@Nyxus Context matters. My comment was in reference to the fact that it only managed about half of what Saints Row did - a game that flopped massively.
This needs a spoiler warning really. Wow.
They’ve basically ruined the existing ending for any one who didn’t play the original, and ruined the alternative ending for everyone.
I have no problems with Sony making TV shows or movies from their games - I expect them to. They’re a huge player in the movies space - they would be leaving money on the table if they didn’t.
But none of that means they need to release the same game 3 times in under a decade at full price. Meanwhile, we still don’t have TLOU2 MP that was promised years ago, and no new title announcements either.
TLOU played and looked fine on PS5 before the recent remast...
@iron Posted my PS4 and 5 on here many times. Happy to do so again anytime :)
I’m just not blindly attached to a plastic box is all.
Locations to me mean nothing, not a huge HP fan and haven’t even seen all the movies.
But this game looks like it will be an awesome RPG. I’m really interested to see if it lives up the the immense hype that has built up around it.
“22 was a bad year for VR, never claimed otherwise.”
Okay… so go do the same exercise for every year since PSVR released.
The biggest and best games are never VR games. If you think otherwise, you’re living in a fantasy land.
GTA5, Fortnite, Apex, COD, SM, HZD, HFW, GoW, Elden Ring - all non VR games. And I can keep going if you want.
“ This is just something you're making up though isn't it”
I’m not sure id call being 20th a “success” lol.
Heck, I’m a PS gamer and I don’t consider that a success. GOW is a success - it’s in 3rd and is staying in the charts.
But I’m actually kinda glad it isn’t doing that great - Sony should focus on new experiences. We don’t need more remakes of recent games.
Two of the three games you listed aren’t even new… REV is 2 years old, NMS is going on 7 years old.
The fact remains, the biggest and best games of every generation continue to skip on VR.
Look through any of the GOTY awards, or best games of 2022 articles, or metacritic - none of the best games support VR.
“The reason RE7 was the best game of the last generation was precisely because it was a big game with VR support.”
Simple:
- more games announced (2023 looks dry so far)
- refreshed OS
- reworked PS+ subscription to provide better value
- revive some old franchises (SF, SOCOM, KZ etc)
You just highlighted the problem perfectly.
You listed a tiny handful of games. Barely any developers even care enough about the VR market to make hybrid games, nevermind full VR games. Heck Sony themselves barely put any resources on VR.
The biggest and best games of the last generation, none of them are VR - hybrid or otherwise.
A trend which is set to continue this generation.
If they do want to increase HZD sales alongside a tv series - just advertise it during the commercial break etc.
It looks as good as a current gen game, runs on PS5 and even has a free PS5 upgrade.
Definitely doesn’t need a remake. Heck, go remake Syphon Filter instead… or the Getaway.
Someone stopped at the headline and didn’t read the article again. It’s in 20th…
“ Tlou is a major success when looking at about 2% of the market”
Fixed that for ya.
Also I don’t have a brand, I’m not fortunate enough to own a corporation.
Yeah I definitely think it’ll be another “weak” console.
And you make a good point on back compat - people expect it nowadays so they can’t really go too crazy, whatever they release has to be similar input mechanisms etc to the Switch.
Starfield has been hyped like crazy for about 5 years now - the question is, will it live up to it?
Still skeptical Zelda will release this year but I’ll happily be proved wrong on that one.
Not seeing much noise about FF16 or SM2 yet - but I suspect we will for SM2 once they show off more. And that game will not be delayed, guaranteed arrival - Insomniac execute things down to a tee.
I suspect it to be very similar, I don’t think they’ll do anything crazy risky this time around.
But let’s be honest, we aren’t seeing a new Nintendo generation for a while - the thing is still selling like crazy and vastly outperforming the PS5 and Xbox Series. We won’t see something new until sales drop off.
The problem isn’t really the diversity of the launch lineup though.
The reason VR isn’t performing well amongst gamers is the format/medium change. No diverse lineup will fix that and it’s a far bigger obstacle to overcome.
The price will be a sticking point for a lot of folk too given the current economy.
But it’s a vicious cycle… if it isn’t mainstream/performing well enough, it won’t have enough users to attract large developers maki...
Nope.
If anything, it feels really bare now when you play on a platform without achievements (Switch) or with less focus on achievements (Steam).
I’d say it’s the most anticipated cross platform / third party game.
Zelda and Starfield are the most anticipated exclusives.
Heck, I’m not even really into Harry Potter and I think this looks great and will be a day 1 for me.
100% agree. MS and Sony are doubling down on services.
Nintendo less so, but they're barely got an online ecosystem to begin with.
