Great, I don't have AT&T.

By that same argument isn't the Wii beating the Xbox 360 as well as Google TV and Apple TV? The Wii can now use Netflix, and has a web browser.

If Microsoft wasn't so greedy, the DLC would be free on the 360 as well.

They're still occasionally needed, but the prices are so low there really is no reason not to own one.

The resolution listed on the box is just the supported output resolution. Despite the fact that the 360 will automatically upscale every game to whatever output resolution is selected, some games on occasion only list 720p.

Halo 3, Gears of War 2, and Alan Wake for example list 1080p on the back of their boxes when in reality they are rendered at 1152x640, 1280x720, and 960x540. Sometimes the native rendering resolution is the same as the output resolution on PS3 games, but t...

I think this was a test run, as Atom CPUs and motherboards are quite cheap. His future versions could come packed with a i7s and a Radeon 5xxx series or GTX 4xx based GPU.

On the Android Marketplace there are both free and paid apps, although the majority are free ad-supported apps. If Sony had some sort of App system for non-game related programs, the PS3 could be another step closer to replacing PCs for some users. Obviously I'm not saying it would replace computers in general, but the PS3 could handle some basic tasks like word processing, web browsing(with a better browser), instant messenger clients, etc.

It is true that the cell has proven itself very capable of handing post processing effects.

Also, the eDRAM can hold an entire 720p frame, but only with anti-aliasing disabled. Anti-aliasing can still be achieved at 720p by resorting to image tiling. I'm not really sure what texture resolution has to do with it, as the textures aren't stored in the eDRAM anyway.

It's insane that Microsoft charges for online when Steam and PSN have proven to be suitable alternatives for free.

The PS3 actually uses LibGCM and PSGL (OpenGL ES 1.2 + Nvidia CG) Do you understand that it is just a stripped down version of OpenGL? Since OpenGL is open source Sony is free to take it and modify it how they want, but it is still at its core a version of OpenGL.

The fact remains that the RSX is an extremely dated GPU that uses discrete shaders without any sort of GPGPU functionality.

How is this wrong? G71 does not support CUDA, DirectCompute, or OpenCL.

5750d ago 16 agree5 disagreeView comment

So developers have stopped using the RSX completely then? You do realize that the RSX is based on Nvidia's G71 which has absolutely no GPGPU support, right? There is simply no way to use it without taking advantage of a graphics API like DirectX or OpenGL.

If "Crazy fast RAM" is what makes the PS3 so powerful, what excludes the 360's 10MB of eDRAM that peaks at 256GB/s of memory bandwidth from the conversation? You do realize that the PS3's 256MB of XDR has 25.6GB/s of memory bandwidth and the RSX's 256MB of DDR3 has 22.4GB/s, right? The video memory speed is actually the same on both systems, the difference though is that some of the 360's memory bandwidth actually gets saved because the back buffer is rendered in the...

I love when fanboys that know absolutely nothing about hardware try to act like an expert.

Isn't this less of a negative for the PS3 and more of a positive for the Blu-ray format in general?

Why do you say that darkcharizard? The 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 + SGX540 SoC used in the Samsung Galaxy S phones costs less than $15, so it should be pretty easy to beat the 3DS in hardware specs while maintaining a similar price point.

Nintendo could have fit a better CPU / GPU combo in the 3DS while still selling the hardware for a hefty profit.

Is there really something wrong with asking them what they're basing that on? Are they using a lot of FP heavy operations on the SPEs? If they're going to pretend to talk tech, they should have no problem responding to questions like these.

Sure the 360 GPU has support for tessellation, but it's not nearly powerful enough to properly implement it. Even the Radeon 5870, a GPU that is 8x as powerful struggles when using moderate levels of tessellation, so there's no way in hell the now 5 year old Xenos will somehow manage it in any meaningful way.

Fermi is the only GPU currently that can really handle tessellation, and it's 300W chip with over 3 billion transistors, more than 10x Xenos and the RSX.
