Well deserved. ER is the GOAT.
Imagine Zenimax Online Studios making an online game :p
2 million VR devices sold in a month? Lol okay.
So what you’re saying is the PSVR2 in one month will sell multiples of what the PS5 does in a month? 🙄
VR is no where near that level of being mainstream.
You might be keeping this article for March, but I’m keeping this comment lol.
@Apocalypse I openly admit I’m skeptical of the ability for VR to go mainstream for gamers, that isn’t a secret - and so far I haven’t been proven wrong on that.
Also, I’ve never said I would be buying a PSVR2 - where did I say that?
But anyone expecting a hugely improved attach rate for an area that is still very much niche, has become more expensive and is launching during the economic times we are in must be living in a fantasy world - clearly the atta...
@Sully “Get involved, it's awesome!”
Might be better saying that to PlayStation gamers instead of “Xbox centric” gamers - last time I checked about 98% of PS gamers don’t care about VR and the attach rate was low.
@Apocalypse Games consoles are way more popular than VR devices - they also have a higher value proposition when you consider the amount and quality of content available. There’s no surprise that it sold well. Also the economy was way better in 2020 than it is now.
As for people preordering it - did I say it was going to sell zero? No - but it also didn’t seem to sell out. I could still use my invite right up until the last minute of the 3 day invite window.
When your addon accessory costs more than the console itself, it’s a high priced item 🤷
It’s cute that you think the vast majority of people just have $600 to sink into a hobby in one go, and if not they should just stop gaming?
Talk about detached from reality.
Yeah i would say at this point upgrading is a luxury. If you have the cash, and want to pay for a better experience overall - go for it.
But if you’re a casual gamer or strapped for cash, you’ll be able to get by on a PS4 for the time being.
I suspect we’ll start to see PS4 releases wind down in 12 months or so though.
Sony will be expecting more than that I bet - but the high price and poor economy might not help.
Most of the studios owned by Tencent, Microsoft, Sony, Embracer, EA etc are all the results of acquisitions.
Heck, Sony have acquired about 10 studios in the past 3 years, 9 of which were in the last ~12 months.
Acquisitions are a fine and healthy part of the industry.
I think it’s fine that MS are acquiring Activision in the same way that I think it’s fine that Sony acquired Bungie. Really the only company I’m against acquiring things ...
The fact that the tablet wasn’t a proper standalone handheld was the kicker for me.
Also really poorly marketed, I had to explain to basically everyone who saw my WiiU that the tablet was just a controller and not able to be played standalone or outside the house etc.
For me:
PS5: better games, better controller
Xbox: better hardware (excl controller, better subs/services, better handling of upgrades
Do you really need either though? Not just yet since we still haven’t really left last gen behind.
@Gaming Because its Jim Ryan. The same guy who said they would never come to PC, that he believed in generations and games wouldn’t come to PS4 etc.
He’s now saying they won’t come until a year after release - so that likely means they will start coming day 1 soon enough.
Sony aren’t wrong in bringing their games to PC though - it’s a huge market to skip on, and games are getting more and more expensive to make.
Tencent, Sony, Embracer - take your pick.
No difference between buying 2 big publishers and buying 20 smaller studios/publishers. All adds up to the same amount of studios/content at the end of the day.
Imagine that... they had a good opportunity here to reboot the franchise properly and they blew it.
Give it time... it obviously won't stay that way.
Well, he would hardly say the opposite while it's being probed by regulators.
That being said, acquisitions are a normal, and regular occurrence in this industry and have been for decades, and the industry still feels competitive today for the most part.
Isn't that true for everyone though?
Sony have been buying up mobile studios and have already stated their intention to expand in the mobile & live service games spaces. They also have a game subscription & streaming service which they've recently put at the forefront.
Nintendo, less so than the other two, but they have also been expanding into mobile, and we are seeing more and more streaming games on Switch. They also have a subscription...
A Honda would need a lot more than just a PS5 to compete with a Tesla lol. Complete different class of vehicle and luxury level.
