Doesn’t that statement apply to every console/new piece of hardware launched during COVID?
“X is doing fantastic despite not being available everywhere.”
Replace X with PS5, XSX, Switch, GeForce 3000 or Ryzen 5000 and the sentence still works.
Crazy that one guy can build this with the mod tools. Sad that it isn’t from Valve themselves/they didn’t provide a non-VR mode, or that there’s no HL3/full HL game.
I’ll definitely try this out though - love HL, don’t love VR.
Sounds like they’re still stuck in the last decade. Who cares about metacritic in 2021?
Especially as a metric to kill new IP. Lots of IP that got 70-80 ended up becoming great IP’s in the future.
Isn’t Series S/X a much better emulator device? Especially considering it can run PS2 games, and an S is only $299, and functions as a next gen console too.
To be fair, the first demo they showed was running at like 10fps...
@Flewid368 Each company will be hit different with regards to supply chain - but all those companies are reporting record revenue... higher than any quarter or FY prior... during a pandemic.
@mkis007 “ You tried to explain incorrectly that they should sell more during a massive supply shortage”
Please explain how they can simultaneously outsell the PS4 at launch and have less units available due to a shortage... doesn’t make sense. Sony themselves have said that had more consoles available during this launch compared to last.
Everyone knows demand for at-home entertainment has risen during COVID, that’s why pretty much every major games compa...
Well, I listed TV brands above which are common/mainstream brands and have been shipping VRR panels for years. Your inability to provide anything to the contrary or address any of my questions is somewhat disappointing.
"Done here" I guess that means you couldn't provide any counter points, but thanks for playing / attempting to play. You get a 6/10 for effort.
Reading comprehension must be difficult for you. There is a direct answer to your question there:
"While not all new TV's have it, a lot do. Samsung & LG have been offering VRR on mainstream panels for years. My Samsung TV from 2018 has VRR, heck even TCL is offering VRR panels since around 2019. "
So why the hate on VRR?
Pretending? Not sure why you're so hurt over VRR. It's a pretty useful feature, especially on 120hz target games / games that can't hold framerate.
While not all new TV's have it, a lot do. Samsung & LG have been offering VRR on mainstream panels for years. My Samsung TV from 2018 has VRR, heck even TCL is offering VRR panels since around 2019.
So, which brand of TV are you referring to? and in what way is VRR not a huge advantage in g...
If you want to be pedantic, sure I will reword it:
Huge advantage for those who bought a new TV in the last 2-3 years. Only a temporary advantage anyway - PS5 will get VRR at some point.
@mkis007 Which L? I don't work for any of the companies listed in the NPD, so nothing to lose?
@kayoss Sure it caused a chip shortage, but it also drove demand for at-home entertainment through the roof. Supply is getting a bit better now, regionally at least, my local Target has PS5 disk and digital in stock for walk-in purchases (still 1 per 'household' though).
@SullysCigar Hard to compare Stadia to consoles. Demand for the new consoles & Switch is way higher than it is for Stadia generally, likely due to it being a full streaming service / streaming o...
You mean the pandemic where everyone is stuck at home for over a year... playing video games and binging TV shows? Shocker :P
“ Personally, I actually expect ray tracing to work better on PS5 than Series X; the SSD is faster which is likely to help reduce 4K pop-in and allow for only rendering what is in view.”
This doesn’t make sense - SSD speeds basically have no impact on ray tracing capabilities & in order to ray trace you need to be processing what isn’t in view/everything in the scene... what is not in view can still show up in a reflection on an object which is in view.
45fps whether capped or average is gonna be pretty jarring for a first person game with combat. They should’ve just capped it at 30fps or dropped the res and hit 60.
This gives a huge advantage to XSX for the ray traced version too, since Xbox has VRR.
Shrug, PS5 is my only next-gen console, and PS4 was my main device for last gen, with my PC getting the 2nd most use (for RTS & FPS games). Do I have negative sentiment towards some of the things Sony have going on right now? Sure - but constructive criticism is healthy.
The controller for me was just something that, at first I was very impressed/excited with, but over time it kinda became 'normal' and I stopped paying attention to it. Perhaps a unique use case ...
Yep, I'd bet a lot that we'll see RE8 on PSVR2, the relationship between Capcom & Sony seems very strong, and Capcom's VR experiences are top class, so I'd be very surprised if Sony aren't hitting them up to be a launch showcase for PSVR2.
That announce was kinda weird... a bunch of PS execs thanking them for their work on PSVR for RE7 and then bam, a VR game for Oculus...
At least it's in a new form factor... RE4 is on just about every platform at this point and I wonder who doesn't own at least one copy...
@XbladeTeddy The HL series is enjoyed by a lot of gamers, why lock part of the story exclusively to such a small % of gamers?
