Oof. This game seems to be a mess in terms of its development.
I was also miles off on my review predictions (even after playing it) so I eat my hat on that one.
I will say that thus far I am having fun with it, it's rough in some places and not perfect but I am having fun and it is what I was expecting - but I'm also extremely biased in that judgement since I'm a huge fan of survival horror games and someone who has crazy opinions like enjoyi...
This is sort of true and sort of not. It's a confusing situation for sure - they've made a real mess of it.
Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC GamePass all have cross-platform multiplayer and cross-platform progression.
PS4 and PS5 have cross-platform multiplayer but no cross-platform progression.
Everything else (e.g. Steam, Switch etc) or any combination of PS and Xbox, or PS and PC GamePass cannot cross-play or cross-progress.

Combat so far has seemed fine for me, very much in line with a DS, RE or any other survival horror game. Challenging but not impossible.
Fair point - I just meant they never had a big, huge hitter release in the BF period like Pokemon/GoW. I don't disagree with you on the value of GP at all.

Definitely, especially for the kids. Nothing beats unboxing a new console at Christmas as a kid.

Kinda surprised that Xbox beat out PS and got within 2% of Switch, when looking at the context, PS just released GoW and Nintendo released Pokemon, while Xbox released nothing big.
It'll be interesting to see the US Black Friday results since the consoles aren't supply constrained here & Black Friday is bigger.
Comparing this to GWG, it's clear to see where the money is being spent - and this is only half of the games for the month...

Looks like the patch is already out - it needed an update immediately.
But the game is good so far, definitely feels like DS1. I expect the reviews to be overwhelmingly positive and don’t think anyone here who has pre-ordered has anything to worry about at all.

Not at all. It's still less platforms overall:
PC + PS5 + XSX + XSS = 4
PC + XSX + XSS = 3
Because they didn't have the financial backing of Xbox.
3rd party basically has to ship on as many platforms as possible to make back the $$$, unless a platform holder is willing to pay for (timed) exclusivity.
He's not saying the PS5 is bad, he's simply saying that having to develop for less target platforms/hardware is less work/easier.

Open world games are hard, and typically buggy, way too many scenarios/possibilities to test & guard against in code. I'd say the one who delivers best in this space is R*, but even they lately have had their fair share of issues.
Why? Obviously developing for less pieces of hardware will be easier.
I think if the DS remake sells well, they will make a new DS - but I agree, I don't think they have a good enough developer to make a great new DS, remaking an existing game is easier.
