I thought they were only removing these from game pass - are you telling me these games are being completely removed from the store?
@883 Not a fair comparison to compare effective speeds vs raw hardware speeds. If you want to though, then the VRAM in PS5 and DDR4 in a desktop PC trump the SSD throughput even more...
Also even at 17Gb/sec you are still a couple of hundred of GB/sec short of the vram in the PS5 :)
Anyone thinking you’re going to see games use the SSD as RAM is living in a fantasy land.
“It's like 100 GB of extra DDR memory. It's fast enough that you don't have to stream textures into system memory. ”
This is complete BS.
PS5 memory = 448GB/sec
PS5 SSD = 5.5GB/sec
DDR2 memory (from 2003...) = 6.4GB/sec
DDR4 memory (latest) = 25.6GB/sec
So yes, you have 100Gb of extra DDR memory which performs like that of the system RAM in an early 2000’s PC.
The ssd speed isn’t...
They are indeed putting themselves in a good position with regards to esports - but realistically how many of us care? And how many consoles will it sell? Probably not many.
“ Who cares what you think? Obviously people who play competitive games do want these things especially when they offer cash, prizes and exposure.”
And who cares what you think?
The reality is this partnership applies to very, very few PS gamers. With over 100m PS4’...
I'd rather rent an annual sports franchise than pay $70...
A PS GamePass would be killer with Sony's lineup, even if brand new 1st party games take some time to appear in it. Especially if they get back compat working and throw in old PS1/2/3 games as filler content. There's some REALLY good content in Sony's back catalog.
Surely a game being on gamepass makes it even more likely it'll sell more on PS than Xbox? Most people are going to pick up games available on gamepass via gamepass rather than pay $70 - especially for an annual sports franchise...
@neutralgamer1992 Totally. The RE2/3 remake look immense on the last gen consoles, and 7 + Village look great too.
Two major problems with that theory:
1. This NBA deal has likely been in the works for a LONG time, probably before The Show even struck a deal to come into GP.
2. MS likely paid Sony nothing for a Game Pass deal, because getting games on Game Pass, PSNow, PS+/Games With Gold etc. involves striking a deal with the publisher, not the developer (unless they are the same company). And the publisher for MLB on Xbox is not Sony.
Aside from t...
Huh? What's this got to do with Gamepass?
@Silly gameAr
So why are they not supporting it today? and haven't done so properly in almost 15 years... That just makes it even worse if they were first to do it...
Sure beats not playing at all though.
And all of those consoles will die eventually. Additionally, I can't play my PS2 games on my PS3.
Really, the solution here is for Sony to give us the ability to play our PS1/2/3 disks - and make new digital purchases - on PS5.
PS1, 2 and 3 have been emulated on PC. If a bunch of random engineers on the internet can do it - why can't Sony?
I am. I like playing old games, RE, SH, Metal Gear series etc. It's a shame that these games are effectively being killed off - unless someone wants to emulate them.
New games are great, but so are old classics.
Indeed PS makes a lot more money than Xbox and sells a lot more consoles - but that's not how business works or how corporations work. They don't think like fanboys. They only care about market cap / the stock price.
PS/Xbox do not have a stock price. Sony and Microsoft do. And Microsoft is doing far better than Sony on that front.
So my statement stands true, Sony would switch with Microsoft's position if they could.
Shocker... hopefully we get some respite from loot boxes at some point...
"somehow they've made 10tf = 12tf with alot less cores"
We should wait until the generation is out of it's infancy before making such claims. Everyone knows 12TF compute will outstrip 10TF, the question is will devs make use of it - especially 3rd party devs.
As for can the PS5 do ML - you can in theory run ML on any device, just a machine with dedicated cores will be able to do it faster/on a larger scale. This usage case isn't real...
I'm pretty sure MS are fine with Xbox just posting its biggest quarter and being highly profitable. MS is currently sitting at 1.83tn vs Sony at 0.134tn, so as long as Xbox is profitable, they are good.
Let's not pretend Sony wouldn't switch positions with MS at the drop of a hat if they could lol.
True, but Xbox is the only console to play on going forward - without doing some form of jailbreak/modchip.
Obviously excluding anyone who still has a PSP, PS1/2, or was lucky enough to have a rare launch PS3 with back compat - but obviously those consoles will slowly die over time too.
It's just sad that Sony has let it come to this - so many good games sitting in their back catalog.
PS website taking unjust jabs at Sony? Seems unlikely.
Maybe they're just concerned like a lot of gamers are. We're about to lose a legacy of great games from Sony's back catalog and Sony don't seem to care.
@RosweeSon Yep it’s super rough being an Xbox owner with this lack of new games. I guess we’ll just have to make do with Zenimax games like ES6 & Starfield, The Show, Outriders etc. What a shame.
