Steam is not going to be an actual part of PSN, but simply a feature built into Portal 2. I would compare its implementation to the KONAMI ID system used in Metal Gear Solid 4.

The 360 doesn't have the available pixel and vertex fill rate to handle Alan Wake at 720p without a decrease in quality. There will be more noticeable artifacts thanks to the alpha-to-coverage if they drop AA down to 2x.

The Infamous ISO was something like 7.5GB, so making it a downloadable title makes enough sense. I'm not sure how large Little Big Planet actually is, but I seem to recall the disc having roughly 46GB of data on it. A lot of that could have been redundant, so cutting it down to 10GB or so may not be an issue.

It's actually amazing how powerful the PSP is considering it first hit store shelves in 2004.

Tegra is an all in one chip, where as this article is talking strictly about the 3DS' GPU. Tegra 2 has dual ARM Cortex A9s, and a GPU with programmable shaders that meets OpenGL ES 2.0 standards. The 3DS' GPU is said to only support OpenGL ES 1.1, meaning the hardware's feature set is likely not as extensive.

Still, neither chip has truly been available for testing so its difficult to say which will be more powerful.

They're going to have to reduce lighting quality, or release it on the PC then.

The 3DS should be a little more powerful, but it also has the burden of having to render everything in 3D. The 3DS' GPU is also more flexible than the one in the PSP so it should be easier to develop for.

Music has to be ripped from a CD to be transferred to the 360's hard drive, which is a shame. I find the ability to copy files over my wireless network or from USB devices to be much more convenient.

They're either using MLAA or these are bullshots. The anti-aliasing is simply flawless, and if these screenshots are real this will end up being the new graphics king on consoles.

Actually, the PS3's version of the Cell only has 7 working SPEs, 6 of which can be used for games.

To do a correct comparison, wouldn't Rising have to actually be available? All of these screen shots were taken from a teaser trailer.

5854d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

I don't see the issue with Rising looking better than MGS4, as it was actually an unoptimized mess. Constant load screens, numerous installs, and frame rate issues to boot while running at 1024x768.(fewer pixels than true 720p ie 1280x720)

PS3 fans really need to let this one go, as titles like Uncharted 2 have beaten MGS4 graphically in every metric available for comparison. MGS4 flaws are merely a reflection of the developers ability early into the PS3 life-cycle, not t...

....But it came out in 2008.

Articles like this are best to be ignored. I think the reason many console gamers (PS3 fanboys in particular) try to downplay Crysis is that it has better graphics than PS3 exclusives like Uncharted 2.

It's quite silly though, as Crysis being great in no way takes away from phenomenal titles like Uncharted 2(which is in my opinion the better game).

Last I had seen there wasn't a single game on the PC that used FP32, so I'm confused as to why you're dissing FP16 as that is all you'll currently find on the PC as well.

As to the anti-aliasing issue, what does it matter if the game uses conventional MSAA or the newer MLAA techniques? The end results are both great and pretty comparable when it comes to image quality.

Obviously Crysis couldn't be done on consoles, but you're clearly ...

I didn't say that you cannot use a 3DTV with a PC, but that the entry priced 3D monitors are of a much lower quality than a higher end 3DTV.

Samsung advertises a 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio on their 120Hz monitors, when their typical contrast ratio is only 1000:1. Compare this to a Plasma that has a dynamic contrast ratio of 6,000,000:1 and a typical contrast ratio of at least 40,000:1 and the difference is massive.

The response time on Plasmas is a...

I just checked and it's at 183GB, and a 500GB hard drive is really only about 465GB formatted.

I've got 41GB of music, most of my DVD collection ripped taking up about 64GB, 60GB of TV shows, 20GB or so of home movies, 10GB of photos, and then all of my PSN games and game installs.

I have 500GB 7200RPM drive in my PS3 and I only have about 186GB of free space.

While it is true that the price of entry for 3D gaming on the PC is much lower, a 3D ready HDTV in basically all caes will absolutely decimate one of those cheap 3D monitors in image quality. They're almost always cheap TN panels which are only 6-bits per channel, and have appallingly low contrast ratios.

3DTVs are basically better in every known measurement for image quality, and the price reflects that.

It's pretty impressive to see it rendering 691,200 more pixels in every frame without any decrease in performance.
