It's gotta be the video encoding surely? Terrible videos. It seems to run like 20FPS all the time, much worse than GTA4. It can't run like that finished.
I'm looking forward to seeing how all the platforms stack up and if the older consoles give a good experience.
If the PC version looks like the 2012 E3 version then yes, it's ok there was no downgrade for the most powerful platform.
The sort of things highlighted here are the exact sort of thing you expect to be better on a higher end Pc anyway. There is a lot more memory bandwidth and fillrate from high end cards to afford better anti aliasing, higher quality reflections and higher quality alpha effects like the explosions.
There is a fair chance it'll look l...
Right near the top.
They are using a pretty flawed comparison, because PS3 and Xbox 360 have gone through lots of iterations that have progressively shrunk their main processors and thus power consumption hugely compared to their first generation models.
The original 90nm PS3 model easily consumed over 200 watts loaded. 'Xenon' Xbox 360 was much the same, close to 200w.
As soon as PS4 and Xbox One get die shrinks to 20nm (or less) whi...
It just doesn't have the crispness and clarity of assets or image quality we saw on earlier builds. Nor that of something like Infamous with more resolution and better AA.
It's a decent looking game but you can see the lower resolution and poor quality anti aliasing hammers image quality. It has to be the low quality AA smearing the game.
One glance at the shot by the water shows a bunch of sub pixel aliasing on the bridge hand rails and the antennas ...
@ voice_of_ reason
No to everything you said.
No, no to anyone on the internet that cannot form a coherent reply with their basis for disputing someone else's post.
No, no, no to anyone that links to a youtube video of a terrible film as the basis for their 'reply' which absolutely adds nothing to the discussion or explains why they disagree with the points made.
That unfortunately, is you. Atrocious.
Not a very good shot to compare though really. The models were always likely to be very similar, and the textures on the models were always likely to be very similar. You can see that the PC on ultra has more polygons on the car models than on 'high' or 'PS4' and finer details with less aliasing around it. Round lights for example, better reflections on the car's floor and front wing although you can't see very well from these angles.
I would say it...
Sony made a lot of money on PS1 and PS2, it was PS3 that really cost them. The hardware development was an absolute huge waste of cash and the cost of manufacturing the machine was too high for too long.
They made something like $3bn profit on the peak years of the PS2 generation, and lost probably more on the PS3 years.
I am happy to report that for the new generation, Sony appear to have made much better decisions and PS4 will probably power that division a...
I'm sure it'll be close, but it wouldn't surprise me if the PC version on maximum were in truth a little bit more refined all around graphically. Resolution of effects and textures here and there, streaming, alpha effects etc. I doubt they would admit it though, no developer ever seems to.
As long as you have a version on a newer console or PC it should be a good experience.
If Google are going to do this, they should do it properly, and have a full fat home console. Rather than what seems like the inevitable mobile style low power box aka Ouya.
If they can have a box that does integrate a Google play account and mobile games running android, as well as a serious games console with PC level hardware it would be much more interesting.
Here is my safety guide: Don't be an idiot
It's not state of the art but it is at least the fastest games console by quite a ways.
It's a fact that is the device Valve were attempting. It's not an excuse or a reason as you first claimed. You now admit that yes, it was a purposeful device, as I originally pointed out.
It is debatable and open to opinion whether that was effective or not.
I don't force myself to believe anything.
I know that for me, it was effective. For you it wasn't, and you want some (again in my opinion) entirely pointless customisation...
"Uhh it would actually make the whole He's a blank slate that allows the player to be in the lead role argument"
It's not an argument. It's a fact. I was merely explaining what the device is. If you don't think it works then that's ok, that's your opinion.
But if you want some token screen before you play to make your character have comedy hair and clown shoes perhaps to make you feel 'immersed' and the character your...
"That's usually the excuse I hear, but it doesn't hold up. Had they made him customizable, then you'd have a point."
It isn't an excuse at all, it's just the way those games are designed.
I also hear the reason that 'if I can make him customisable blah blah' A LOT.
Aaaaaaaaaaand if you could?
What exactly would it serve when you never hear your character talk, or even leave behind his eye...
Gordon Freeman's "character" is really a device to allow players to put themselves into the lead character role. He is a blank slate, it's a simple premise.
Personally I think it works exceptionally well, because you forget about Gordon as a character, and get immersed so as to care an awful lot about the people around him.
It is an intentional decision on Valve's part that you take on his role and ARE Gordon Freeman, and live out his ex...
Everyone loves Windows 8. Right? Right?
14 + 4 doesn't mean the machine only has 14 CUs available for games or that 4 are disabled.
It just means the machine has 14 CUs which are basically very similar if not identical to the Radeon architecture the GPU is based on, and there are 4 CUs which were singled out for modifications and enhancements intended to improve the console's compute performance.
Cerny spoke about this prior to launch, that 4 of those units are leaning to more ALU performan...
It's about the same price in the UK. Well actually now Xbox One has really been cheaper in terms of better deals and bundles.
Xbox One + Titanfall + £10 XBL credit is going for £341.99 on shopto ebay. I don't think you can get a new PS4 for much less than £330 without a game.
Don't think it actually changed sales trends much though. It's been a massive massive price cut since launch but I don't think it's selling as wel...
I think people just need to read a little bit what I said.
Mainly that when you have this type of game, AA is very important. So it's an issue that will have to be addressed.
This game is also multiformat so it'll be a factor that varies from platform to platform, I fail to see where second son comes into it and I didn't even mention it, apart from it being a PS4 exclusive set in a city that uses SMAA.
The other consoles have to d...
PS4 does 'high' settings and 1600 x 900. PC has ultra and can do 1920 x 1080 (this is already a bigger relative resolution gap than PS4 v Xbox One) and up, and up...
So PS4 does a pretty good, pretty good value approximation of a midrange PC.
Let's not kid ourselves however a that good PC isn't considerably more powerful. You quoted 512mb or 1GB of GDDR5 graphics memory for a PC, but it isn't 2010. Most decent cards these days pack at leas...
