@S2 I hope you keep that same energy when Sony buys Square and/or Capcom 😉
I don’t see MS making COD exclusive though, they want the $$$ from PS.
Terrible idea. You aren’t really forced to interact with CODs fanbase if you aren’t playing COD.
And it would be a financial blow to Sony if COD went exclusive - that is revenue that feeds back into the PS platform and studios etc.
Meanwhile, I’m just sitting here waiting on another Typing of the Dead game!
Interesting take for sure. It matches the Switch in form factor for sure, but yes, it’s more of a replacement/alternative to Xbox and PlayStation when you look at the software available.
Not that dumb though. The reality is, the overwhelming majority (high 90s in percents) of PS owners don’t care about VR.
So for most, it is a viable replacement/alternative to PS5. Especially now that more and more PS games are showing up on Steam.
@CR I don’t see it blanket applying to everything. It’s probably just going to be COD.
I doubt regulators even know what Crash, Spyro etc are. They only seem to care about COD.
And I expect MS to be fine with that - pulling COD from PS would be insane.
They will want to keep that COD revenue pouring in, rather than immediately hamstringing it.
It sure will be interesting to see the reviews of this game when it comes out. Recreating a legendary game like SH2 is a big ask - let’s see if Bloober are up to it.
Easily their biggest project so far, and in a completely different league from anything they’ve done before.
Once that happens they can actually start talking about remedial action / concessions properly. Formal concessions incoming.
Hopefully they can seal the deal with everyone in a timely manner / within this calendar year.
They were never going to get this through without concessions - but similarly, they’re likely fine with that.
They were never going to remove COD from PS, and they want Activision revenue, regardless of concessions.
@Baba That’s not the sentiment I’ve seen from most.
For me, the demo just cemented my decision not to buy it (I was on the fence after the trailers).
Same. For the same reason I will be picking up Hogwarts too.
Many people work on these games/shows, don’t punish them all for one person.
I’d be very surprised if it isn’t at least announced for PS at the 6 or 12 month mark.
I played through it, enjoyed it quite a bit. The comedy is fun and it’s probably the only game where I find myself actually enjoying talking to the NPCs or hearing ambient chatter.
It pokes fun at a lot of common game design traits too which is funny.
Definitely recommend checking it out.
“ PS exclusives always have huge fan bases behind them”
Not always though. See Godfall and Desturction All-Stars.
This game definitely seems to land in the Godfall category and they’ve left a lot of PS gamers uninterested after the trailers and demo.
I do think Square have done some very good business here by getting Sony to pay for 2 years of a game that seems like it’ll fizzle out in 2 weeks.
So I just can’t see thi...
That would be an even worse idea than paying $3bn for Bungie. Ubisoft games are pretty lackluster nowadays and basically just all follow the same stale formula.
Probably, S&Box is pretty awesome too. Hoping for a final release in 2023.
@Surgical Now you're just talking rubbish.
Just so I understand, Sony who frequently sell their consoles at a loss so more can buy them, and are selling them right now at an 'affordable' price point of $500 - do not intend on their devices being mass market. Nobody tell Surgical that they sold over 100m PS4s in 6 years.
"The cost of gaming is going to eventually outpace the average gamers, the sooner we accept that the better we'll be...
The difference is, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, etc, are trying to be very high end premium products which only the very rich can afford.
PS, Xbox and Switch are obviously not very high end premium products, and the intent of their parent companies is to be as mass market as possible.
It's cute that you think they're in the same class as a Ferrari, but they aren't. And their creators don't want them to be.
@darkrider Pretty much everything you just wrote about the S is incorrect and comes from the school of "bigger numbers must be better, right?"
1. Bandwidth being worse is to be expected. You do not need 560GB/s bandwidth if you're serving up 1080p-1440p frames at a lower visual fidelity and/or at a slower rate than XSX
2. 224gb/s is fine for a 1440p box
3. Yes 10GB of ram would be nicer, but 8GB is workable, as we've seen time and time ag...
@Surgical "Why not give up the hobby if you aren't willing to afford the cost of maintenance"
Right, so why don't Sony and MS just start selling games for $500? It's just the cost of maintenance, don't worry about it! /s
Only a fool likes to pay more than they have to. If I had 100bn in the bank, I'd still want to pay as little as possible for things. Oh and, for the record, I'm thinking of myself and the other tens of mi...
Yep - I’ve always said the same. I support Sony releasing their games on PC because as you said, the hit to console sales will be minimal, and more $$$ = bigger and better games for us.
Could someone realistically buy a SD instead of a PS5? Yeah, and it’d let you play Sony games on the go. But most console gamers like the simplicity, convenience and comfort of a console, couch and a big TV.
