First off, the poster was talking about 4K Video. Which wouldn't affect rendering pipelines, since obviously it's not running in real time.
Secondly, a company called Red Digital Cinema has managed to take full 4K video and compress it down to the same size as Blu-Ray, WITH EVEN LESS ARTEFACTS......Seriously.
Difference is, companies would have to pay to license their codec since it's patented by Red. But again, normal discs could easily run 4K, w...
Windows 10. Rolling out a preview program like the PC, Phones and Tablets. I think the Lumia phones just recently got a preview if they choose to download it. I don't think there's going to much else, aside from Windows 10.
@Baka-akaB
I see people all the time talking about "free advertising".
That is incorrect. Advertising puts your product in a positive light 100% of the time, because that's what they are paying for.
You're not going to see some ad firm talk about Splatoon like, "Do you rely on voice chatting with your teamates in competitive multiplayer? Well if you do, Splatoon doesn't have it, so enjoy the silence..."

This is why I laugh when I see people say 2018 for a new console. No way will everyone or at least 85-90% of the world have internet capable of streaming only.
By 2021 or 2022, that number will obviously be higher, but still *might not* be ideal. There is no way we could rush into a streaming only console in a few years, it's going to be at least another 6 years we before could.
That's why I'm kind of pissed that MS's policies had to be undone...
Cuphead not being on the list disqualifies the entire article.
The End.
I hope it does something like the Killer Instinct approach. But instead of Seasons, they do notebooks.
Like, the next "season" is the next "semester". And the notebook changes each year, with new characters added, updated versions of those characters. New environments, mix of new art with different mediums, like markers or crayons or pens..etc..
I think Drawn to Death could be so awesome if they make sure the content doesn't get stale....
PIX is already out.
Not a ton of information, aside from this.

Not the best breakdown of it, but a worthwhile read. In another article, it was stated it's based on algorithms finding the optimization for the devs. I'm curious as to how it algorithmically figures out the best scenario.
@kurruptor
Guessing? Name a single device in the world that has FULL DX12 SUPPORT as of right now. Here's a hint, it's a console.
Secondly, NOTHING from DX12 is in the XB1 already. No multi-threading using all cores. No bundling. No tier 2 or tier 3 binding.

That's a chart simply for resource binding the current leve...
@kurruptor
The XB1 will see a bigger efficiency gain than PC at first. There is no DX12 built product in the world...aside from the XB1.
When Fully DX12 Supported GPUs hit the market, then PC will see bigger gains (percentage wise) compared to the XB1.
Full DX12 is hardware level features. That is quoted in multiple documents for you to see. So again, the gains regarding percentages seen first, will be on XB1 compared to PC.
...
@Fishy Fingers
Actually that's incorrect.
Since you will be using more cores consistently, temps rise. If you were to run a game that was designed with DX11, then ported to DX12, your statement holds true.
Tablets and phones will use almost 50% less power when running a game now. But again, that's because it's taking old code and porting it up, so it's not being pushed at all.
We've already seen what DX11 ...
The best part is, it's a typical employment description for an animator. If you go to Gamasutra, you will see numerous requests for animators with almost an identical description.
Also, for the record Abriael, what you described as IK (inverse kinematics) is incorrect.
IK is when the rig automatically retargets itself based on an internal solver for the skeletal bone system.
What you described is contextual animation, which isn't actu...
To me, the funniest part about the whole DX12 debate is the devices that'll get gains from it.
It's hysterical how PCs, laptops, phones and tablets will all see performance increases...
....but Microsofts 5th product, being the XB1, somehow won't see any improvement, whatsoever.
The other ridiculous aspect is the structure of those other devices.
Laptops, phones, tablets and millions of PCs run SoC type chipsets a...
@Spotie
That's incorrect. The biggest gains in the beginning will be for hardware dedicated to DX12.
As of now, the only product that's been released with DX12 hardware features is the XB1. So if games utilize DX12 fully, which MS employees themselves have said that XB1 has FULL DX12 SUPPORT, then the gains will be biggest on that first.
When GPUs for the PC arrive with hardware level features, then PCs obviously will overtake XB1 in ...
Higher end graphics won't mean much when displays are 1080p. 99% of all displays are 1080p and only now are we moving towards 4k.
If DX12 can boost performance from 30-60 pretty easily, then the need for an ultra high end card becomes even less desirable since the extra horsepower would be for resolution, which again, is useless since most everyone runs a 1080p display.
I think card manufacturers are going to have to try and sell the whole 4k thing now, m...
It's not so much about you as a gamer, but developers are affected by this. Many publishers tie bonuses to a Metacritic score. Although I don't like the practice of it, peoples financial well beings are directly affected by this.
Bloodborne doesn't have the greatest narrative or story telling method, but it also doesn't seem to get points deducted for that.
Graphically, it isn't the prettiest game in the world and has some issues with fram...
I don't have a problem with embargoes. Although I do have a problem with launch day embargoes. Bloodborne's embargo is lifting two hours before it's available. For a game, where everyone is saying it's a slam dunk system seller, I can't imagine why reviews need to be so tight lipped.
Maybe Sony doesn't want the negativity of load times surrounding purchases? The game looks polished in almost every aspect, except loads. And maybe reviewers are going to ...
Where'd you read that? I haven't seen that stated on any websites, so where was this confirmed?
@SpaceRanger
P.T. was a demo. That's like saying any Oculus Rift demo with horror elements has also progressed the genre. And there are NUMEROUS demos with Rift Support.
Secondly, Until Dawn is a QTE game. It's basically a Tell Tale game inside a cabin. I hardly would count that in the same vein as Silent Hill or Outlast or Evil Within.
Lastly, you are seriously saying Bloodborne is a horror game? Really? It's a Souls game with a ...
Bravo sir. Totally agree.
I've never understood the point in NOT owning all the platforms...if you have the money. I see people talking about having more money and intentionally refusing to buy a certain console.
There is nothing to be proud about when you're limiting the amount of games you can play. How do you not want more of your favorite hobby? It's like someone who's a basketball fan and refuses to watch games because all the games aren&...
I hope they do the Killer Instinct approach with seasons having new characters....
...but instead of seasons, have them do "semesters" since it's a kids notebook in school.
They could launch Freshman year, then next year, put out "semester 2" being a Sophmore and update the character list and so forth.
Going F2P gives them alot of options, I just hope the pricing is correct, that's why I hope they go the KI route. ...
