PSP2 was almost certainly delayed from an early launch next year to further back because nvidia seriously stuffed up Tegra 2, the GPU mean to power the machine. Word on the street is Tegra 2 only delivers the promised performance by being a pretty enormous 20 percent over the power budget. Massively important for a handheld device. This of course creates more heat and destroys battery life. Apparently Sony are ultra pissed at nvidia for missing spec so much and causing a delay that allows 3DS...

Can GTX580 beat GTX480 by 20 percent? Unlikely. With all 512 shaders and 64 TMUs enabled at the same clocks as GTX480, at best thats less than 7 percent more pixel/texture fillrate. Clockspeeds would have to improve quite significantly in order to sustain a realistic 20 percent improvement.

Even with much better binning and fixed architecture on TSMC 40nm it isnt likely to be able to match a radeon 6970, let alone compete with a 6990. Such is the die size and added difficul...

Even without tesselation it has a lot of geometry. Good. Its about time some multiplat games started using the PC performance available to them. More resolution and better framerate is good, but it should be more, there should be better geometry and textures at every turn.

Traditionally Pc games used to have different geometry levels, and massively higher than the consoles of the time. Three years ago crysis could peak over 3 million polygons per frame, nothing can realisti...

All the methods i mentioned are Anti aliasing, their goal being to reduce stair stepped edges or aliasing in games by sampling the pixels around them. Then altering the colour of a pixel or pixels between boundaries of polygon edges, although MLAA is a full scene effect which means its NOT restricted to just polygon edges. It'll anti alias the whole scene.....

Its not impossible for it to distinguish where smoothing should be applied as it isnt added earlier in the rend...

6870's die size is a mere 255mm squared, versus 5870 which was 334mm. Although its clock speed is 6 percent higher, it is 31 percent smaller for a loss of about 5-10 percent performance against 5870. Impressive.

Which means that if the rumours are true about 6970 being approx 380mm squared with the new architecture (15 percent bigger than 5870), it should be a good 30 percent faster at the same clocks, conservatively.

For most games that would make a ...

It is slower, but not a lot slower. The point being it retails in the uk for 100 pounds- ONE HUNDRED less than 5870 was retailing at last week, for 5-10 percent less performance. That means it has an excellent price/performance ratio, now alongside the Nvidia GTX470 for the 180-200 pound market.

Although most people would be in the market for one of these, enthusiasts look to uber high end stuff, which we are waiting with bated breath for their release next month. After see...

Worst techniques? Dont be silly. Considering that MLAA should work with game engines that do not support MSAA or have trouble with it because of deferred render techniques, its just another weapon in the armory for PC gamers. Dead space looks massively better with it, and GTA4 does too.

The only way to get functioning AA on games like that involve Super Sampling, which is ridiculously costly only the very fastest cards and insanely expensive machines can afford to apply it....

Destructoid just dont know whether they want to be a serious gaming website with genuine reviews, or a 'joke' site with pseudo comedy reviews by sterling that no one should take remotely seriously.

I would rather just avoid the site entirely

''Why? Because it's on your precious "superior pc lolz best way 2 play"?''

What on earth are you banging on about? I think you are incredibly rude and obnoxious for absolutely NO reason. Disgusting, please stop being so immature.

The Pc version has glitches and bugs same as all the rest, although it has a patch to iron out a lot of the scripting problems and major game breaking bugs i dont believe the consoles have recieved y...

EDGE didnt even like Fallout 3 much, i believe they gave it a 7. It was worth more than a 7.

This is worth more than a 6.

If the uk prices are right, these are suhhweeeeet and will dominate mainstream sales, force significant nvidia price cuts. Ebuyer listed a 6850 for 133 pounds and a 6870 for 176 pounds.

HardForums have got grabs of most of the review, decent range of games tested and several DX11 titles, BF:BC2, CMR dirt 2, Metro 2033.

Short story- 6850 beats out GTX 460 1Gb by a small increment fairly consistantly. 6870 equals or betters GTX470 in said tests.

AMD have some good parts here. Ignore the naming scheme change, these cards will make AMD money and lots of it, versus the pittance nvidia make on the massive GTX4 series that have had major yield problems. This is still business after all, nvidia can match the performance but cant match the price AMD can sell these chips at while still making a healthy margin.

The stat of note is that 6870 will be faster than 5850 and not too far from a 5870, yet its die size is a mere 255...

They must use blind testers or something. I know the economy problems hit everyone hard, but you cant pick up cheap testing labour from the queue outside the nearest optician.

A GPU like RSX is a fairly drop in component. Im not saying they just knocked it out and bunged it in quick, im saying that it was chosen because it was an existing complete design and easy option when the initial plan failed. Sony did not have much say in the design of the chip, because its not a custom design intended only for PS3, unlike Xenos and 360.

As for the theory that RSX is there to assist the CPU, thats a bit of an ass backward way to design a games machine. The...

What annoyed me most about the Pc version of fallout 3 was that the DLC broke the game, i was amazed first time i paid and downloaded broken steel to find that in fact, i would have to wait another week for a bloody patch to play the DLC i just paid for. That was gobsmacking.

All these problems make an otherwise great game terribly frustrating. there is no possible way testers could miss these problems, especially so called professional testers. The only answer is that thei...

''Why is this surprising, that "to match that" one would need to use the all of the PS3, not just a part of it?''

Only surprising if you are unaware of RSX being a crippled NV47 and slower than Xenos. Which i outlined. Which it is.

Its not a myth sony had greater plans for CELL design, it cost them 2 billion dollars to develop. CELL is after all, a scalable design, purposefully so. Being able to break down CELL into component par...

Take the comment in the context it was expressed.

''RSX is a weak link in the machine compared directly to xenos in 360, its just up to developers to squeeze CELL for the extra performance. Only developers determined to learn how to programme PS3 efficiently are capable of this.''

Was the full paragraph. Meaning in order to just MATCH multiplatform game code on 360, CELL has to be exploited heavily, and ''determined developers'...

Nvidia were drafted in relatively late on in PS3's design to bring a GPU to the party after sony realised use of another CELL as a GPU was not going to be sufficient. Rather than build a custom solution like Ati did for microsoft, they took an existing GPU design and shoehorned it into PS3. Problem was they didnt preserve its full specs either, castrating the memory bus and ROP count assumedly to improve the yields of the chip and reduce costs.

Although it is a split pi...

Im due a new GPU in the next couple months, either a radeon 6970 or a GTX580.

However even with venerable old 8800GT SLI, 70FPS+ is no problem 1920 x 1080 maximal settings 4 x AA vsync off. Rarely drops below 60 frames with vsync enabled, on a full race day with a lot of rain, part of the track with a lot of geometry and a whole bunch of cars in front of me (doesnt happen too often heh) kicking up stuff i still never seen worse than 40 frames a second. Even then it wont las...

The engine is quite well multithreaded. Core i7 (quad) and a lone 8800GT manages 40FPS 1680 x 1050 max settings 4 x MSAA. Your GPU is rather mismatched with only a core 2 duo.

Time to go quad.
