I get the feeling the writer of this article is unfamiliar with game development or at least has not kept up with the current events for Nintendo. Sakurai only started working on Smash Bros. a month or two ago; there's no way in hell he has video footage of either version of the latest one.
Even if you were the one running Nintendo, you can only demand so much. That said it would be pretty cool to see what the game would look like in motion.
Quality of development > how pretty it looks. There's a reason why I praise Source more than Unreal.
Not saying this'll be bad, but I'd prefer to see this engine in motion.
@kratos123
Actually all we knew about the Wii was that it was a motion control based gaming console and later on we found out the graphics would not be a step up from the previous generation.
And there were, contrary to popular belief, good, if not great games on the Wii. And I do mean core titles like Metroid Prime trilogy, Muramasa Demon Blade and Zelda Skyward Sword.
Beyond that it's a matter of taste and based on your name and comment...
Based on what? Retro Studios has not let anyone down before. I doubt they'd start now.
As for the other rumors, I love that people will take negative rumors at face value and dismiss positive ones as wishful thinking.
@kratos123
Because Nintendo developed Red Steel and not Ubisoft, right? What about Red Steel 2 which was actually a really good game?
Also what is the Move and Kinect? Your comment fails.
jetlian, are you trolling? Epic has gone on record to say they actually do like the Wii U.
Here's an interview with Mark Rein. http://www.xbitlabs.com/new...
Here's another saying that Epic expects Wii U at E3 to "shock" audiences. 5145d ago 8 agree4 disagreeView comment
Seems like a small issue to me, but that's just my opinion.
You've made similar comments in two or three other articles now. I understand why region locking is not a good thing, but why do you see it as a make-or-break for a game console?
What about the consoles other features? There's more to a game console than just what region it's locked to.
Why is that the same excuse from everyone who has a problem with the touch screen?
The touch screen can also be a visual window into your game world. Did you ever see any of the demonstrations at E3 or CES? The possibilities are promising to say the least.
You can also play your game on the screen. I dunno about you, but that's a neat feature in my opinion.
The U-pad is no more gimmicky than the PS3 controller.
It's basically a regular controller but with a touch-screen in the middle, a headphone jack and a gyroscope. They're GIVING you more functionality on a controller that can otherwise play just about any traditional game you've played in the last decade.
Also the Wii U is compatible to the Wii's accessories, including the Classic Controller.
Not really. It's notoriously easy to develop on Wii U devkits, remember? Maybe Nintendo managed to find a way to make HD gaming easy and cheap to develop games for.
Activision has already gone on record in support of the Wii U. Capcom, well who knows. Though they've been very supportive of Nintendo platforms even since the Gamecube.
@BitbyDeath
If you read my comment, I never said anything about the term casual being a negative one. I just don't personally view Mario as a casual game.
I see casual game as a very short term "mini-arcade" type of experience. Something along the lines of Angry Birds or Wii Sports; a mini-game game type of design.
Mario is a longterm adventure/platformer that requires more than the press of a single button or single swing of th...
Sounds similar to Nintendo Direct. Good way to reach out to your audience, I suppose.
Because one review by the likes of IGN determines the quality of a game, right?
Since when is Mario casual? I thought Wii Sports and Carnival Games were casual.
Not sure what the disagrees are for. The Galaxy and Zelda games on Wii are great games to say the least. They're easier, yes but I mostly think that's to compliment the motion controls.
Really sad to see people actually complaining about this.
Unless you're criticizing them for being late, I really don't see what's so bad about this announcement.
Weren't you saying how terrible Nintendo was about two articles ago?
Not that I disagree with your comment or anything, but I am curious as to where exactly you stand as far as your opinion of Nintendo goes.
@ThePsychoGamer
Aside from import shops (which are far and few in between) what import source can you name that actually gives money to the publisher? eBay sure as hell doesn't; and plenty of imports are purchased from there.
Your money goes to the seller on eBay and none of that goes to the publisher. It may as well be a used game purchase which, again, does not at all go to the publisher.
Finally, I'm not defending region locking at...
UE4 support for Wii U is currently unconfirmed, but Epic Games have gone on record to say they like the platform. It's also rumored that Nintendo tweaked the Wii U to be able to run UE4.
As to respond to your other inquiries..
-If the 3DS is any indication, they already are improving online functionality with the Wii U.
-I agree; preferably something close to the Gamecube controller, except wireless and I don't mean like the Wavebird ...
