@RazzerRedux Yes they did, late gen PS3 games for the most part, looks great compared to 360 equivalents. Lots of great looking exclusives towards the end too which showed off things the 360 couldn't even dream of rendering.

"but the comparison of XSX to Cell is way off"

Not really. The extreme parallelization & non-unified memory pool made the PS3 hard to work with. XSX also has extreme parallelization (on the GPU side), and has two eff...

@inexpensivelion

So they're going to ruin it yet people are simultaneously port begging for them to keep the games on other platforms... right.

Must be Schrödinger's game company acquisition - they're simultaneously going to ruin it, and make games that people beg for ports of.

You are correct on that - higher clocks will make it easier to get stable framerates in the short term/early in the gen, but having higher parallelism / CU count will pay off long term for performance & visuals, just like it did with PS3. Mid-late PS3 games destroyed 360 games.

XSX is somewhat similar to PS3/CELL in that respect (albeit less complex and cheaper to manufacture) - it's going to take more work/effort to learn how to optimize for it and get the most out...

@RazzerRedux You should go back and correct your post then, because you also quote the same sentiment:

"Basically identical"

"PlayStation 5 and Series X render proceedings at native 2160p resolution and barring some very minor differences (a slight difference in select filtering? An odd water rendering bug in one scene on Series X?) they are basically identical."

Minor framerate differences isn't huge by DF stan...

It depends for me. I too have a bunch of Steam games I've never even booted up (probably 80% of my total games...), that seems to be a common pitfall of Steam (and Steam sales).

On Game Pass, I play a lot of games I wouldn't otherwise buy / risk spending money on. I certainly try to avoid buying annual sports games like MLB, Madden, FIFA etc.

Exactly. Pretty much all the same, and you can refer to my earlier statement:

"it's not exactly the most riveting DF analysis they've done"

1871d ago 0 agree10 disagreeView comment

Well the rest of the article is basically 'everything is the same', it's not exactly the most riveting DF analysis they've done. SD Studio did a good job on consistent performance across so many platforms - especially since over half of them were first time platforms/new hardware for them.

And clearly it is an interesting topic, we've never been in this situation before - and probably won't be again for a while.

Awesome! And well deserved - their games have been great fun. We don't get enough good coop games anymore.

Given they're basically identical, the most interesting part of the article is actually:

"It's a fascinating, if not overly exciting face-off when it comes to the game code, but the battle of the console business models is where the sparks really fly. I'm not a baseball fan so can't really comment on the quality of the simulation but it's a no-brainer that Game Pass will see the title more widely played - if you've got the sub, you have nothing ...

@ApocalypseShadow Ignoring your immature comments about being a kid since I am not, nor do I resort to trying to insult during a discussion. I don't expect anything to go 'viral' overnight. But I do expect a device to sell more when its platform has 115m+ units out there. Kinect even outsold PSVR in numbers, with less Xbox 360's being in the wild than PS4's. And Kinect was a failure.

"You claim it's more popular on PC. But PSVR has outsold every...

@RauLeCloset Huh, What has VR got to do with Game Pass?

Anyway, I'll answer your off-topic question: Everyone knows MS has almost no market share on PC, Everyone is gaming on Steam, and now Epic to a lesser extent. The adoption rate on console is undeniably very good though, higher than PSVR if you want to compare apples to oranges, but especially when compared to similar subscription services both in and outside of the gaming space.

Quite clearly Gam...

@ApocalypseShadow my 3% estimation was based on the current adoption of PSVR. Which as you said, the follow up headset isn't on sale yet, so that is a fair metric.

There's also a similar adoption rate on Steam, so it's not like this number is wildly off both past sales of PSVR and sales of competing products in the space (albeit on a more popular VR platform).

I mainly game on PS, shrug, I didn't realize not liking VR / thinking VR is the ...

"Trust me. I'm going to laugh at the naysayers after all gets revealed."

So how many PS5 owners do you think will pick up a PSVR2? 50%? 60%?

Lower resolution, no analog sticks etc. is not what stopped me, or anyone I've spoken to, from buying a VR device. It was the format/method of playing.

"Spoken from someone that has no clue about VR. The idea is to grow the base beyond the gamers who are already onboard the VR train."

Spoken like a true business expert. The idea/business plan for a business/product is to grow its base beyond those who already own the device. Shocker.

The reason PSVR didn't sell through well is nothing to do with SSD's or teraflops... from what I've seen, the game...

@inexpensivelion Except Sony aren't the only company doing VR... heck, I'm a huge HL fan, and would love to play more content, but still don't feel the need to buy a headset to play Alyx.

@Christopher It's good that Quest 2 has sold well but there's a few open questions there:

1. How many units? They just say it sold more than the past models combined, but we don't actually have numbers to work out if that's 10 mil or 100 mil.

2. How many of those purchases are mainstream gamers? It could be companies or people buying for other VR formats.

I'd also say VR is more popular on PC than console. I don'...
