Using an X86 CPU is unlikely, but possible. The fact of the matter is using off the shelf parts and paying licensing isnt likely to cost more than developing a chip from scratch with another company. Development costs arent free, you have to recoup them too when you build a machine and start selling it. Indeed, according to some reports, CELL development cost sony an incredible 2 billion dollars. In many cases, you would be smart to buy something someone else paid to develop- what do you all ...

Had it on dreamcast. Was a killer app for that system, blew away the PS1 version as you would expect

I would be disappointed if Crysis 2 on a quality gaming Pc didnt look better than Killzone (insert number here) on a four year old console.

Ditto any game on a four year old console TBH.....should be bleeding obvious.

I wouldnt claim to know what makes sense for nintendo with launch schedules, who would have done so when wii was announced......?

They go their own path. I was merely speculating on the potential performance of any machine they might deliver next, HD capable hardware is now cheap and widely available. If nintendo percieve the demand is sufficient, im sure they will incorporate HD abilities.

The slowest and cheapest new discrete graphics processors you can...

If nintendo launch next year, it would be a walk in the park to create a machine more powerful than 360 or PS3. Of course it would again fall behind in the visual stakes against another generation from those manufacturers. However Nintendo could steal a few third pary titles from this generation and boast the best console version with even a low end GPU from current technology.

This would mean that nintendo could have the most powerful machine on the market as well as comin...

Yup worked fine with my old save. First it didnt apply the update when logged online, but then i let it get to the main menu offline, then logged and and applied the update when asked worked fine after that :-)

Microsoft have clearly just cocked up and responded taking it down, attempting to convince people downloading it that it wasnt the real deal. Those that stuck it out, well done. From this small window of opportunity, you got yaself a free game lol

Down year on year, but its difficult to beat the release of uncharted 2 and a hardware price drop with a brand new slim design that occurred september last year.

If move shifted nearly 2M in NA and EU for one month, without even launching in japan yet, i would say thats good. It could easily sell another million in japan and that would take it to 3M units+ by the end of november easily. Impressive figures IMHO

Technology is not mature enough. Plus people have already only got used to the idea of the jump to HDTV, they have only just gotten nice and cheap.

I always felt it was too soon to bring in 3D until most channels on plain old regular tv broadcast in HD. Maybe in five years when most things you watch on TV will be in HD, and your HDTV is now looking a little aged and battered, will you consider a new set incorporating 3D.

I expect 6870 to be slower than 5870, but only by 5-10 percent or so. Faster than 5850. Its not the fastest single GPU offering AMD have coming though, and pricing is the most important factor here.

If 6870 hits @ about 250 dollars/200 pounds, then it'll be a good card. That would make it faster than a 5850 for roughly the same money, and nearly as fast as the 5870 for considerably less- £80/$100.

The real answer to the GTX460 will probably be th...

If you miss by three days your only option is to take the next nearest free slot for production in factories that run full capacity 24/7 especially this time of year. Missing a slot only means sony lose money from having it booked, so they are losing out too...

Hopefully sony will lean on manufacturers or arrange more of their own runs in their own factories to make sure GT5 gets production time as soon as it is finished.

If sony pull their finger out, th...

Price is a huge factor in wii success. Casual gaming does work, when its cheap. Kinect costs nearly as much alone as a dedicated system with every game designed for its motion technology. What matters to the casual eye is the price you see on the sticker, because they arent as likely to consider totalling up a bunch of extras. When have major, expensive console add ons intended to prolong the lifespan of a console ever worked? Ever?

Thought that lesson was well learnt in th...

Because many are console ports the minimum graphics requirements are usually tied into the console specs which are five years old now. Testing with a 7800/X1800 series is going to produce slightly sub console visuals. 7800GTX launched in june 2005 making it nearly five and a half years old!

If you havent upgraded your machine in over four years and you are using five year old graphics then you are going to be playing games below console fidelity. However it doesnt take an e...

I learnt a while ago it has its own power supply, and that USB cant provide enough power for it. How much can it possibly use? If you have an old 360 then they already chew near 200 watts, adding a bunch of peripherals will make the setup eat up even more power.

If you want to know what next gen consoles should be capable of in realtime then you just watched the right trailer. Also, watch a few halo wars cutscenes. That level should be achievable.

Microsoft can make GFWL work if they invest a bunch of cash. They just dont want to. I would not be complaining if more of their titles hit PC if GFWL had the sort of investment xbox live has and microsoft treated Pc as an equal rather than second rate to their console. Of course Xbox live has a solid gold revenue stream and GFWL does not, but that can be fixed. Steam shows that other streams work.

Microsoft SHOULD treat PC gamers better, because the likes of xbox only exis...

I agree about the builds thing. Its incredible how many variations must be out there loaded onto these booths. I have seen skid marks for a fact on the builds at gamescon back in august, but there doesnt appear to be any implemented here.

No damage again either. Most of the demos i have seen lack damage. I know it exists, i know its there, but im worried about how little is seen of it and hope its just been tweaked and massaged up until the day the game goes gold which has ...
