You also can't buy a console that does everything a good PC can do for say....$800.

Pointless article and argument.

They are different machines with different capabilities and gaming experiences.

What these new consoles are, are what most things are these days. Refinements of existing technologies.

Evolution rather than revolution.

If you want revolution in gaming, these consoles are never gonna be it obviously. If however you like the idea of ever more refined gaming experiences, these will do nicely.

Nintendo aren't dead far from it, but the WiiU is struggling however it is spun.

They have to take advantage of PS4 and Xbox One's launch hype now wearing off after 6 months or so, and the gap between those machines delivering their big hitters next year.

There is a distinct lack of software for those machines for some time which is typical of the first year of a console, so Nintendo need to push their machine and games hard this year while they have ...

Kojima once said he wanted a device to attach to a machine that would allow him to express a sense of smell to the gamer.

Now we know why....

Meh.

When the hardware was announced about 6 months before it arrived I said that most demanding games will probably be something like 1600 x 900 on Xbox One.

Why is this still some big deal, it was fairly obvious a year ago where the hardware performance was at. The machine is not really optimised for demanding games in 1080p resolution, it just never has the memory bandwidth or GPU performance and never will unless you compromise the asset quality of the ga...

I love PC gaming.

It has lots of great games to play big titles and small and I like the fact multi platforms are usually the best versions and more customisable. I have one PC whose main components of it bar the GPU and SSD are over 5 years old (yes, really) and it still manages to beat out even the new consoles like PS4 on every multiformat game.

There is no point trying to run down PC gaming if you don't know how good it really is. Consoles are pretty ...

Far as I was aware it's the same as ultra on PC and in 1920 X 1080.

Thats nice but the game will be two years old on PC when this arrives for console and it wasn't that much of a looker in the first place if we are completely honest.

So PS4 should be able to run it pretty decently 2 years after the thing arrived.

It's an online game. This sort of game usually evolves over the years even just on PC. They add visual revamps in mass...

Remember how poorly the game actually runs on Xbox One.

1280 x 720, less than 30FPS, and lots of tearing.

It was a launch title which explains some of the problems on Xbox One, but Xbox One barely ran it so to get decent (say 1080p) performance on PC you'll need a much better system than Xbox One is.

GTX570 and Radeon 7870 are roughly twice as fast as Xbox One's GPU, so they should offer good performance on this game.

4323d ago 10 agree4 disagreeView comment

The game has very high systems requirements which means it is probably just a straight port over.

Minimum GPU is a GTX570/Radeon 7870.

That's the highest I have seen of any game. However recent Capcom ports have had pretty good performance optimisations, and now GFWL is dead as well, it could be decent!

4323d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

Meh the game runs fine all 'high' 1920 x 1080 and 45FPS+ on a GTX670 2GB. Seems ultra is tripping up systems more.

PS4 only does 'high' 1600 x 900 and 30FPS so not exactly worried that the consoles outperform a midrange PC. They don't.

It's a poor show when Ubisoft have screwed AMD users, however this is why a lot of people will pay a bit more for Nvidia hardware because I daresay this happens less frequently for the green team.

The problem is still Nvidia is considered the benchmark for most developers working on PC, they prefer to use Nvidia hardware in testing generally. Think back to Microsoft demonstrating their early Xbox One titles....on Nvidia powered PCs. This is despite the console itself bein...

Even if you have the game discs in your possession for PC, you can't play it til it unlocks online (unlike consoles) which sucks massively.

Wrong Illusive man. I said 'percent more'

Xbox one: 1408 x 792 = 1115136

1115136 / 100 x 30 = 334540.8

1115136 + 334540.8 = 1449676.8

PS4: 1600 x 900 = 1440000

Ergo 1600 x 900 is approx 30 percent more than 1408 x 792. Ever so slightly under that.

You can reverse the calculation or get it more accurate to inside 29 percent but....there you go.

You are of course confus...

Think it looks good for the lowest settings all things considered.

It seems to beat the previous consoles for me and bettering their resolution and framerate should be a breeze for even a low end Pc these days.

PC version looks like a great option IMO, lowest runs well and beats the old machines if you don't have a new console, maximum looks better than the new console which you can eventually work your way up to with upgrades over the years.

4335d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

PS4 probably just edges the settings and sports 30 percent more resolution than Xbox One. Not loads in it but the resolution difference is pretty much as you would expect.

More importantly, we are yet to see the comparable framerate stability of the console versions/screen tearing in an analysis.

FYI 1920 x 1080 is 45 percent more resolution than 1600 x 900.

Like I said Grap, the game is seriously video memory limited on PC.

Assuming you have a 2GB video card, turning on HBAO+ tips you over the 2GB limit (it does for the 2GB GTX670 I tested)

The framerate is actually fine, but a small stutter is introduced moving about because you are then caching too much from the HDD which even as an SSD is infinitely slower than video memory.

Go to MHBAO, and turn off all Windows fancy crap before you launch t...

You can't do it because the bandwidth of the communication between the cards is far too small and the latency too high for them to work from a shared pool of their combined memory.

However my quick tip for running the game on windows is to conserve as much video memory as possible.

This means turning OFF all the windows visual nice-ities before you launch the game.

In windows it means adjusting the appearance of windows for 'best per...

Yes and no. On one of my systems I tried it on a 5 and a half year old Intel i7 920 CPU (OC), 6GB DDR3, and GTX670 2GB OC- you cannot run ultra, because unlike Titanfall you NEED 3GB of video memory.

Otherwise the game stutters and locks impossibly on a 2GB card due to texture streaming even though in between the streaming stutters the framerate is actually OK! A 4GB GTX670 would manage closer to ultra settings (but not quite all) IMO.

2GB GTX670 OC will comf...
