"No, it doesn't."
Yes it does. ;)
Oh boo-hoo. On average, less than 2 in 10 people who play a game on their PC actually paid for it. And people whine about online activation. Activision isn't taking anything away from you. They're simply taking one very non-intrusive step to try to prevent piracy.
Lol@wall of text.
Once again Mahr, you're focusing on sh!tty DRM solutions from the past which I have no intention of arguing about. We all know DRM's had it's problems. That doesn't mean it can't work if done right. You can go on all day about root kits and such nonsense and you'll not hear any argument from me.
DRM needs to work and it can work without any of the probelms you listed off in those walls of text there. It's entirely possible for DRM to work much like...
When did we start drawing a line between copy protection and DRM? Digital distribution is a medium like dvd and DRM is that medium's form of copy protection. Obviously there are some serious issues that need ironing out, but if we expect PC gaming to exist in any form beyond the next 5 years, DRM needs to find a way to work.
B!tching about it and doing immature sh!t like giving games crappy ratings on amazon.com isn't going to accomplish anything. Especially when the very same pe...
Just because there hasn't been a good, working DRM solution yet doesn't mean the concept isn't solid. You guys just want an excuse to pirate the sh!t out of whatever you want without having to take the extra step of looking for a crack.
Boo hoo, go pirate some more games.
Edit: And who gives a f**k about PR. 2DBoy did the good thing here and released their game without DRM and what do they have to show for it? Insane piracy rates and lackluster sales.

@mashedbuttons: I get that, but upon seeing numbers like this I can kind of understand why publishers want a working DRM system. Just because DRM doesn't tend to work very well doesn't necessarily mean that the whole concept of DRM is useless.
Here's a case where gamers get exactly what they want and they go and steal the game anyway. If that's the way it's going to be, we'll lose PC games entirely before long.
Given the choice between no games at all and games with ...
I don't understand how this proves DRM is useless. If anything I think it makes a strong argument in favor of DRM. World of Goo shipped DRM free, remember?
What's with the hate for Treyarch, man? COD3 was the worst COD so far, but it was far from terrible and they did throw it together in well under a year thanks to pressure from their publisher.
Other than that they seem like a solid enough dev house. Their Spiderman games were about as good as movie license games can get and their new COD game is a huge improvement over COD3.
In Treyarch I see a dev house with a bad rep because of some bad luck they had with licensing...
That's all well an good for the PS3, and I do like to see it succeed, but by the end of 2007, if I'm not mistaken, the PS3 had only been out for one year. It makes sense that, that having been out for over 2 years now it should have at least twice as many quality games. All this news is saying is that we had just as many new quality titles this year as we did last year.
Why's everyone always so eager to "confirm" things?
This is great news since I'm enjoying the hell out of the beta. Any idea what the patch does?
Dude, the Bloodysinner is anything but a PS3 fanboy. Seriously.
That's so true. I got into the R2 beta without Qore or a pre-order. I definitely know a few people who bought Qore who don't have an invite yet. At this late stage I'd say it seems likely that they won't be getting one.
I'd say it seems more like proof that it won't come this year. *Maybe* in late December. They're trying to cover up the fact that they've missed another "proposed release" date by pretending like we're supposed to be excited about a beta we have to pay for.
Last I heard we were supposed to have Home on November 5th. Prior to that it was supposed to be some time in October. I guess it's best to launch a completely finished product than risk the bad pr from a shaky launc...
Okay, so some guy who knows a lot about this stuff used a capture card or whatever to figure out the actual resolutions. Great. Here's my question. If we can't just tell with the naked eye, then does it really even matter?
Uh noes. I'm still not done downloading the beta. That means when it's done I'll have another update to download.
I liked Joust. It's no Pac man or Tetris, but I'd rate it up there with Space Invaders and Missile Command.
That's not even an article. It's just some pictures of games. Not to mention most of them suck hard. Did they just do a quick search for PSN games on google images and post the first ten results in order?
Hooray for multi-media center pieces, but this update seems to have broken the streaming system. Everything's all choppy when I stream from my PC now.
Looks smexy. I don't agree at all that Oblivion was a piece of s**t. It did absolutely pale in comparison to the awesomeness that was Morrowind, but that didn't make it a bad game. Morrowind was just *that* good that almost anything looks poor in comparison.
