@GribbleGrunger
You are joking right?
If anything, it makes the move even dumber for Sony. MS spent money to give themselves a game against a competitor.
Now, that competitor doesn't even show up, meaning the only one you could talk about, is Tomb Raider.
We all know UC4 would have beat RoTR and those games would be compared to death. And that would have hurt MS far more than making them moneyhat an exclusive.
<...
I can't see that happening, to be honest.
Aside from Bloodborne, I can't think of a single PS4 exclusive that will get a commercial.
Think about that. For the next 9 months, the only games that will hit the advertising scene on PS4, will be multiplatform games.
That's terrible. It's not even like Sony can use Morpheus commercials, since that's coming in 2016. So aside from 3rd Party deals, PS4 will have almost no presence ...
I disagree. Especially about the Indirect/Direct stuff.
The biggest takeaway I saw was the "Copy" function. That could be huge. Massive/Dramatic would fit that scenario quite well.
I'll try to explain my thinking behind this. Basically, they figured out a way to stream textures through a somewhat redundant state. If Tiled Resources can be used for mip-mapping and mega-textures, then this "Copy" approach means, it frees up the eSRAM sin...
Cuphead..........and we're done here. Seriously, that game looks absolutely astonishing. There is no game, indie or AAA that I want more than Cuphead.
Cuphead and Hunger are my two most anticipated indies. Hunger is a PS4 exclusive, so it doesn't really fit into the ID@Xbox article, but it looks amazing.
Also Zodiac, which is unfortunately a Vita game, looks incredible. I REALLY wish Zodiac comes to XB1 and PS4.
Definitely looks like it has a comfortable form factor. Probably the cleanest HMD we've seen so far. Well done Sony!
Games in the future will always blow away current or previous games. Technology advances in games are more noticeable than any other medium of entertainment.
TLOU's story is pretty average from a writing standpoint. It was the performances that really brought the game to life. Problem is, once performance capture is widely used and everyone has that level of polish, it becomes a standard.
TLOU for it's time was benchmark setting. But in the years to c...
@OB1
That's exactly the point he's making. He didn't mention it being reduced to $30 or $40, because economically more people would have understood why it's content is worth that price.
The only reason it's $60 it's because of production values and graphics. None of us told RAD to go all out on graphics. They could have scaled back the art emphasis and added more content. The budget could have been used for more than just prettiness. ...
I think this is a great idea. The fact that people on your friends list will be most likely be playing the game for free means the chances of having fun with them and enjoying the game increase tremendously.
And I think if people are having fun early, they'll probably buy some characters and want to continue leveling with friends. As long as character packs are priced similarly to Killer Instinct, I think they'll do well.
Not necessarily. Because if it's like Killer Instinct, when your character rotates back in, your skills should still be there. I play as Spinal so I bought him. But if Sabrewolf or Jago or someone comes into rotation, my fighter level stayed the same.
If they implement something like that, then you should carry over skills when they come back into rotation. I kind of hope they go the KI approach. Buy a season full of characters and have them forever and keep adding to it,...

A cold boot and load up on XB1 with Unity or even Horizon 2 takes like 3 minutes to get in the game fully with your profile loaded.
With Suspend and Resume, it takes roughly 20 seconds and you're back.
You're looking at 2 minutes PER SHUTDOWN. I often game in short intervals, 15-20 minutes here, 30 minutes there..etc. I would be wasting more than an hour of gaming every week simply on loading if it wasn't for Susp...
As gamerfan stated, it's also a pricing issue.
1886 would not have been trashed for it's content, if it was $30-40. But when you lack in content, but charge full price, you are going to hear complaints.
Same thing with Alien Isolation. Bloated game, not worth $60. They should have chopped off the junk, trimmed it down to a 10 hour experience and sold it for $40.
Solely single player experiences don't have the kind of replay needed...
@Kris
I don't own a Vita, so my apologies for sounding stupid, but do those trophies add to your PS ID offline?
In other words, if you don't sync the trophies on PS4, were they added automatically to your PS ID when you sign in to PS4? Or do you have to sync them to get a new total?
I agree with alot of your sentiments, except one.
The black bars very much affect gameplay. When you're taking cover and moving the camera, your FOV is limited because you lose the top portion of the screen. So when you swing your camera, to look around, you see nothing but a black bar instead of your surroundings.
That's one of the reasons why Third Person games do cover so well, because you can still freely see around you, but the black bars in this...
Actually they are based more on OpenCL.
OpenCL has some very good features that aren't "bloated code" like what you'll find in regards to OpenGL. And since Sony was building their own API, they most likely simplified the process and went for stronger code instead of bloated features.
In my opinion, it was a much wiser choice, but as I've never seen the full feature set of Sony's API, I can't really draw a comparison to OpenGL. <...
@MKai
No, the PS4 was not built for DX12, at all. There is not a single quote where anyone from Sony says anything regarding DX12 compatibility for their hardware.
Secondly, Albert's post was before DX12 was even announced. Do you really think MS would announce DX12 two months after launching the console and not have built it specifically with XB1 in mind? MS waited to announce it, knowing they built their console for it.
Lastly, you are ...
@KNWS
Third party will use DX12. To the extent of how many features is unknown, but they will use it.
The fact that DX12 can be ported back and forth between XB1 and PC means very little legwork for programmers. The oddball is now PS4. So unless a company is going to gimp two versions, DX12 will be used.
This article is very weird. This particular statement caught me off guard..
“In any case, I don’t think we should utilize D...
Very well constructed post. Great points all around.
The only thing I'd add is this. Games are a medium that should include design for gamers, NOT just the directors wishes.
What I mean is, games have an interactive freedom element to it, where film is mandated and stamped with no way to adapt to events on the fly.
Games aren't films and shouldn't be approached that way just because film is a beloved medium. Games can offer adapta...
LOL. Thunder and LIGHTING apparently.
Anyways, you're right about still being in the valley. There is so much subtly to someone's face that it's almost impossible to recreate it for a game.
They did a fantastic job, but it's still off. Under these LIGHTING conditions, it looks OK, but we aren't in a photoshoot type environment when playing the game.
A characters face needs to be natural under any LIGHTING condition. Not th...
Isn't MS rolling out something called Multiplayer 2015 soon?
I think Ryan McCaffrey from IGN knows about it, but can't say anything. And he said he knows the reason why the IGN app doesn't work properly or something.
He also talked about why Halo MCC isn't working properly and how it might not be 343's mistake.
I don't know, but he definitely hinted at something changing in the architecture and it improving almost ever...
And you're continuing to fanboy about nothing.
OK, do me a favor. I want you to explain to me ANY FIRST PARTY PS4 EXCLUSIVE, that will be given the full AAA marketing treatment, with TV spots and commercials and such, for this Holiday.
Just one. One.
..I'll wait.
::edit:: Are you joking? You are seriously going to comment below and avoid my question?
Answer the question. Name one PS4 Exclusive FOR THE...
