Most Japanese people don't pledge allegiance to products based on their national origin. The huge hit that is the ipod should be good enough evidence. They do base alot of their purchasing decisions based on past experience, popularity, and dependibility. And how is that any different than the U.S. consumer? Ask the average U.S. consumer which brand of cars are the most dependable and represent the best value, and I guarantee you that they will list Japanese manufacturers above U.S. manufac...

Not to get off topic or anything but...what do you mean you guys hate Japanese "style" games? Wouldn't that pretty much include 85% of all RPGs and adventure games? Remember (I'm not sure if you're old enough) games like Strider, Ninja Gaiden, Double Dragon, Ikari Warriors, Mega Man, Bionic Commando, Kid Ikirus, Super Mario, Zelda, and the list goes on...I imagine those games would also fall under the Japanese "style" games, no? If you're just refering to RPGs, then plea...

needs a different title to appeal to the Japanese...like "Godzilla and Me" or "Godzilla: The Adolescent Years".
On a serious note, these pics could very well be outdated. The Japanese are not as graphically judgemental as the U.S./European audience tends to be. Hence their love and loyalty for RPGs with N64 caliber graphics.

as long as Sony is not in charge of the power source (i.e. batteries) for this supercomputer.

Hopefully this upgrade and the fast approaching PS3 launch dates (sorry Europe) will be enough to curb the very stale and repetetive flame-wars that were rampant on this site. Again, good job!

is fairly new, but not as new as most would belive. http://www.pcworld.com/arti...
This news article shows that, not only was a BR player in the works since 2002, they actually had a HD recorder using BR technology on the consumer market since 2003 (Japan only). The laser tech mentioned in the article, should in theory, be the same as the ones that will be used in the PS3.

You're from N.Y.. You must be proud! I can only dream about living in a fine place such as Brooklyn. It has so much to offer...too bad that education doesn't seem to be one of them.

This means nothing unless a talented team of developers know how to use this engine and the pc/console's power to its full extent. Let's hope they do and are able to show some footage with more than just simple characters and backdrops. I want full immerssion.

if you click on the pic showing the numbers, the PS3 is clocked at 4.2ms vs. the triple core pc's time of 4.6ms. I think the shorter time represents a faster running time. And your statement would be based on all pc cores being equal? I'm not even sure if a "triple core" pc is the same as a multi-core system like the 360. I really comes down to how the pc/console makes use of the processing power/speed. I don't think any of this is relevant to making good games though. Just my opin...

what happened? Little Timmy not get enough sleep? Or maybe mommy sent you to your room?
Joking aside, the point of my post was that certain fanboys (you know who you are...hint: TheMart) argue about what the average consumer needs and doesn't need, and I don't think that a product should be limited in design based on one, albeit large, target group. For $500/$600 a console, why not appeal also to those of us that actually have the money to buy the high-end gear to make the most of...

I have to give Sony credit for trying to make the PS3 "future-proof". Yeah, so what if the masses will only be adopting 720p capable tvs (and that you're too poor to afford a 1080p tv)? I'm not in that group, I can afford (and currently own a 72" 1080p DLP $3999) a 1080p tv and 7.1 surround system. It's not like Sony built the PS3 to only output in 1080p, so if you can't afford a $4000 tv, don't get one. It comes down to choice. Sony gave me a choice of going the 720p route or ...

Just when I was giving up on going 7.1 surround (not too many movies/DVDs support 7.1), comes PS3 to the rescue. Yay!!! Better start cleaning out my ears soon....

I completely agree. The 360 has to compete with the PS2 as much (if not more) as with the PS3. We all know that every PS3 that comes out this year will be sold within a matter of seconds (and the same could be said about the 360), but with a library of games in the thousands, the PS2 at its price point could still out sell both systems, come this November/December. I am of course talking worldwide (you got to take into consideration those countries/peoples that are not as well off as we are.....

Longer load times!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Oh wait, that's right, the PS2 games already have significantly longer load times than the Xbox, and having both consoles, I really don't notice the difference. In fact, loading time means time to get another beer from the fridge. Woohoo!!! More drinking!!!

by making my comment on this site, I am addressing the so-called "hardcore" gamers. I mean, 90% of the people that post comments on this site claim to be "hardcore" and wear that title as a badge of honor. I consider myself to be a gamer through and through (hardcore? not quite, don't have the time to be playing games all the time), I just happened to be blessed with a very successful business. I understand that most people (the masses) are on a tighter budget than me, bu...

more than 5 months to save for a PS3. In order to save $700 in 5 months, you need to save $140/month, $4.67/day. I don't want to sound like one of those charity organizations but, that's about what people spend at Starbucks for a cup of coffee (including tax). Do you think you could save $5.00 a day? If not, I recommend that you find a higher paying job, maybe serving food at a Denny's or something. Good luck.

Seriously, if you can't afford it, don't buy it. Stop b!tchin and complaining about the price. I have many part-time employees (college students) that are paying rent, making car payments, and paying for school, and yet they are able to save enough to buy $300 ipods, $200 cell phones (hella nicer than mine) every 6 months, and nice laptops. They on average net about $350/week. I'm sure a couple of them are getting a little help from mom and dad but I know for a fact that most are not. If th...

It will be able to grill steaks and hamburgers!!! You rock Sony!!!
But seriously, since the article says that it is coming from "left field" and it is also good news, I'm going to have to guess that they either worked it out with Immersion and put rumble back in OR they developed a rumble tech "on their own" that will force Immmersion to take it apart to look into (buy some time) so they can delay getting sued until sometime next year, where they will delay the fi...

only if it is an imporvement over the existing design. And I have to say that the PS2 controller is one of the best controllers (even 3rd party included) I have ever held. Logitech's designs are always a touch better but since I am so accustomed to how the PS2 controller is layed-out (and the fact that getting older means it's getting harder to learn new tricks), I am very happy with Sony's decision. I can't imagine adding any more buttons or sticks, so motion-sensing seems to be the next log...
