"Well Sony never made one format a succes"
That would be an incorrect statement. The camcorder tapes (Video8), 3.5" Floppy disks, and DVD (Sony, Phillips, and Toshiba) would all be considered successes. Even the MD disks were very popular in Asia (though they flopped elsewhere), popular enough to actually net a profit. As for the DVD, when it was introduced in 1997, it only sold 300 or so million. That is, until the PS2 came out in 2000, when sales of DVDs rose to an a...

Excuse my ignorance...but what kind of game is Trusty Bell? The name reminds me of another soon to be "sure-fire" hit called Viva Pinata.

about that dating analogy...not that I would personally know anything about that kind of situation....but there's this kid that I know....his name's Billy, and it's so pathetic...haha....

how many gigs did the previous generation consoles require? I'm not asking to be an ass, I just don't remember what was once stated before...I just remebmer that it was nowhere near a gig of space. Why do you think that the next generation consoles won't require that kind of jump? I know that cost is prohibiting many developers from making games any bigger, but there has to be middleware and other programs/software that will take a load off of the developing costs...well I hope so anyways. ...

Who in their right mind would put a supercharged V10 in a Mazda Miata? First of all, all that power would go to waste (tires would just spin and spin), the trasmission would drop faster than Paris Hilton's second album, the car would handle like sh!t for the couple seconds it actually did run, etc. We are talking 2 completely different machines here. It might have not been such a big jump for the Xbox-----Xbox 360, but for Sony, it is a huge jump in technology. And as half-assed as my analo...

The Japanese gaming market is definitely not sinking. I would say it is shifting, but in no ways sinking. The only problem the Japanese developers have run into, is the loss of sales to used games (money they will never see). Used games in the U.S. will run $5 cheaper for the first couple months of its release, then drop to $10 off by its 3rd month and so on. Whilst in Japan, the same discounts are applied within a matter of weeks. That may be due to several different factors: the quality ...

this game looks good. More of a fan of the SOCOM series though...I like the idea of a shooter being realistic (slower moving, using cover-fire, only being able to take a couple shots before death, etc.)

EA isn't that bad....(thinking of a follow-up statment).....(still thinking)......(kind of given up).....(totally given up). Yeah.

The Japanese developers probably akin making their brand of games for the 360 to trying to sell a 7 course meal at a football game, when we all know that the football fans just want some hotdogs and beer. Ok, so that wasn't such a good analogy...but you get what I'm saying, right? Why develop a game with a certain style (good/weird/quirky story that is a bit heavy on the melodrama) to a bunch of gamers that proved in the last generation of Xbox, only wanted FPS', sports games, and the ultra...

you seriously need to stop asking "who here has a 1080p tv?" in your argument to try and downplay the significance of Sony trying to get a couple games playing at that resolution, because I will always be here to say "I do", and I'm probably one of the few working adult gamers to even visit this site.

is whether, over the next 3-5 years, there will ever be a need for games to use more than 7.5 gigs? I'm gonna have to go with a resounding yes myself. And I'm not talking 3 hours of HD movie cutscenes either. Then again, I am a sucker for those special edition games that include the prequels from older generation systems and general backround storylines. Not that those types of things couldn't go on a seperate DVD...but I still believe firmly that in the next 3 years or so the games/gameplay ...

we're missing the small print that says "Only on Xbox---exclusively on DVD". It is not a big deal either way. Not that great of a game. I figure that the U.S. consumers will only pick up the best of the best rpgs, just like the Japanese will only pick up the best of the best fps'.

Maybe if all the 360 fans write to Konami and complain about the lack of support, they might be willing to port over the Mahjong game. But seriously, I can't wait for the next-gen play of Mahjong. I wonder if they'll be able to support 60 fps and 1080p with that game...hmmmm, Mahjong, yum.

You're right...for this generation, it will matter very little. What do you think will be on the horizon, higher resolution (so high that it will burn our corneas) or possibly some sort of 3D application (which could also burn out our corneas)? I'm not sure if I could take looking at a 3D application for too long (explosions, bullets, monsters ala RFOM/GoW, etc) without becoming so dizzy or nauseous that I would puke.

That's what I was asking in an earlier post...and I have to agree with you in your translation of that particular statement. Menu screen=1080p and gameplay=720p. And to Paul Cerula, not to brag or anything, but there actually are people with 1080p native tvs that will be purchasing a PS3, so yes, we few would like to see some games take advantage of the highest resolution currently possible.

I go to a poker site that allows me to gamble with play money for free and it's not bad at all (though we all know how they actually make a profit...). There are also several other sites that allow me to game for free and they tend to be of very good quality also. I think the key to Sony's "free" online service will be the profit from micro-transactions (movies, music, games, peripherals, and other Sony products) and advertisments. Hopefully the advertisements won't be too annoyin...

Can you imagine a button mashing game as heavy on the mashing as the Samurai Warriors/Dynasty Warriors games on the Wii? Talk about shoulder/arm cramp!!! Might be good as a sort of medication/therapy for all those kids with ADHD.

The article mentions 1080p and 720p after it mentions the in-game (running) and menu visuals. Could that mean that the menu screen is 1080p and the game itself is running at 720p? Because I seriously doubt that they would run the game at a higher resolution than the menu screen...what would be the purpose of that?

aren't there games that initially launched on the 360, which are being "ported" to the PS3 with more content and better visuals? (Full Auto, Fight Night, Call of Duty???)
