Yeah the Laguna stuff blew my mind.
But he was like The Joker after The Joker became awesome (i.e. blowing peoples minds as well as the box office up). I also don't like the standard Empire vs. Rebels story (literally FFXII) but VI had some amazing scenes, character development, and layers to its plot. IX also had the layers and development and scenes though. That and the story artistically comes full circle, which I love. That game really stretched across every theme, genre, and subject that FF has to offer.
Even with the lack of character development, wholly unexplored characters, and generic imperialist villain controlled by generic omnipotent entity. I can look past the battle system that fights for itself, the lack of npcs that can be communicated with, and the lack of sidequests, but the characters and story are some of the worst I've seen. The huge lack of FMVs was also disheartening. I think that X deserves to be higher on everyone's list despite its linearity.

It's one of my least favourites like 2, but I think it deserved to be higher on the list. It's really unorthodox but I enjoyed it almost as much as 7 and 9. I would have placed 12 and 13 all a bit lower and 1 and 8 a bit higher. 3, while pretty solid, almost felt like it was lacking a soul and I would consider putting that one lower as well.
12 and 13 especially are perfect examples of how to take a compelling world and do absolutely nothing with it. The stories both...
For me FFVII almost had a great story and then about 3/4's of the way through it just became convoluted and destroyed its potential. That and the characters outside of Cloud weren't all that fleshed out. FFIX did dialogue and character development best I think. VI was amazing for its story and scope (especially for its time). It also had the best villain. Sephiroth looks cooler than Kefka and gives you the illusion of something philosophically meaningful, but he's no different fro...
I think people are just disappointed in the technical leap from last generation to this one. In a perfect world PS4 would have launched at $500 with slightly better specs and would play everything at 1080p, but they knew they were going to get undercut by the competition with that approach. It's a shame but I think the graphical leap will be amazing over the next two years anyway. Just playing FC4 and going back to FC3 is really eye-opening. FC3 looks like a pixelated deuce now.
It's partially open-world. I'm not holding my breath for a high resolution. It looks amazing and not even in the smoke-and-mirrors way that XIII looked amazing. It's actually a whole beautiful world that can be zoomed in on and undergoes drastic light changes through day/night cycles.
What I'm really concerned about is the story and gameplay. We haven't really had too much indication of how fun and strategic the game will be or which direction the story i...
I would have honestly been happier with a higher res XMB. That UI was the man. There's a reason the 360 copied the style halfway through the generation while snatching Avatars from Nintendo.
The bubbles are okay, but it feels too basic. Everything is all fragmented and I have almost no motivation to open up music/video like I did on my PSP. The same could be said for PS4 and X1. I'm not sure who thought it was better to head in the app-based direction. It's bette...
*Makes fart noise*
I just came here to try to understand the heat level on this. I enjoyed the game thoroughly, but I don't get how people can be consumed by a single FPS for so long. I was completely done with the game after three weeks of addiction and have no motivation to go back. It's not like they ever add enough content to justify staying with an FPS. And it's terribly overpriced content for this game specifically. Will wait for a sequel.
I'm sure they'll continue to branch out to other pronouns. Perhaps they will further misspell the ones they've already used if they run out of ideas.
Kind of an odd discrepancy but every critic says this is the first FF they enjoyed in a long time, yet XII and XIII did much better critically (I will never understand why). I guess it's hard to escape a handheld background. Even Peacewalker and the portable GoWs, which were fantastic, got a solid amount of flack when they made it to PS3.
You need to play Isaac and First Light. Those games are amazing (First Light was more fun than Second Son and Isaac is one of the most addictive and unusual twin sticks I've ever played). OlliOlli2 also is a perfect example of how to nail the retro approach in the modern age. Great music, gameplay, and sense of progression with a 2D Skate/Tony Hawk feel.
I still have to beat Transistor. It's pretty sweet although I wish there was more explanation for the combat and wh...
Hopefully E3 addresses this. If we get an exclusive from one of the teams that hasn't revealed much or even an Uncharted Remastered trilogy in addition to all the games we already know about, things will be good.
I have Killzone, Infamous, LBP3, and soon Bloodborne. So far KZ is my least favourite (huge fan of KZ2), but it's still a great game and the graphics are ridiculous. Ratchet, U4, Persona, and Disgaea will be mine soon though.
Yes I remember the first gigantic exclusive on PS3 was MGS4. Uncharted and Ratchet were big but were not quite on the same 90+ level. MGS4 came out halfway through 2008. PS3 launched at the end of 2006. That's a little over a year and a half. PS4 has been out under a year and a half. PS4 and X1 have yet to see a game of this caliber (exclusive or otherwise). Bloodborne is incoming and is one more chance for PS4 to have a critical darling. If not, we will see it happen later with U4. X1...
Mostly mediocre reviews so far with complaints toward the camera, graphics, environments, and story. I'm still interested in it but I'm glad I decided not to pay full price from the outset.
Three words. Yes.
I-dole-ons! lol... Looks better than the last six or so FFs. The HD graphics are better than I remember too. Still not buying at full price though and a demo won't change that.
They already showed how you can stand near windows and hear random stowaways talking and how their dialogue gives you more insight into the game/story. That is just one of the ways they can remedy the issue you speak of.
The Wii U is the next Gamecube for sure. It is a pretty amazing system that just hasn't seen widespread adoption. I chalk this up to a lot of people having moved to PS and Xbox over the years and not being able to afford two systems in terms of money and time. The Wii was huge only because of its motion controls being a novelty and sky-rocketing it into fad-status like an apple product. I feel like Nintendo's home consoles will continue down this road unless they stumble across anothe...
