Thanks for clarifying Nitrowolf!
I could be wrong on this. I am legitimately trying to understand. Wasn't it 4K30fps with Raytracing? This is speculation, but could it be 4K60fps with no Raytracing and 4K30fps with Raytracing in a fidelity like mode? Similar to how Miles Morales and Ratchet have 3 choices of modes. Also agree that performance mode will likely come with with a loss in fidelity including probably no Raytracing.
Very nice well written history lesson Venom. I enjoyed the read!
Are they really anticipating that consumers are going to purchase this at $300 at any significant volume? Are gamers really pining to play Atari games in 4K?
You are 100% correct, but we are entering a new generation. Developers and new game engines will cut the cost of these items over time. Just as they do every generation. It almost borders on shocking what developers are able to achieve by the end of a generation when comparing it to the beginning. It blows my mind that the base PS4 can run games like GoT and FF7 Remake at 1080p and a stable 30. The improvements will definitely take some time though.
To be clear, I am still ...
I am glad they are changing up the box art to be more clear for consumers and to help distinguish the generation a bit. I hope they indicate Series X on the spine as well. The XOne and Series X games currently blend together on my shelf and since I have all of my games separated by console generations, there is no way for me to distinguish by looking at the color or spine art.
Well said. You sort of touched on this, but I expect new game engines from developers this gen will help as well. For example, the developers of Unreal engine are stating that Unreal 5 will cut the cost of native 4k to be equivalent with the current cost of 1080p. The late gen releases will most likely be a significant upgrade in what can be done over early gen releases. As is typical through the life of consoles.
When and if the Pro versions of the consoles are released. Although I expect it will be a number of years. Especially considering this has been the hardest early adopt due to chip shortages and scalpers.
My bones are ready for the upgrade. Love this game!
I put in my pre-order last week and am finishing up the PS4 remake that came with the PS+ collection. Very excited for this launch!
I would also expect the average price per unit or revenue earned per unit will higher for Sony since their two sku's are $400 (digital) and $500 (disk version) while the Xbox sku's are $300 (Series S) and $500 (Series X).
Yeah personal preferences and opinions on products or how one prefers to enjoy hobbies such as video games are pretty dumb. You got me I am a big dumb dummy.
I would agree if all Sony exclusives were available on PC. Not trying to have a pissing match with you, but in my opinion Sony first party studios have produced some of the best single player experiences to date. I believe PC is the best place to play multiplayer (less cheaters), Xbox games, and single player games like Witcher 3 that are not Sony exclusives. Especially with the modding community.
Hope they don’t apologize to Xi Jinping. I know he doesn’t like criticism because he thinks it makes him look week but can grow thinker skin.
How is my Don Mattrick "connectivity" quote inappropriate? His quote is 8 years old and he isn't even with the company anymore. All this time later is it offensive to anybody besides Don Mattrick himself when joked about? This is a quote that will always be a part of gaming history and what the OP wrote reminded me of it. That's all.
How does the Jim Ryan "generations" quote not get censored and this quote does. And no I do not think Jim Ryan'...
No this is not the case at all. You get the DLC (extra summons, etc.) that came with the original PS4 Deluxe addition for free via an items pack download when you upgrade to the PS5 version. The Yuffie DLC will cost extra.
It is in my top 5 games of gen 8. I had a lot of fun playing it, and despite getting a lot of praise I think it is actually pretty underrated.
While the author makes some great points and gives some opinions I can really identify with as I age, I feel a portion of the problem is his gaming platform of choice. If the author prefers the single player "loner" experience then Xbox and PC is probably not going to be where they get an experience tailored for them. Based on the complaints in the article, Sony's single player experiences would seem to fit their lifestyle a bit better.
One of the positives of the Series X is that it automatically recognizes whether your device is capable of Dolby Vision or 120hz, etc. You really don't have to go in an calibrate many of the things the author is talking about as the system just does it for you in most cases. It is a really well-built machine. It just needs new high quality next-gen games to really make it great.
Who is upset about Xbox exclusives? I hope Microsoft is pushed to be better this gen. Competition elevates the gaming experience for everyone.
