Nice benches but a little premature. Waiting until the 6990/6970/6950 are thrown into the mix and priced. These are the real contenders against GTX580- plus the word is GTX570 is very close on the horizon too so we will see what sort of value that can offer.
Meh.
Sorry MarkNicholas but you seem to be confusing what is coined as 'LOD' with tesselation here. For many years level of detail is a method where geometry is REDUCED as an object gets further and further away. It has been used as a method for many years in games, as a way to save processing power.
Tesselation is the opposite of sorts to level of detail, where geometry is actually added the closer you get to an object, sort of a reverse LOD. Although this has been poss...
I question the journalistic credentials of this site.
Over-Exaggerated isnt even a word. Exaggerated already means to overstate, no need to say something is over-overstated
Less than two weeks away, DEFINITELY less than two weeks away! In less than two weeks i'll be playing GT5.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO O OOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH H HHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO O OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOO
''Most of the people here dont have PCs?'' Well what are most are using to access this site with then and type all these comments? Their phones? I doubt it.
I have a gaming PC, and not even a particularly expensive gaming PC. As long as you can run this 1280 x 1024 or 1440 x 900 then you still have more than TWICE the resolution the 360 version has. That sort of res is well within the abilities of a Radeon 5570. Thats like a $70/£55 card.
Dont say Xenos in 360 is three times weaker than a card like this. Talk about flattering 360! GTX580 has nearly TEN times the pixel fillrate as Xenos. Xenos + daughter die has 330 million transistors, GTX580 has 3 BILLION.
In truth, Xenos is utterly outclassed even by a three year old 8800GT which is considered low end by 2010 standards.
Wow. Bland track though lets face it. Shiny concrete wall and not a lot else. Why arent the leaks showing interesting tracks and cars :-(
Well he is the marketing boss. He cant talk about Sony's marketing because for the past year, Kevin Butler has totally overshadowed microsoft's core advertising strategies. Doesnt want to remind HIS bosses why he didnt come up with something as amusing. Maybe he'll get fired soon. Lol
Microsoft are extremely strict when it comes to xbox live control and the BBC will not expose themselves to public criticism willingly for microsoft's benefit.
Microsoft exercise extremely tight control of their service ruling it with an iron fist. FF14 was supposed to be in talks, but clearly nothing has come of them nor ever will. Microsoft arent going to budge for a big name game they arent likely to budge for a video service and the BBC will not budge as the biggest...
When i first saw it i was actually pretty surprised this was allowed. I have nothing at all against violent games and the choice people make to play them, its entirely theirs and millions of lives have been lost to preserve that fundamental RIGHT of freedom.
Its just that i found myself with a bad taste in the mouth when it ended, it did seem to be glorifying violence in a way i cant really put my finger on. It just said to me- Hey! Everyone likes to go out there and murder...
Left for dead 2 poor performance with crossfire?
LOL why do you even need Crossfire for it? http://www.hardwareheaven.c...
A mere Radeon 5750 can run L4D2 2560 x 1600 8xAA 16xAF maximal details with a minimum rate over 30 frames a second and an average over 50. Its so undemanding. On 360 it runs a laughable 1280 x 720 no AA 30 f...
Welcome to real life. A good service on a used vehicle can restore the engine closer to its manufacturer rated performance. This is a proven fact.
It is possible that 6970 would have twice the performance of 6870 with twice the shaders, bus width, TMUs, ROPs etc, but i find it highly unlikely mainly because this is still 40nm here thus 6970 would need to have a die size over 500mm squared. I dont think AMD are looking to build such a large chip and i dont think it is necessary. It goes against their policy set out since the HD 3 series. Doubling 4870 to 5870 performance was possible because of the move to 40nm, doubling 5870(6870ish) pe...
Its about 15 percent faster averaged across the board actually as i predicted a few weeks ago. Other sites bear this out.
10 percent better clocks + 6 percent more pixel/texel units. The good thing is its a bit faster but a lot quieter, cooler and less power hungry.
Expect the Radeon 6970 in a couple weeks or so to be pretty damn close to this and also consume less power, less heat etc. Should be 35 percent or so quicker than a 6870 if the leaked specs ar...
Pretty much as i said on here and expected, across the board average of 15 percent faster than GTX480. This makes it the fastest single GPU card by a decent margin, and a long way ahead of the current AMD competitor, 5870. The card is just a refinement of the GTX480, but that should be seen as a good thing. Refined power consumption and thermal management as well as reduced noise. Not a bad refresh.
However in less than two weeks we should see the debut of the radeon 6970. ...
It seems while everyone is bickering about why GT shouldnt be on a massively powerful PC platform without finding a useful reason for it they forget Kazunori Yamauchi has played with the idea of bringing GT onto Pc for many years now. Sooner or later i can see him convincing sony to publish the series on PC. In several interviews he has indicated that he certainly would not be against the idea of a Pc version.
Sony would not be as easily swayed at the idea of losing basical...
Asus leaked clocks put GTX580 @ 772mhz core and 4008mhz memory. Havent seen shader clocks. However its no coincidence that the ones we know are pretty much 10 percent higher than GTX480, so an educated guess for shader clocks would be around 1550mhz. With 512 shaders and 64TMUs then GTX580 would be around 15 percent faster than GTX480.

Have no fear, he'll have enough done in time for chrimbo
1) They dont. They state that their LOD system does what LOD has been doing for years, swapping varying meshes out the further away scenery/characters/whatever gets. This is the aforementioned ''proprietary mesh tessellation/REDUCTION scheme''
2) In the instance of hardware tesselation you are trying to compare this to, its all about generating and adding geometry with a programmable tesselator- NOT swapping meshes and reducing it incrementally as with LOD. ...
