Well you sort of have to tell me what you want as proof lol.

Sent you a PM asking.

So PM me and I’ll send you the proof you want. Easy enough to prove.

@darklion What are “Xbox people”? People made of Xboxes? Interesting.

No one cares? Apparently you do ;)

@RauLeCreuset And my statement is still correct and accurate today. Just because I recognize that corporations are just out to make money, doesn’t mean I support them ripping off gamers or developers/publishers. Those things aren’t mutually exclusive.

As a dev, I’ve worked on crossplay games and never knew we may have been paying Son...

Just because it doesn’t appeal to you doesn’t mean it is irrelevant to everyone.

I might’ve missed these games being boosted if not for this news article.

And also confirmation that it’s still in place in 2021, shocking.

"What if those friends and family want to play starfield with their friends on PlayStation and Switch?"

Bit different. That game was never out on PlayStation, nevermind out on PlayStation but sectioned off from the rest of the platforms which were happily cross-playing together. If Starfield DID come to PS + Switch, and had multiplayer, I would expect MS to allow cross-play like they do with Minecraft etc - and from what we've seen both in the past and today, ...

The irony is they are looking the 'nicest' so far based on their 'review' of TLOU2... despite looking super awkward.

Apple are looking bad for saying things like 'we run the store, we collect the revenue" & the whole case itself
Sony are looking bad for being anti-crossplay & creating fees for devs wanting to cross-play
Epic are looking bad for saying things like "I cant think of a scenario where Epic doesn't get w...

@darklion

"It doesn't hurt PlayStation gamers"

But it does. If PS doesn't crossplay, other platforms will have a bigger matchmaking pool and friends/family members may be blocked from playing with each other.

"I'm fine with this, in fact I applaud Sony for it's savvy business decision."

Then you aren't a gamer. You're choosing to shill for a corporation at the expense of gam...

Nice deflection - please tell me how initially blocking developers from adding cross-play, and later charging them money if they do is good for the players?

1765d ago 1 agree21 disagreeView comment

@darklion All that shows is how egotistical Sony got during the PS4 years.

Pre-PS4 (and especially when the PS3 was struggling): Cross-play is fine & free
PS4 when it was booming: Cross-play needs approval and costs money.

Court statements have revealed that only Sony has a fee associated with cross-play - Nintendo & Microsoft allow developers to do it for free.

It is completely indefensible to charge developers for rev...

It just got confirmed in court that this is still policy, and that Nintendo & Microsoft do NOT charge for cross-play:

"Epic CEO Tim Sweeney just confirmed that Sony is the only platform holder that requires Epic to pay compensation for crossplay. Epic had to agree to pay these additional fees to enable crossplay in Fortnite."

Yes, agreed, this doesn't happen overnight. But Discord is not why 'PlayStation eliminated the community'. It was likely going either way.

Fortunately Discord is coming to fill the gap - and to be honest, is a better service.

This court case is proving to be the biggest info dump/leak we've ever had, and the most reliable source lol.

1765d ago 12 agree1 disagreeView comment

It's nothing to do with that. It's because there is a huge federal court case going on with Epic vs Apple around Fortnite & store revenue shares. A lot of interesting information has already come out about Epic, Sony & Microsoft within the Fortnite years.

Expect a lot more to come out as the case continues.

I doubt MS and Nintendo were against the idea (we know they weren't), but it's clear who the real pressure was coming from - the narrative of 'only MS is pushing cross-play because they need Sony's userbase' has been completely destroyed now - game developers wanted it more than anyone.

"And why would MS and Nintendo be mentioned in those documents?"

MS has already been named in numerous documents that have come out via this ...

1765d ago 5 agree33 disagreeView comment

Yep... but it was probably obvious to anyone with a brain cell that developers wanted this functionality.

1766d ago 5 agree37 disagreeView comment

It's clear from the court documents / emails that Epic (and likely other developers) were desperate for crossplay - because they wanted to maximize their player pool and let people play with friends easily etc (and make more money).

No where in the documents does it mention Microsoft or Nintendo pushing for it. That theory has been well and truly debunked now - documents taken via subpoena and/or given under oath in court are about as good as you're going to get.

The fact that Sony tried to cash in on microtransactions performed outside of Playstation / revenue generated from other platforms is worse than what Apple etc. are doing with taking a 30% cut on their own store...

That's probably not true. When they closed community, Discord were shopping around for a buyer. That would be a pretty big gamble on Sony's part to shut down a service in advance of a partnership being signed - especially when the company is talking to your biggest competitor on a buy out.

Plus, we don't even know what this will look like yet, how deeply integrated it will be and what functionality will actually be available. It also won't be active until 20...
