While you're correct about overall increase, there are different factors to take into consideration for gaming.
Stress testing something like the 3D Mark Application is not running AI, Sound..etc..
Those elements are used differently and are essentially "non-linear" like a 3D Mark stress test.
The stress test done on stage showed 29 fps vs 120 fps. Simply put, that's essentially a 1 way street type of stress test, instead of...
@DoublePlus
What are you talking about?
You said, "We don't need hockey because we have football, soccer and basketball."
That's NOT what the article is saying. The article is saying that what Team Ico was doing back in 2007 was unique for AAA...
....and that it isn't unique anymore, simply because Indies have approached design similar to where they were. They even stated in the article that Team Ico was...
That's not at all what the article is talking about, whatsoever.
Hockey, Football, Basketball are all entirely different sports. If we consider a sport to be a genre, then The Last Guardian falls into only ONE of those sports.
What the article is describing is that alot of companies are now "playing the same sport" as TLG. So TLG, aside from budget, is not going to be bringing much to the table that Indies haven't already been doing and/or c...
@hasamalaha
DX12's greatest feature isn't low level access...
...It's multi-threading.
And DX12's multi-threading capabilities are in a league all by itself. The ability for the API to designate different threads as starters is an absolutely amazing innovation.
The CPU currently is run off Core 1 or what is called Thread 0. That first core MUST initiate every instruction that's started.
@Gamer1982
That is entirely inaccurate.
Framerate is mainly affected by the CPU. The ability to open more than simply Core 1 or Thread 0 as the instruction starter means, you're looking at efficiency at roughly a 75% increase itself.
Power is one thing, efficiency is another. DX12 won't just instantly change clock speed by itself. What it will do though, is effectively take advantage of every core the way they should be.
Not me, I wouldn't want a Fable 4.
The Fable Universe seems ripe for a game like this. Dozens of heroes with different abilities and the Villain who can summon different creatures. Significantly more focused on what Fable does best compared to the nonsense they always tried to shoe-horn in.
We've had multiple Fables already and they've been progressively worse. The idea that somehow Fable 4 would remedy the whole series is stupid. Albion needs a d...
I don't think that's happening.
If you think about games with cross-play, it'd have to be a level playing field.
Fable Legends has the 4v1 approach where the Villain plays top down view, so there wouldn't be an advantage with KB/M vs Controller.
Even with Forza, driving games tend to work better with controllers anyways compared to KB/M so no loss there.
But a shooter? Not exactly evening the playing field. I ...
@Sevir and Tesdah
I understand your point, but look at the world we live in.
Do you really think people want "old stuff". I'm not trying to demean any game or anything like that, so please, don't take it like I am.
But the fact is, people want new stuff. If PS4 games streamed on PSNow, that's different. But playing older games, especially those with sequels coming out on PS4 are kind of useless.
Do you r...
MS just needs to take advantage of what it does best, FIRST. That's it. Showcase it slow, but correctly.
Not like what they did with Kinect. Where people were instantly talking about FPSs and TPS Adventure games..etc, when that device wasn't really designed to handle that.
Someone on a forum talked about board games coming to life. To me, that's the kind of stuff that does it justice. Card Games like Hearthstone where stuff is floating in front of...
It can disappoint because journalists are HOPING they're wrong about what they've played.
It doesn't matter that's it been talked down because gamers and journalists have still kept hoping for the game to turn that one corner and be great.
The hope that it'll turn out good in the end may be the achilles heel of the game. I'm predicting low 7's and the word linear being thrown around ALOT in reviews. Also, I expect journalists to th...
@lodos
I agree they should, but like I said, MS and Sony aren't really doing "console specific feature" commercials. Before XB1 launched, we saw those TV spots where the guy is saying, "Xbox On" and navigating the UI.
Those commercials aren't around anymore because they're pushing the games, not the features.
If SharePlay was a launch feature and available at the time of those commercials, then yes, they DEFINI...
To be fair, SharePlay is not exactly an easy feature to showcase in a commercial.
At a Japanese show, they had a 4 minute video trying to showcase the feature...and even then it wasn't abundantly clear. Condensing that down to a 30 second spot is not easy.
Also, you wouldn't just advertise SharePlay by itself. It'd have to be part of a larger ad, which means, you're not even giving the feature 30 seconds to advertise itself. You're really ...
There's no multiplayer in QB? Is that confirmed?
Film is an entirely different medium. It doesn't go bad in a couple years, whereas games start to look worse when newer technologies arrive.
Nobody looks at the movie Unforgiven from 1992 and says it doesn't look good.
How many games from 1992 hold up as well as that film does? Not to mention, I can take that same DVD from 15+ years ago and still play it today.
How many remasters did we get this gen so far? How much are you spending t...
@its Jeff
Last week of November is not considered starting Holiday. The reason for that is because Thanksgiving and subsequently, the next day being Black Friday, is not the same every year.
Thanksgiving doesn't have a set date. It's the 4th Thursday in November. And Holiday earnings are unchanged YoY.
Black Friday sales are a specific date. Those numbers don't change, because you're pin pointing an exact single day. But Holid...
@Tiqila
No. Holiday is BOTH November and December. The last week of November does not start the Holiday season.
Black Friday DOES NOT fall on the same day every year. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. And since Thanksgiving isn't the same day every year, Holiday earnings cannot be changed on a YoY basis.
So again, Holiday numbers are wrong. VGChartz numbers need to add up to 4.1M....and their numbers don't.
...
@Bathyj
The numbers are factually incorrect.
Sony's own press release stated 4.1M for the entire holiday. That's both November and December.
If you take 4.1M and subtract the VGChartz December number of 3.2M, you come out with 900k.
You're telling me PS4 sold 900k in all of November? It sold more than 800k in the US. That's only 100k units for the REST OF THE WORLD....for the second largest month of the year.....
WTF.....How is it 3.2M in December? Their press release says they sold 4.1M for the ENTIRE Holiday.
So, the PS4 in November sold about 840k in the US alone.
If you add 840k to 3.2M, you get close to 4.1M. That's not even including the OTHER territories for the PS4 in November.
How are these numbers accurate? Sony sold 4.1M total. VGChartz is saying that Sony sold only 900k for the entire month of November, when they sold 840k in the US by...
Mantle doesn't multi-thread the way DX12 does. It has a similar number in regards to draw calls, but utilization of multi-threading is far superior with DX12.
Mantle, from everything that's been released, still uses Thread 0 for all instructions.
To put that in laymen terms, the way multi-threading works now is, every instruction runs through the first core.
Here's a basic example. If you did something like a virus scan, open your...
Why does everyone keep talking about low-level access? DX12 isn't about low-level, metal coding access.
It's about optimization through multi-threading. If you look at the picture in the article, that has nothing to do with low-level access.
