They sure waited a while to leave though, going on 5 years after they got acquired. Perhaps they just wanted to do something new? They've been at Playground for 13-14 years.
And if it's a troubled environment, it's a troubled environment that most companies would love to have - let's not forget that FH5 was the top rated exclusive of 2021, beating out games like SM3D World, Returnal, Ratchet
"You like to use made up percentages don't you? Stop pulling numbers out the air man"
It's right there in the article, 89.5% of UK game sales are digital.
If you want to be pedantic, it's 10.5% and not 10%, but I rounded for simplicity.
And like you rightfully pointed out, it's actually 10.5% of the 5th placed market, so far less than 10.5% if you're looking at the global market.
Which game sold the most when looking at ~10% of the market is not really useful information.
Yep, the reality of the situation is, physical is on it's way out.
And this is why those 'UK Boxed Charts' articles are basically meaningless.
Sounds like we agree then - they had a banger 2022, and a dry 2023 planned thus far.
I think it'll be great, one of the best games of the year. Hopefully they go onto CV next.
Seems like a fair analysis. Sony first party had a banger 2022, but 2023 is pretty empty. And he is spot on about subscriptions, PS+ is just miles off of GP and doesn't have the same incentive/appeal to gamers.
HL2 looks pretty awesome here. I'd replay HL2 with Remix.
I'd say based on what we know right now, Xbox has a better 2023 lined up. But there's a few notes I'd put next to that:
1. MS can't afford to delay any of these games listed into 2024
2. Sony will have some surprises. I don't expect anything in H1 that we don't know about, but I would expect at least one unannounced game for H2
3. I don't think there's any chance of SM being delayed to 2024 - I disagree with the author on th...
Because VR won't really tip the scales in either direction. Too little interest in VR for that, nowhere near that of mainstream games like SM, Forza, Starfield, FF etc.
Yeah... people need to stop throwing Forspoken around as if it's going to be GOTY. It's 2 weeks out and no one cares after the lackluster trailers + lackluster demo.
We're not, it's mentioned multiple times in the article - but if that's the only first party Sony game for the entire year, this will be a very weak year.
Do you normally declare a game an insta-buy based on a 6 second video that shows nothing and looks as rigid as a PS3 game?
No excuse for it to not be on PS4/5 though.
Disagree. PS5 has lots of games.
Just because they’re on PS4 too doesn’t mean they aren’t PS5 games.
We were totally spoiled for gaming at that time, getting to binge 1-4 was awesome.
@Flawless Well, we can say it’s back in the sense that we’ll be able to walk into a store and buy a product that has “Silent Hill” on the box but whether it’s truly back remains to be seen.
@Porkchop Yeah I really don’t know who would make it at this point. I would’ve guessed Bluepoint before Sony bought them but now I don’t see Konami making an MGS game and paying Sony to do so. More likely they’d want Sony to pay them.
If I could have my cake and eat it...
I hope you’re right but I don’t have much faith in Konami anymore.
SH is a good example. Years of silence, and then they started beating their drum and what did we get? A classic redone by a bad/undeserving studio.
@purple I thought we were meant to be pretending Bloober were a good dev team now that they’re making SH :p
No need for doom and gloom. It's likely not 'very bad news'.
How hands on do you think leadership actually are in a game studio? They barely have any input on the game at all. If anything, senior level designers etc. are more critical.
