You and I know what a "beta" is. The average Joe who doesn't hang out on N4G doesn't. All he knows is that this game is supposed to come out less than three weeks, but the taste test available on PSN is broken. If you don't think that costs sales, well, I don't know what to tell you.
This is extrememly disappointing because KZ3 was by far the game I was most looking forward to this year, and I hate to see it get off on the wrong foot.
This beta is a lot of fun, aside from the servers rendering it literally unplayable. I know they're calling it a "beta" as opposed to a "demo," but Guerilla is losing sales for every hour that people can't connect.
I don't hate GTA4. It was a good game. It just wasn't anywhere near as good as all the 10s suggested. It was more like a solid 8 -- definitely worth a playthrough, but with a few problems here and there (poor checkpointing, friends pestering you to play darts with them, repetitive missions).
I doubt that an 88 on metacritic is statistically different from a 91. There's some noise and randomness in reviews, so you can't sweat small differences like this.
Regardless, I'm looking forward to spending more time with the demo tonight.
Surprised to see GTA4 show up on here. It usually occupies the #1 spot on "Most Overhyped" lists.
Agreed. And some of the lower scores are from reviewers that only considered the SP campaign, when most of us are buying it for the multiplayer. If it was somehow possible to restrict the rankings to "mutliplayer only" reviews, it would be solidly in the 90s.
I disagree. Based on what I saw in the trailer, this looks like Demon's Souls 2. Yes, I know the story will be different, but the character models, combat, look, and overall gameplay seemed to be virtually identical to Demon's Souls.
And that's good. I love Demon's Souls; it's my favorite game of this generation so far. More of the same would be totally fine with me. I hope 360 fans enjoy it.
I'll be honest and say that I really wouldn't care if GG didn't even include a SP campaign in KZ3. I'll play it through once, but that's it. I'm buying this game for the multiplayer, which should keep me busy for several months.
Will. Not. Give. This. Site. Hits.
Looks exactly like what I would expect from Demon's Souls 2. I'm really looking forward to this.
I've put a little over 30 hours into this game, and I have yet to notice any frame-rate drops, except during some cutscenes (no big deal). It's almost as some of these reviewers just played the demo and wrote their review based on that.
I've also not seen a single instance of screen tearing.
"On opening the box you're greeted by a manual so sparse that you could be mistake it for one of those scraps of paper that have information on customer care lines and you wouldn't be far from it. It's a loosely stapled bunch of papers that have the dope on your warranty, the PEGI rating system and all other things most of us don't care about. All done because the publisher would like to be seen as environmentally friendly"
The author actually comp...
Victor "Goddamn" Sullivan.
I hope we see more of him in Uncharted 3 than we did in U2.
I'm 20 hours in, and you're absolutely right. I've encountered none of the framerate drops that I saw in the demo, aside from an occasional cutscene here or there. The demo did not do this game justice.
That said, there are a couple of issues with the PS3 version. In some cutscenes, the lip synching is slightly off. Not a big deal to me, but I can see how it might annoy some people. The bigger problem is the save corruption issue, but that's allegedly...
Glad they're permabanning these people. I don't play COD, but I'm looking forward to Killzone next month, and I don't want that game ruined by cheaters.
Lame article. He's right about RE5 and GTA4 being overhyped, but why that's laid at the PS3's feet is anybody's guess. His comments about ME2 make it pretty obvious that he's still butt-hurt over that game going multiplat.
The only way this could have been even more fanboyish is if he included MGS4 and Uncharted 2, but maybe the author thought that would just make it too obvious.
My experience with Bethesda games:
Oblivion: A few bugs here and there. No big deal.
Fallout 3: Quite a few bugs. Several freezes requiring a hard restart. Not bad early on, but very unstable as the game progressed.
New Vegas: Highly unstable right from the get-go. Constant hiccups, and always a threat to freeze for no apparent reason. Seriously caused me to fear for the the health of my PS3.
Somehow, Bethesda man...
I'm glad that this is getting fixed, but it's really inexcusable that this was an issue to begin with. Not to single out Bioware, but it's amazing how many games launch with major problems this gen.
"I’m not looking to take advantage of a misprint"
Uh, that's exactly what you were trying to do.
Enjoy your three bubbles while you can.
