I enjoyed the controller in Astro as a tech demo / first thing run on the console after unboxing, but I really only enjoy the controller as a tech demo. It’s something I show my friends / family when they visit because it’s cool / new tech.
In actual normal gameplay I sort of stop paying attention to it really, so I don’t really see a benefit over using a DS4 controller - on the haptics front at least, the DualSense is a lot more comfortable to hold.
“One of the biggest advantages of consoles vs PC is that there is only one version of the game.”
That hasn’t been true for a long time. PS4 Pro and XB1X exist.
Graphics scale easily as does memory use related to graphics, CPU tasks do not. Fortunately the CPU in S is close to the X and powerful (more powerful than the PS5 CPU actually...)
Like DJStotty said, programmers aren’t hitting bare metal, they’re going through API’s like DX12 wh...
This game looks awesome, the inventory/upgrade system gives me pleasant throwbacks to RE4.
Awesome! This came out of nowhere!
Well this is disappointing. I still play R6V2 with a group of friends regularly.
I guess a virtual LAN like hamachi and “LAN” game modes will still work though.
@VenomCarnage89 So Sony are actually doing us a favor? They disabled the port so we don’t have to spend our money!
Personally I would like to have the option, I hate playing the storage game of trying to move things around or uninstall things constantly and would happily have paid for a 1TB drive.
The idea that we shouldn’t have access to expandable storage because you / a small handful don’t want to buy anything less than 4TB is silly. And if you’re wait...
@badz There have been WD black NVMe’s with 7000mbps read/write since November, starting at $99 for 500gb. This idea that the PS5 is so fast that it needs drives that don’t yet exist is a fallacy.
If the drives exist, and have such a low entry price, the only reason to not enable the slot at launch, or now, is because Sony isn’t ready and doesn’t consider it enough of a priority to have it ready within 6 months of launch (when it really should’ve been available day 1).
@VenomCarnage89 WD has been selling PCIE 4 drives which exceed the speed of the SSD inside the PS5 by 2000mbps since November - starting at $99 for 500gb, 199 for 1TB.
Two years is more than enough time to judge someone in a job.
Compare him to what other SIE leaders did in their first two years. He’s more Don Mattrick than House, unfortunately.
My apologies surferz - I forgot we aren’t allowed to criticize Sony or Jim Ryan ever and must pretend everything they do is awesome even when it isn’t. It’s great that he’s shutting off our PS3 and vita stores and killing off games like DG so we can re-buy TLOU for a third time.
Also two plus years in a job clearly isn’t enough time to judge someone, he’s just getting started!
My bad /s
There were drives that met or exceeded the requirements since before the PS5 launch (e.g. WD Black and Sabrent Rocket).
The idea that PS5 has a SSD not found anywhere else in the world is just good marketing on Sony’s part.
Glad to get cold storage at last (should’ve been a day 1 feature). But why the hell is expandable storage taking so long? It should’ve also been a day 1 feature.
@surferz Barely a year? It’s been over two years.
No - I deduced this from him being CEO for over two years - and his actions taken during that time.
Might wanna get your facts straight before trying to post smart ass comments :)
“ There is nothing to support. The old consoles will be able to connect to it, that is it. Nothing special has to be done for this to happen. It already happens. No extra work is required.
People really are trying to fear monger while not having a clue”
Clearly it is you who has no clue - anyone who’s built and kind of software or service knows there is maintenance involved and that the methods that service uses will not be the industry standard in 5, 10...
So your logic @travestyj, it raises the question - why can’t they do the same with the stores? Why are stores being shut down? It’s just a web service like every other part of PSN.
And how can you guarantee it for me? Do you work high up at Sony?
Heck, even Microsoft has shut down parts of Xbox Live before - and let’s be honest, MS handles services all-up and general support for older platforms a lot better than Sony.
@travestyj That literally makes no sense. So you’re telling me that in 10 years time either:
1. Sony are still going to be using the exact same services stack / software as they use today. Obviously this isn’t true since technology like services and software move very fast.
Or
2. They’re going to go back and update PS3, 4, 5 etc for all future versions of PSN. They won’t even support back compat - why would they do this?
You can buy a new PC at any time - and your emulated games will still work if they work today.
Buying a new PS3/4 will just get more and more difficult over time, and there’s a risk that the digital purchases or patches etc become inaccessible (as is happening to PS3 right now...)
“ As long as Playstation exists PSN will exist”
That’s likely not true though. Services go through iterations and the odds of Sony going back to update PS3/4 to keep supporting say a PS6 version of PSN seems unlikely. Kinda like how MS shut down the original Xbox Live.
Also a lot of games require patches or don’t even have the necessary game data on the disk.
Based on how Sony/Jim Ryan are behaving lately, nothing would surprise me.
Excited for Village, but going to skip on the demos and wait for the full thing.
Not so excited for RE4 VR, mercenaries or REVerse... would have rather had a RE:CV remake.
