343 Studios is headed up by Frank O'Conner formerly of Bungie(the snakey bald dude with the slightly odd accent) and has several former Bungie staff on board that also worked on Halo. It shouldn't be much of a problem to get the Halo series back on track after Bungie finishes with Reach.
MS has prepared well for this what with Bungie going independent way back in 2007.
Bungie are on the "multiplatform side". They want money, not the misguided fickle friendship gestures of silly people who pointlessly choose sides in a console war.

MS owns the Halo IP, not Bungie, and MS have already set up a studio called 343 Studios made up of people who left Bungie (including Frank O'Conner) to supervise development of Halo games and other products like novels, animation, music, candy, underwear, pet-beds, models, toys, hubcaps, movies, and snuggies. So it'll all be okay. MS still gets exclusive Halo games.

Yup, I look forward to hearing more about the new Bungie game, and I think 343 will do okay with supervising the creation of the next iteration of the the Halo series. The only thing about this that worries me is the Activision angle (given the IW kerfuffle) but so far it's just a publishing agreement so there's probably nothing too scary about it.

The BIG news is that Bungie went with Activision to publish and they did it for 10 years. That's big news because:

I doubt Bungie will be doing Call of Duty. They said that they have a new IP to work on. Presumbly Activision will be publishing that and any 'side games' they do (like Bizarre Creation's Geometry Wars, assuming they do any).
Nope. Activision will have nothing to do with Halo. MS owns Halo and hired Frank O'Conner from Bungie to run their 343 Industries to manage the Halo brand and Halo development for MS. Bungie is leaving Halo (for the time being, though there is no reason they couldn't do it as a third party after the 10 years are up).
This is just a publishing contract BTW. Activision is not buying Bungie.

I'm getting Super MArio Galaxy 2. Amazon has a deal where you get $20 credit for ordering it. I might spend that on Lost Planet 2 or something else, or just use it to preorder Halo Reach for $40 and get another $20 credit in September for THAT. Or I may put that $20 on Transformers: War for Cybertron(maybe kind of a risky bet).
