. It uses this data like it would any other install (permanent of not).
The difference is, once you are done with the game or want to play a different game, this data is flushed and the same partition on the hard drive is used for...
@Redgehammer
I praise both Microsoft and SONY for having day one patches. It means they are still hard at work improving the UI and functionality of their systems.
I mean I look forward to the little pop up message on my PS3 to tell me it needs an update. Usually means some minor improvement to UI or adding content/features.
Both the XB360 and PS3 had countless patches over their lifespans. Why the negativity?
I'm not so concerned about 1080p vs 720p or 60fps vs 30fps as I am about the following.
Jaggies (aliasing), it's such an immersion breaker for me.
Consistent frame rates, 30fps+ is fine with me as long as it's v-snynced and you experience no tearing or sudden drops.
Input lag (especially in shooters and action games) ruins the experience no matter how pretty it looks.
If developers manage to deliver on these po...
Joy!! PS4 Media Server FTW :-)
