@ darthv72

I seen it before, and it just doesn't mean anything.

Comparing a local gigabit ethernet connection to a regular internet connection is like comparing writing a letter to someone and handing it to them directly to writing a letter to them and mailing it to them from halfway across the country.

I have no question or doubt that a whole bunch of fancy rendering can be done server side, the doubt, question and zero proof of concept ...

Sorry darthv72, but that's not exactly proof of concept.

All that is is server based rendering supplied in only 1280 x 720, over gigabit ethernet.

I'll say again, Gigabit ethernet. As in machine to machine, local, high bandwidth low latency connection.

Not an average internet connection with the servers hundreds of miles away.

I'll emphasise this is not the same as just rendering the entire game server side and co...

If only Microsofts proof of concept was half as good as their hype machine. If only said proof even existed. Oh well.

While I don't disagree, what frustrates me is that we still get games are technically incompetent.

Thief recently is the perfect example.

You would think that if you left the programmers and developers up to their own devices, they would produce something nice and polished and technically excellent as we should expect from professionals.

However, we still get all these games that are quite obviously technically flawed on release.

PC version can achieve 60FPS and smooth response without mad hardware apparently.

Whereas the Xbox One versions struggles and has some sort of crazy frame duplication judder.

I am sure that in a youtube video they are not that easy to tell apart quite as easily but playing them hands on it would be a piece of the proverbial.

Saying that if you max the youtube video PC seems obviously cleaner to me and that's WITH compression.

The game has been shoved out the door months before it should in order to figure in their end of financial year report.

Another 6 months would have done wonders for this title I suspect.

PC ain't too bad though. Runs pretty easily.

"I doubt it would be possible on any other platform, except PC"

Ok, it's exclusive to PS4.

But is it actually any good? We'll find out I suppose.

I did wonder about that guy waffling on about the power supply and GPU performance of of Wii U.

I commented saying he is wrong, he doesn't seem to know what he is on about- despite the claim he is a developer.

I thought well if true, why is he talking what seems like rubbish to me.

This article makes it clear that he actual has no official credibility.

Can't say that surprises me I had my doubts

I seriously doubt the game will run any higher resolution than the beta because it would take a vast improvement in performance to manage it.

Sometimes I wonder if the best solution to stop people moaning is to have selectable resolution/performance.

You can have 1408 x 792 averaging near 60FPS, or you can have 1600 x 900 and locked solid to 30FPS. Two modes.

Then have the game collect data when it's online and see who actually goes for t...

It's not too late to ensure the machine has moderate success, but it's an uphill struggle.

I know we have people upset about cutting the price, ones that have bought the machine before. Or stuff like how cutting the price is bad.

This is entirely ridiculous, it's WONDERFUL for the consumer to cut the price of a machine and add value with a free game. Most agreed (including me) it was too expensive before.

Now it seems fairly reaso...

Price CRASH!

Pretty amazing when the machine is only 3 months old, I must say

Source engine is a decade old engine originally designed on PC for forward rendering. It has had incremental updates, but it's nothing like as advanced as all the modern engines we see designed ground up to rely heavily on deferred shading, like CryEngine3+, Unreal Engine 3, Frostbite 2.0 etc you name it.

It also has a pretty poor toolset by modern game engine standards. It was never really licensed as a console engine much, because there were always better console engine...

I pointed out that in order to reach 1600 x 900, they would have to find about 30 percent more performance just to MAINTAIN the framerate they had in the beta @ 1408 x 792.

Performance where there was huge amounts of screen tear, and the game was about 35-45FPS inside the Titans. They barely had enough performance to do 1408 x 792. Digital foundry only confirm this. 4496d ago 14 agree0 disagreeView comment

I always did say Microsoft would drop their price first and I guaranteed it. Even I didn't expect it this early however! Just 3 months after launch.

Sony won't and don't have to. We won't see a Sony drop until they are ready, they hold the cards right now.

Microsoft steeply cut the price of the original Xbox just ONE MONTH after it launched in the UK back in 2002, from £300 to £199.

Early adopters back then got a cou...

Microsoft must have realised they were in serious serious trouble and had to cut the price and add value as fast as they could.

It'll help shift units for Titanfall for sure, but they should sell the machine for £400 with a selection of games all this year if they want to improve sales against PS4.

It's a pretty desperate measure this early on but fantastic news for consumers!

A Trabant might be a car the same as a Ferrari but really, I prefer the Ferrari. There's no way I would want to play anything but Xbox One exclusives on an Xbox One. A decent PC is so much better at the multiformats for not much more money in the case of Titanfall.

I find it ludicrous a $600 PC (I wouldn't go with the APU here, probably an FX6300 CPU and the rest on a discrete card) can utterly destroy a new $500 console on what is supposed to be it's biggest g...

Simple Evilsnuggle, cost.

If you place the eSRAM on a separate die, then it defeats the entire point of using an APU design.

APU design was chosen because it is cheaper and simpler as all the main processing components are integrated on one single chip. It reduces the cost of having multiple large processors, the motherboard design is simpler, the power consumption is lower, so cooling requirements are lower, simplifies the component supply chain and such. <...

Fact is faster system memory is the better solution.

eSRAM only exists inside Xbox One because it doesn't have faster main memory.

eSRAM is a patch fix for a problem Microsoft created by choosing DDR3 memory, NOT the initial ideal engineering solution- which was always just using the fastest memory you could.

eSRAM was only ever going to be a point of limitation, not a strength of the machine when it's competitor uses a much better en...

Still have my Dreamcast. Still love it. I know it was multi platform but one of the best games on it was Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, it looked amazing compared to the PlayStation version and even actually beat the PC version.....

What a game that was. What a console DC was.
