It all comes down to how much space they could allocate to ESRAM on the APU die. As it was MS had to sacrifice GPU cores to fit the 32mb. Having a larger amount would have meant even less room for GPU cores.

More eSRAM would have been pointless if it was at the expense of GPU performance as overall system performance would have been worse.

@teebag

There are some games I'd happily pay twice to play again remastered.

TLOU is one example. I preordered the remaster before they even announced a price point. I was prepared to pay full price again, and I would have had a grin from ear to ear while I handed over my hard earned cash. I just loved TLOU that much.

For fans, and people who never got the chance to play the original. Remasters are a god send!

IMO the M...

Yea you're right I guess. I was just hoping for something fresh and unique this time round.

Sadly more and more this game is just looking like the same old COD tripe, but oh wow, now it looks shinier, and with wall jumping. Pah. I have a sinking feeling it will not feel new or interesting in anyway.

I cancelled my preorder after playing the PS4 beta. It was fun at first but it got real boring real quick. IMO it's missing the magic that made Halo an instant classic.

Boring PvE combat. Highly repetitive mission structure. Limited and generic arsenal. Disappointingly small areas to explore.

I was hoping for epic SP and co-op but felt that outside of competitive MP (which was fun and well balanced for most part) everything was a bit meh. I was genuinely ...

Lols. Fellow Optus user here. So much for that NBN roll out. F'k you Tony Abbot you clown!

I got lucky and actually got my new fiber connection before they stopped the roll out. Sadly many of my PSN friends weren't so lucky :-(

Oh dear. I had high hopes for this game. Finally some innovation and (heaven forbid) something new!

Any hopes I had that the next COD might have been something special have just been shattered.

Wtf!

I can't see cloud gaming services replace physical consoles any time soon. Internet infrastructure being totally inadequate for 80-90% of the population.

As far as those who "have to" have a physical copy of your games. I'm the complete opposite. I brought 2 "physical" PS4 games at launch, and regretted it every time I play them since.

Why? Cause I have to change the damned disk every time I want to play the game! It shits me to ...

I don't think anyone is debating DX12 will improve upon DX11. But more the claims of outlandish performance gains that were initially proffered.

Didn't some MS clown claim DX12 would be like giving each Xbox1 a second GPU or some such nonsense? Initial claims of 2x performance gains! Seriously Wtf!

Of course the Xbox1 will benefit from DX12. But the gains will be no more impressive than any other API update.

It's just more typical...

Wow. So you have zero idea what your talking about.

Same amount of data with less algorithms... what!? Not trying to be a prick, but your comment would have held more weight if you didn't try and sound all technical and fail.

That being said. I understand what you're trying to say. But sadly no amount of coding wizardry will make up that 40% difference in raw GPU grunt.

For the Xbox1 to hit 1080p some sacrifices will need to be made....

PS3 372gflops (total peak theoretical performance) Cell BE 180gflops (approx) Rsx Reality Synthesiser 192gflops (approx)

PS4 1800-2000gflops (total peak theoretical performance) AMD Apu (130-150gflops CPU) (1840gflops GPU)

So on paper the PS4 is about five times as powerful as the PS3.

Also. As you can see the Cell BE in the PS3 is actually more powerful than the CPU in the current consoles.

Also. Just to stir the pot a littl...

Seems to be a lot of "salty" comments popping up.....

I for one and proper excited for this game. My favourite type of game is definitely story driven single player experiences. And if they can deliver gameplay to match the visuals (which are some of the best I've ever seen on any platform) then this has the potential to be an epic experience.

The story and setting are unique enough to set this apart, and those visuals! Seriously impressive IQ...

No that is totally incorrect. You clearly have not read any information on the "temporal projection" technique.

They only use an interlaced frame buffer for one specific part of the render pipeline. The final render (the one that gets sent to your TV/display) is a native 1080p image.

4224d ago 6 agree3 disagreeView comment

This! MP is still native 1080p. I don't understand why people can't get their head around this.

Just because one part of the render pipeline uses a lower resolution frame buffer does not mean the final render is not 1080p.

I guess people just believe what they want to.

Considering KZ MP is heaps of fun, plays brilliantly, has virtually zero bugs and looks gorgeous (irrespective of the 1080p argument) this is kind of sad.

Especially considering BF4 has been a complete mess and basically unplayable for much of it's release. Where do I sign to sue EA for that abomination?

As for KZ SF being native 1080p. Well I had thought that debacle had been settled months ago! I can't believe people are still arguing that it's...

F'k the remakes. I want a reboot of the franchise. After RE6, the whole series is dead to me.

What the hell was the point of that monstrous wall of text.

It's completely unreadable and pointless!

I agree. I had fun with the Beta, but is was very repetitive. The weapons all felt the same too.

I cancelled my preorder too. I'll wait for a few reviews and some user feedback before I drop for the full game.

It had moments of sheer awesome, but I walked away from the beta with an overall 'meh' feeling.

I couldn't deal with the whole walk for a few hundred meters, kill a group of generic baddies, walk a few hundred metres, k...

Not necessarily true. Any system will be only as fast as it's weakest component.

No point having tflops of GPU grunt and a lightning fast multicore processor if your ram is woefully inadequate.

This is seen most clearly in comparisons between entry level GPUs with DDR3 vs GDDR5 RAM. The difference can be as much as >50% with the same hardware, same clock speed, but the difference in RAM bandwidth makes a world of difference.

Having ...

Yawn.....

Is it just me or do all the weapons in destiny feel very similar? Like every pulse rifle feels the same (just different stats) every hand cannon feels the same (just different stats) I got really bored with the weapons in the beta.

I mean ignoring the different stats, there are basically only like 8 different weapons in the game right?
