This is a well-written and thoughtful review, but it focuses almost entirely on the SP campaign. Online multiplayer only gets mentioned in a sentence toward the very end.
I'm sure I'll play the campaign eventually, but I'm jumping straight into warzone tomorrow and plan to be there for a while.
Capcom doesn't seem like the kind of company that would shut out half of its possible user base, but it's also the kind of company that listens to money, so who knows.
Regardless, RE6 needs to be a huge upgrade over RE5 or I'm not buying it, timed exclusive or not.
Bulletstorm is obviously going to sell way better on the 360 than the PS3.
1) Gears 3 beta = 360 sales. I personally know a couple of people who are buying the game just for that beta.
2) Nothing much out for the 360 right now = 360 sales.
3) KZ3 = few PS3 sales. Why buy a hot dog when Guerilla Games is serving up filet mignon?
Edit: It will be interesting to see what kind of reviews this game gets. When a major P...
Exactly. Dead Island is supposedly going to be releasing in the same general window as Gears 3, Uncharted 3, Skyrim, etc. If it wants to have any hope of commercial success it had better start building some serious buzz. The trailer didn't show any gameplay, but it was successful for the company in that it got their game out there in front of the public.
That said, I won't be buying it.
True.
The problem is that I play video games for escapist entertainment, not to be depressed. I won't be buying Dead Island.
The problem is that lots of sites have given this game incomplete reviews, not just this one. For most people, games like KZ, COD, Gears, etc are primarily multiplayer games. Reviewing only the SP campaign is like basing your review of Dead Space 2 entirely on the online multiplayer and ignoring the SP game.
That might not matter much if these scores weren't showing up in the Metacritic score, but unfortunately they are. (Not sure about this site in particular, but I...
I honestly don't care if you can beat the SP campaign in 15 minutes. I'm going to straight to the multiplayer and I plan to be there for a few months.
If it releases in late 2011, it's going up against Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Uncharted 3, probably Twisted Metal, Gears 3, and that's just stuff I know about off the top of my head. This game is going to have to be absolutely stellar to have much commercial success against that lineup.
I can't believe Capcom would pull a stunt like this.
Oh wait, yes I can.
I would have been happy with just a port. Hats off to Guerilla for giving these a once-over in the art department.
Although I wish they would have picked Corinth Crossing over Blood Gracht.
" The game suffers frame rate issues and some minor screen tearing, as well as consistent glitches and bugs that during my run through of the game, seemed to happen every mission or so. Players may end up having to reload their gamesaves a few times before completing a mission, because of Cpt. Shepard getting stuck in some of the games geometry somehow. "
I saw some framerate drops in the cutscenes, but I never noticed a single instance of screen tearing. Maybe ...
Meh. The original Bioshock was awesome, but it's hard to capture lightning in a bottle again. I passed on Bioshock 2, and I'll wait for user reviews before I pick this one up.
This is great news. Oblivion was a spectacular game marred by a broken character leveling system and a world that leveled along with you way too strongly. Moving toward something more like FO3/FONV would be a welcome change.
I hope KZ3 sells well and moves some hardware, but this game has gotten off to an incredily rocky start with the beta. It's been five days now, and Guerilla still hasn't gotten their servers up to speed.
I know this will get a bunch of disagrees, but those of you who've been fortunate in the beta and are getting into games with no difficulty should check out the 125-page thread at Killzone.com. The online connectivity is more or less broken right now, and Gu...
@finbars -- KZ3 is definitely on my "buy" list, but yes, it's really easy for me to imagine someone deciding not to buy this game based on their experience with the semi-broken beta.
@NexGen -- I recommend you head over to Killzone.com. There is a 100+ page thread full of nothing but server-related connection issues. An inability to connect to games is an extremely widespread problem. (Or you could just read the comments in this thread).
The servers are inexcusably terrible. If you're able to connect, though, the game is great.
I'm worried that the awful beta servers are going to damage sales of this game. I'm guessing there are lots of people out there who downloaded the beta, got frustrated with the servers, and put this on their "Do Not Buy" list.
Because I'm sitting around in the office looking for ways screw around as opposed to actually working.
New Vegas was incredibly fun when you could get it to work -- better than FO3 IMO. But good lord was it buggy. It's like they did no QA at all.
I'm too busy playing games on my PS3 to worry about sales figures.
Release of the Week = Killzone 3
Release of the Weak = Bulletstorm
