“Obviously, for sales results like this”

Do you know the results though? How many did it sell?

And yes, they should stop remaking games that quickly. TLOU1 had 3 full price releases in under a decade - and leaks suggest they’re now going to remaster HZD…

That’s one misleading/clickbaity headline alright. So what’re the actual numbers?

238% wasn’t even enough to take it into the top 10, and the PS4 version saw a whopping 322%, and presumably it’s sales were very low prior to the TV series.

Also, this is only boxed games and we know the UK is overwhelmingly digital.

ER is the GOAT. Totally dominated in 2022.

I'd much rather MS, Nintendo and Sony all invest in traditional games instead.

Just look at PS5 in 2023, we're getting a very small handful of traditional Sony games this year because instead they've invested in appeasing ~4% of PS customers.

"If Sony felt that PSVR didn’t meet or even exceed their expectations why would they move to release PSVR2?"

Even Kinect had two iterations. Means nothing.

"Sony is notorious for abandoning what they feel is a failure"

I wouldn't say they are any more or less notorious than Microsoft and Nintendo. Google are the ones who are really notorious for killing things.

"So Orchard you wouldn't consider VR a success unless it has a high attach rate to a parent device?"

Correct. a 4% attach rate, for a gaming accessory on a parent device that is dedicated to gaming is unsuccessful. Kinect had a higher attach rate than that, and it was considered a failure too.

"Porsche doesn't consider themselves a failure because Toyota sell 100 times more cars."

Not comparable at all. Porsc...

While I agree that his words will do very little to console those who lost their jobs at Xbox Studios - you are being misleading on the 10k part, the majority of the layoffs are outside of Xbox - Xbox Game Studios don't even have 10k employees.

@Christopher Agree. Let them run free. Otherwise, call it a day for 343, and hand the IP over to ID and/or one of the Activision FPS studios.

@jznrpg Do they though? Reach was the weakest Halo game under their watch, and D1 & D2 weren't great either. The Bungie of today isn't even close to the Bungie of Halo 1-3.

And they certainly don't need Bungie if it costs 3.6bn lol.

I wish I got paid to comment on here by anyone - make it happen lol.

Also, surprised you're a fan of the metaverse... most aren't, especially gamers.

You would hope that a FO NV 2 is in development - it should've been greenlit the minute Obsidian and Bethesda were under one roof.

If not, then it's almost a copy paste of the Ubisoft situation where they are leaving obvious cash on the table.

No one has gotten it right yet, if by right you mean made it popular. The attach rate for PSVR is too low to call it that.

Quest is a little harder to judge since it's not attached to any device we can reasonably measure like PSVR is.

But until a good amount of gamers care, and/or it's considered mainstream, I would say VR hasn't landed.

As for MS, at the time it seemed like a risky bet, but in hindsight, they made the righ...

So where is the VR and metaverse success story? Quest 2?

Facebooks metaverse is dead too.

1232d ago 6 agree39 disagreeView comment

Yep lol, also the thing was like $5000. I wouldn’t pay $500 nevermind $5000 to play Minecraft in VR/AR.

“This isn't 3D TV or Wii waggle or your daddy's Kinect.”

That awkward moment when the failed products you’re using to defend another product had far higher attach rate and sales than the one you’re trying to defend 👀💀

It’s only new if you don’t read articles beyond the headline.

“These layoffs included gaming studios such as 343 Industries, The Coalition, ZeniMax Media, and Bethesda Game Studios.”

“So all the triple AAA studios lost people”

We don’t actually know that...

Touché. Fair point.

They’re also going to inherit a lot of heavily experienced FPS studios with Activision Blizzard so maybe let some of them have a bash at the MP too.

@arkard I agree, but he wrote:

“Buying them would bring nothing new”

Buying Bungie brought nothing new either - unless we’re talking about future games, in which case, both Activision and Bungie will obviously make new games in the future, therefore both acquisitions “bring something new”.

I certainly don’t celebrate the economy we’re in or people losing their jobs etc - but if the metaverse dies with this economy, all clouds have a silver lining indeed.
